On the final day (April 3) of Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, the very first (still non-existent) 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition was auctioned off in front of a crowd of more than 50,000.
The winning bid of $270,000 went to Rick Hendrick, owner of one of the largest automotive chains in the U.S. – Hendrick Automotive Group. After tacking on additional auction commission and buyer fees, the final bid rang in at $297,000.
Of the 500 Corvette Z06 Carbons that will ever be produced, Hendrick will take home the very first with a VIN #001.
Hendrick will also get the opportunity to tour the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom AND watch the assembly of his brand new vehicle at the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant later this summer.
For an automotive aficionado like Hendrick, what’s $297K? Pocket change, maybe.
