Chevy Announces New Incentives to Get More Corvettes on the Road!

If you have been waiting for Chevrolet to make it easier for you to purchase or lease a new 2011 or 2012 Corvette, your time has come!  In December, $3000 in Customer Cash was offered on 2011 models, and $1500 in Dealer Cash on 2012 models. 0% Financing for up to 60 months (and 2.9% for 72 months) was offered as an alternative, in place of the Cash on the 2011’s.  In addition, all who qualified for the GM Employee Discount were favored with an additional $2500 off.  And in addition to that, there were a few programs to save you money if you got something in the mail.

For January and February (through Leap Year Day), all of the above is still true, but there’s more! Consider which of these programs can help you get the most off the price of your new Corvette:

GM Owner Loyalty Program – through 2/29/12

If you own or lease a 1999 Model Year or Newer Chevy, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Hummer, or Oldsmobile, you qualify for an additional $1000 off on both 2011 and 2012 Corvettes! This offer is not compatible with other Private Offers, but is compatible with Customer Cash, Bonus Cash, APR, and Lease Programs.  And you do not have to sell or trade that car.

GM Card Top-Off Programs – through 2/29/12

There are numerous programs available, depending on which GM Card you have, and how much in rewards you have already earned. Savings can range from $750-5000. Check on your card earnings when purchasing a Corvette directly with GM.

GM Competitive Lessee Conquest Program – through 2/29/12

$2000 is available to non-GM lessees toward the purchase/lease of a 2011 or 2012 Corvette. Although this program is not compatible with other Private Offer programs, it is compatible with Cash, APR, and Lease programs.

United Services Automobile Association Private Offer – through 1/2/13

$750 is offered to members of USAA on 2011 and 2012 Corvettes.

Have a Jolly Corvette Christmas!

The Corvette you give as a Christmas gift can bring a lot happiness!

But you may be asking, How do you handle the "fitting it under the Christmas tree" problem?  You have choices: Get a bigger house with a bigger tree.  Place a scale model under the tree, while the new drivable beauty sits in the garage under a giant bow.  Give a key in a wrapped box, with the beautiful car outside.  You can think of something!  The important thing is to take advantage of great end-of-year pricing, and get that Corvette now!

The parent Chevrolet dealership of CorvetteBlog, George Matick Chevrolet, has a large selection of Corvette Christmas gifts this year.  You can choose from the ZR1, the Z06, Callaway Coupes and Convertibles, Grand Sport Coupes and Convertibles, and base Coupes and Convertibles.  If we don't have exactly what you want, we will trade for it.

We even have a handful of 2011 models left, with all the extra dealer cash on it.  An example is the gorgeous Crystal Red Metallic 2011 Grand Sport 3LT Coupe pictured here.  It is equipped with 6-Speed Automatic, Dual-Mode Performance Exhaust, Navigation Radio, and Ebony Sport Bucket Seats.

Although the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price on this car is $67,030, you can buy today for just $55,898, plus tax and fees.  Those employed by General Motors, or who qualify for Conquest Cash, will purchase for even less!  Be sure to buy while these incentives are available from the factory.

By the way, would you like the bow on the hood or on top?

If you are interested, please give us a call at 1-313-531-7100, or comment on this blog with your contact information. It will be kept private.

Chevy Recalls Corvettes for Rear Hatch

In a recent Detroit News story, "General Motors Company said Saturday it is recalling 6,006 new Chevrolet Corvette Coupes in North America, that might fail to meet a federal safety standard covering rear hinges. The issue was discovered in early September, and GM halted shipment of the vehicles for three days as it investigated.

"The recall covers 2011 and 2012 models — including 5,755 in the United States and 217 in Canada. GM said the issue could allow the rear hatch to separate from the vehicle in a crash.

"Dealers will replace both rear hatch hinges. GM notified dealers last month of its plan. The issue was discovered in testing for a future European regulation. GM is unaware of any crashes, injuries, or customer complaints related to the issue.

