Snail mail just brought me my winter issue of Corvette Quarterly. And – no surprise – there are several articles for our enjoyment.
One particularly helpful article is on the new Corvette interiors. I have previously blogged about the helpful new information (finally) provided by Chevy on the factory website, but this article goes deeper, with close-up photography showing the contrasting color thread against the leather background, and the presence of two-tone leather on both the dash and on the doors.
In view of the fact that some of Corvette’s competitors have optional $20,000 interiors to offer, it was important for Corvette to provide a more upscale offering.
I’m not big on conspiracy theories, but as I read that the leather source is Draxlmaier, “one of the great leather suppliers, that supplies to Maybach and other luxury cars,” could it be that that supplier was urged to not make these interiors very available, resulting in the difficulty we all had getting 4LT Coupes and Convertibles and 3LZ Z06’s all fall? As you know, by now having changed suppliers, Corvette no longer has issues with providing the two tone leather.
