A huge Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Pep Rally was held Tuesday morning just outside the Wintergarden of the Renaissance Center, by the Detroit River, to celebrate the return of racing, especially American LeMans Series Racing, especially featuring the Corvette C6.R race car, to the city of Detroit.
Representing the Corvette Racing Team drivers were the complete team of Johnny O’Connell, Ron Fellows, Jan Magnussen, Olivier Beretta, Max Papis, and Oliver Gavin (shown signing autographs).
Representing the American LeMans Series was Scott Atherton and representing the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix was Chairman Bud Denko.
Roger Penske was recognized for his extensive contributions to bringing the sport back to Detroit.
Ed Peper, Chevrolet General Manager, and Troy Clarke, GM North America President, spoke highly of the effort, making the point that "Corvette is turning the competition into spectators."