"Most of the models — about 4,000 — are 2011 vehicles. The hatch being replaced is from Milan Metal Systems LLC of Milan.  Letters to customers will be mailed Oct. 14 with instructions on how to have their vehicle repaired."

As an update to the Detroit News story, dealers have not yet received the parts needed for the repairs.

Chevy Announces New Corvette Incentives

Effective today, and running through September 6, significant Dealer Cash flows to dealers, to help buyers purchase the new Corvette they desire.

Dealers receive $3000 on each remaining 2011 Corvette, which they can pass directly on to their customers.  Or, for those who prefer financing rate discounts, rates as low as 1.9% are available for five year loans, and 2.9% for six year notes.

For the first time, incentives are also available on the 2012 Corvettes, which are beginning to trickle in to a handful of showrooms across the nation.  While not as substantial as the 2011 incentives, those who ordered a 2012 should be pleased!  The Dealer Cash is $1500 and the financing options are 3.9% for up to sixty months, and 4.9% on the six year term.

If you are looking to purchase a new 2011 or 2012 Corvette, feel free to give us a call at 888-875-0728, or comment below (where your inquiry will be kept private).

Corvette ZR1 Sets New Record at Nurburgring

Currently, Nissan GT-R has been bragging about their newly improved record time on the Nurburgring: 7 minutes 24.22 seconds.  That is mighty fast, and good for them!  That was even a better time than the 2009 Corvette ZR1 back in 2008.

In this new videoCorvette’s chief engineer, Tadge Juechter, describes various aspects of the 2012 Corvette ZR1, contrasted to that 2009 model tested previously at the Nurburgring. Included are the new sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, which were revealed to us at the National Corvette Museum C5/C6 Bash, at the end of April.  In addtion, new chassis and aero improvements, made over the course of the last four years, have also contributed to sharply improved lap times.

According to the telemetry provided in the video, the driver, Jim Mero, hit a top speed of 183 mph and lateral Gs went as high as 1.8, as he looped the famous course.

The new time of 7:19.63 beats the previous 2009 Corvette ZR1's run of 7:26.4 by over 6 seconds. Not only does the new time put the 2012 Corvette ZR1 ahead of the Nissan, but also Dodge Viper ACR (7:22.1) and Porsche 911 GTS RS (7:24).

Read the press release after the jump.

Corvettes at Canterbury Car Show in Southeastern Michigan

The annual VetteFest, produced on the grounds of Olde World Canterbury Village in Lake Orion, Michigan, arrives in just two days!  Every year, the sponsoring Corvette club, GMC Corvette Set, presents a fine selection of Corvettes for the viewing public in June.

There is no cost to spectators for the show, but all funds raised from registration for competition and other sources go to Leaders Dogs for the Blind.  If you can stop by, you will be treated to a nice selection of Corvettes, a gracious amount of shade, a quaint Olde English Shoppe environment, a variety of food and Corvette equipment vendors, and an opportunity to support a very worthy charity.

We have blogged on this event in the past, and CorvetteBlog will return this year to cover the event again.  See you there!

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition

It has been a full year since Chevrolet announced the sweet Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition.  The photo at the right is one of those released at that time.  The photos show the word "Carbon" writ large on the doors.  The vehicle was created to honor fifty years of Le Mans racing heritage.

Fast forward to April 2011, and dealers are finally being allowed to order this very limited edition model.  In fact, the window for dealers to order is close of business next Tuesday, April 19.

The Inferno Orange Metallic Carbon Edition model our dealership has ordered is due to be built the week of May 9.  Orange stitching will contrast sharply with the Ebony Custom Leather Wrapped Interior.  This car will definitely turn heads!  By the way, Magnetic Selective Ride Control, Navigation Radio, and New England Emissions Certification are all included.  See below for a more complete list of equipment.

Corvette Wins IntelliChoice's '2011 Best Overall Values of Year' Performance Award

Stellar performance - one of the qualities a Corvette is known for!

