Artist Renderings of C7 Corvette

The cover story of the August 2007 issue of Winding Road‘s on-line magazine is "Chevrolet C7 Corvette".  They report that GM’s internal code for the next Vette is GMX711.

Check out the excellent artistic proposals on pages 46-52!  The question has been asked years ago, but could the next Corvette be mid-engine?  Don’t miss this free read at Winding Road!

One Response to Artist Renderings of C7 Corvette

  1. DAN SMITH says:

    CORVETTE C7:
AFTER THIS MACHINE IS RATIONALIZED FOR PRODUCTION, IT STILL SHOULD BE A STUNNINGLY RADICAL DEPARTURE FROM THE PREDICTABLE, SAFE AND BLAND STYLING OF RECENT CORVETTES. IN MY MIND, THIS KIND OF LEAP FORWARD SHOULD BE TAKING PLACE ABOUT EVERY FIVE YEARS. AMERICA’S PREMIER SPORTS CAR SHOULD BE ALL ABOUT SHATTERING BARRIERS AND PERPETUALLY REDEFINING EXPECTATIONS. A TRADITIONAL MID ENGINE DESIGN IS OUT OF THE QUESTION BECAUSE OF COST. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE IS ON THE TABLE; INCLUDING SMALL DISPLACEMENT, HIGH OUTPUT ENGINES. SIMPLY REINVENTING THE CAR EVERY FEW YEARS MAKES SENSE; ON THE SAME CHASIS. PERPETUAL CHANGE IS WHAT’S SOUGHT OUT IN THIS PERFORMANCE CLASS. AND BRAND LOYALTY DOESN’T EVEN QUALIFY AS A VALID ISSUE. THE PHRASE “NEW AND DIFFERENT” IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND ANY PURCHASE. SO IF YOU WANT TO REMAIN A MAJOR PLAYER IN THIS GAME, YOU NEED A NEW SUIT OF CLOTHES AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. BUT THE CHANGES NEED TO BE MORE THAN JUST SKIN DEEP. IF THE C6 DESIGN CONTINUES WITH FEW IF ANY CHANGES, INTEREST IN THE “CORVETTE FRANCHISE” WILL START TO DECLINE. SO MAKE THE C7 A REALITY, AND DO IT SOON. I HOPE MARK REUSS REALLY WANTS TO SEE THIS HAPPEN; ALONG WITH OUR OWN CAPRICE SS AND R8 MALOO. IS THAT ASKING TOO MUCH? WE’LL FIND OUT VERY SOON.