Just this past month, IntelliChoice, the market leader in automotive ownership cost and car value analysis, re-instilled this Corvette fact at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) 2011 Best Overall Value of the Year (BOVY) awards in San Francisco.

The Chevrolet Corvette was honored as Performance Car of the Year for 2011!

The BOVY awards identify which vehicles on the market offer consumers outstanding value and lower than expected costs over time, giving customers a way to best define vehicles that will provide them with a "best bang for your buck" deal.

"The most important thing about choosing a car wisely is knowing that it's not just about the lowest sticker price," said IntelliChoice Executive Editor, Charlie Vogelheim. "In fact, the purchase price is just the first cost; there are many other factors to consider when gauging overall cost."

Only 21 of nearly 1,800 vehicles fit into a winning category, representing the best values and results of a careful analysis of ownership costs (depreciation, maintenance, repairs, fuel, fees, financing, insurance, etc.).

Vehicle Class Winners included:

Performance Car - Chevrolet Corvette

Compact Passenger Car - Honda Fit
Premium Compact Passenger Car - Lexus IS 250
Passenger Car - Toyota Prius
Premium Passenger Car - Toyota Avalon
Luxury Passenger Car - Infiniti M37
Convertible - Mini Cooper Convertible
Premium Convertible - Lexus IS 250C
Sporty/Coupe - Mini Cooper Hatchback
Premium Sporty/Coupe - Volvo C30
Compact Crossover/Wagon - Toyota RAV4
Premium Compact Crossover/Wago - Audi A3
Crossover/Wagon - Subaru Outback
Premium Crossover/Wagon - Lexus RX350
Luxury Crossover/Wagon - Volvo XC90
Minivan - Toyota Sienna
SUV - Toyota 4Runner
Full-Size SUV - GMC Yukon
Premium Full-Size SUV - Lexu GX460
Compact Pickup - Toyota Tacoma
Full-Size Pickup - Toyota Tundra

A Top Collectible, the ZR1

2011 Corvette ZR1In our opinion, there are two kinds of drivers: practical vs. investor. The practical drivers look to a car as just a means of transportation. The investor, however, sees a vehicle as a means to making money long-term with their prized-possession.

Well, Hagerty Insurance’s CEO, McKeel Hagerty, was recently asked which vehicles he would rank as the future’s most collectible. His list includes:

  1. Dodge Viper
  2. Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
  3. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
  4. Ford GT
  5. Porsche Carrera GT

When asked why he ranked the ZR1, Hagerty responded, “this is the Corvette that elevated the model into a new class of world class sports cars. Nowhere has this news been more prominently displayed than on the recent ZR1, the most powerful Corvette to date. And unlike the big block screamers of the 1960s, like the L88, the ZR1 is totally trackable and downright docile.”

Would you classify the ZR1 as an all-time collectible? Tell us your prize list.

Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition Pricing Announced

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon EditionBack in April we blogged about GM’s 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition after it was unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Only 500 of these babies will be manufactured for the 2011 calendar year. And until now, Corvette enthusiasts were left guessing its price. Well folks, GM’s Corvette product marketing manager, Harlan Charles, recently revealed:

  • For the first quarter of 2011, the Z06 Carbon’s MSRP will be $90,960.
  • With full options, the vehicle’s cost will run upwards to $99,925.

Though the price may seem high, you have to remember the exclusivity of this vehicle and the price point when compared to its sister, the ZR1.

ZR1 Sunscreen Developed

Carbon fiber is 70% lighter than steel, allowing for an overall better fuel economy and a more enjoyable riding and handling driving experience. Who wouldn’t want it on their car, right?

Well until recently, carbon fiber on Corvettes (or any vehicle for that matter) was known to breakdown in the presence of sunlight.

Mark Voss, ZR1’s senior design engineer, and his after-hours team took on this as a challenge to develop something that would protect the carbon fiber exterior. Conducting research and multiple testing on their own time, this team recently developed an industry-first technology breakthrough: “sunscreen” for the Corvette ZR1.

This “sunscreen” is really a protective clear coat that blocks the sun’s UV frequencies that are known to degrade the carbon fiber. When sprayed, this protective coat will not only last the vehicle’s lifetime, but will also shield from any paint chips and/or scratches.

"Our challenge was finding a way to give our customers exposed-weave carbon fiber with the durability they have come to expect from a Corvette," Voss said. "Other automakers have opted for fake attempts at a carbon-fiber look. With the Corvette ZR1, we wanted to give customers the real deal."

Check out the video after the jump.

Romeo Ferraris Touches Corvette Z06

One could equate their own meaning behind: Romeo Ferrari.
Romeo. Love?
Ferrari. European car?

Well in fact, Romeo Ferraris is an Italian tuning house that works on rebuilding high-performance vehicles. Their latest project: a Corvette Z06. Yes... An American-made hot-rod. Good stuff.

They’ve stripped the Z06 and added a supercharger to the 7.0-liter LS7 V8 engine. Now this baby is able to put out 667-horspower and 607 lb. of torque – making this ride more powerful than its ZR1 brother!

The Vortech system contains a centrifugal compressor, air-to-air aluminum inter-cooler and high-flow injectors as well as a custom cat-back sport exhaust system. So really, it takes nothing for this baby to get places. We’re talking: 62 mph in 3.3 seconds and up to top speeds of 211 mph!

She sounds fun, eh?

2011 Corvette Jake Edition Concept

Five years ago, the now-famous symbolized skull-head of Jake was introduced as a Corvette Racing’s team mascot. Today, the team’s racing spirit continues to stay strong. In celebration, Chevrolet designers gathered together to create the 2011 Corvette Jake Edition Concept, a Grand Sport Coupe convertible concept vehicle!

This new special edition concept vehicle, painted in a Competition Gray finish, features new Genuine Corvette Accessories (GCA) designed with the fierce mascot. While some of the accessories on the concept are available now through GCA, there are still accessories that are not currently out but will be in the near future.

“Jake is more than the mascot for Corvette Racing, he personifies the Corvette spirit,” said Dave Ross, design manager. “We designed this concept to demonstrate how any enthusiast could create his own Jake special model with parts available from any Chevrolet dealership.”

Features on the 2011 Corvette Jake Edition Concept include:

Exterior:

  • Corvette Z06 wheels in Competition Gray
  • “Corvette”-logo windshield header graphic
  • GT1 Championship Edition Jake-logo hood graphic
  • Jake-logo wheel center caps, fender badge & underhood blanket/lighting
  • Chevrolet Accessory full-width rear spoiler in Cyber Gray

Interior:

  • Ebony leather with titanium stitching and red accents on the seats
  • Chevrolet Accessory interior trim kit, racing pedal kit
  • Chevrolet Accessory “Jake” floor mats & console lid

Performance:

  • LS3 6.2L V-8 with Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission
  • Chevrolet Accessory Tech-pattern engine cover

Lots of Corvettes at SEMA 2010

SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) is a massive custom and accessory auto show that takes place each year in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year’s (Nov. 2 – 5, 2010) show brought more than 107,000 people from all over the world in to sniff out the latest automotive aftermarket opportunities.

Chevrolet was there in full force with Corvettes galore. Attendees could witness the assembling of the powerplant for a ZR1. New and old renditions of Corvettes were revealed. Chevrolet even released two distinct Corvette concepts at the show!

  1. 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Jake Edition Concept – Jake, the Corvette Racing team’s mascot, is plastered all over this hot ride. The vehicle is fully accessorized with Jake accessories that are still yet to be released.
  2. 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Z06X Track Car Concept – This standard Z06 is stuffed with SCCA-approved roll cage, racing seats, harness and a fire suppression system. Carbon fiber body panels and a polycarbonate rear window allow this car to just zip right on by its competition (Dodge Viper ACR-X).

In addition to that, local aftermarket vendors brought their very own dubbed up Corvettes to attract guests to their booths. Much like Michigan’s Specter Werkes, who brought their all-new C6-based Corvette GTR, equipped with lots of custom bodywork and exposed carbon fiber.

A great show and an abundance of Corvettes, nonetheless!

Corvette Sun Visor Problems ?

We just got word today from GM that there have been several customer complaints on 2010 and 2011 Corvettes with regards to the Sun Visor lamp lens coming loose.  While this isn't a full-fledged recall, it is a warning to dealers that there have been multiple customer issues.  The repair calls for a full replacement of the sun visor.  If you're having similar problems, please see your local Chevy dealer to get things taken care of.

Who will cross the line first... Porsche 911 Turbo vs. Corvette ZR1?

Motor Trend has put together an AWESOME, 3-minute video of a drag race between two ultimate sports cars. With amazing morph graphics, video visuals and Johnny Lieberman providing the distinct voice work, it’s a must see!  Watch the video below.

A drag race puts a red, rear-wheel drive 2011 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 against a white, all-wheel drive 2010 Prosche 911 Turbo.

With an asphalt drag strip of only 1,320 feet, who will cross the line first... Porsche or Corvette?

We'll give you a hint. Traction is key in this race. One of the vehicles ended up finishing at 3.5 car-lengths in front of the other.

New Age in Driving... OnStar Now Testing Facebook/Texting Capabilities

OnStar comes standard on all 2011 Chevrolet Corvettes. There are plenty of great benefits to using OnStar like Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Remote Lock Out Assistance, Emergency Services when you're in a crash and much more...

Just this month, news has it that General Motors is testing social media networks on OnStar using a reworked version of OnStar, called Ford’s SYNC system.

This new feature will test two features:

  • Facebook Updates – allowing users to verbally update their Facebook status just through use of audio recordings. The OnStar Virtual Advisor feature will also allow the vehicle’s voice-activated system to read Facebook status updates and news feeds to the driver.

  • Voice Texting – pairing the driver’s Bluetooth mobile phone with OnStar will permit the system to read received SMS messages and reply using 4 pre-set voice messages.

With OnStar best known for its roadside assistance and in-car accident reporting… Do you think this new social media feature is truly beneficial to drivers who should ultimately be focusing their attention on the road ahead?  Will you, as a Corvette owner and enthusiast use such services?  Let us know!

Control your Vehicle from your Cell Phone!

In today’s technology-driven world, leaving the house without your cell phone is devastating for many. And now that millions of available cell phone apps ease finding the answers for many, why not coordinate it your vehicle?

Leveraging OnStar’s technology, smartphones, iPhones and blackberries will soon be able to control key functions on select 2011 Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC vehicles. Key functions include:

  • Remote vehicle start
  • Activate horn & light panic mode
  • Lock/unlock doors
  • Fuel tank level & range read
  • Remaining oil life read
  • Current & recommended tire pressure read

Yes folks, your key fob is slowly turning into a thing of the past… Now drivers can be far away from their vehicle and yet still activate these functions without even using their keys!

“We’re working aggressively to bring the Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC applications to market as soon as possible,” says Joel Ewanick, vice president, GM Marketing. “Because we know that each brand’s customers have different tastes, wants and needs, the apps will be very specifically tailored to offer them the services they value most, leveraging these innovative OnStar features as a compelling mutual foundation.”

The apps are expected to roll-out in the coming months. Stay tuned for more information. But, first, check out this brief demo video on the link below.

Good stuff!

Build Your Very Own Corvette Engine!

Purchasing a car is a big step. So, when it comes time to purchasing one, customers relish on how best they can make that vehicle their very own. Customization is key!

Who wouldn’t want to pick out their new vehicle’s color? Pick cloth or leather seating? Customize it with certain options? Watch it being built on the production line itself? Build its engine?!?

That’s right - Chevrolet is going all out with their new offering. All 2011 Z06 and ZR1 buyers are now given the option to build the powerplant for their new Corvette!

The two engines, LS7 and LS9, that are built into these vehicles are assembled at the Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich. Each engine is produced individually. A GM skilled tech will supervise each owner during the entire process, which takes just a bare block and converts it into their CORVETTE ENGINE! The whole process lasts around six hours.

The new program, set to begin as early as next month, costs an additional $5,800 excluding the additional travel to Detroit. Find out what this all entails by watching a time-lapse video after the jump.

50 Years and Still Celebrating...

Yes, as you all may know, the 1960 Briggs Cunningham Corvette won Chevrolet their very first class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Now after fifty years, General Motors has chosen to celebrate this historic win in a unique way. GM will adorn the very first 2011 Chevrolet Corvette in the very same decals and blue stripes on white paint job.

Not only that, but the new Corvette will also come with a hidden agenda, packing both the Z06 and CFZ packages. The special-edition ‘Vette can hit 505 horsepower with its 7.0-liter aluminum V8 engine. With all this, including trendy wheels and a carbon fiber bodywork, what would you pay for this special-edition hot rod?

How about $400,000? Well, asking price does include… a tax-deductive charity donation of $300,000 & a production cost of $85,000. You ready to pay?

Episode 3 of 12: Corvette Racing Series

This year marks Corvette Racing’s 50th year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In celebration of this milestone, a special edition Corvette has been created – the Z06 Carbon.

“We want it [Carbon Z06] to show how we can use racing technology on the streets,” says Harlan Charles, Corvette product manager.

The creation of this ‘Vette is really a culmination of the continuous improvements that Corvette has made both within their racing program and on the everyday street-car production.

From carbon fiber exterior panels to suede/leather interior to carbon ceramic brakes, check out all the bells and whistles that this vehicle has to offer. In fact, later this summer, 500 of the 2011 Z06 Carbons will be available for purchase. Interested?

Hendrick Bids $297K for 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon at Palm Springs Barrett-Jackson

2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited EditionOn the final day (April 3) of Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach, the very first (still non-existent) 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon Limited Edition was auctioned off in front of a crowd of more than 50,000.

The winning bid of $270,000 went to Rick Hendrick, owner of one of the largest automotive chains in the U.S. - Hendrick Automotive Group. After tacking on additional auction commission and buyer fees, the final bid rang in at $297,000.

Of the 500 Corvette Z06 Carbons that will ever be produced, Hendrick will take home the very first with a VIN #001.

Hendrick will also get the opportunity to tour the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom AND watch the assembly of his brand new vehicle at the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant later this summer.

For an automotive aficionado like Hendrick, what’s $297K? Pocket change, maybe.

First Corvette Z06 Carbon to be Auctioned Off Saturday

The first retail model of only 500 2011 Z06 Carbon Corvettes will be auctioned off this Saturday at the Palm Beach Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction.

In keeping with tradition, GM normally sends the very first production vehicle to Barrett-Jackson. Like the first ZR1 and Camaro, the Carbon Z06 will soon follow suit.

The very last Corvette to have hit the auction floor was the limited edition Z06, which ended up raising $200,000 to help with the Haiti disaster relief efforts.

It ought to be interesting to see how much the Z06 Carbon will go for…  it is a hot ride.

New Goodyear Tires for 2011 Z06

2011 Corvette Z06 TiresDetails are finally surfacing about the 2011 Corvette Z06.  While not the most exciting news or details, the tires are important and the first major announcement we have.

“Street-refined, but track-capable.” That’s exactly what Goodyear had in mind when factory fitting their latest Ultra-High Performance Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires for the 2011 Corvette Z06.

Bob Toth, Goodyear's director of new products, believes the multiple facets of the tire are important when fitting for the Corvette. The directional tread design helps enhance the dry cornering grip while even the tire’s style and lettering is important in giving the overall high performance appearance.

"The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is positioned as a race-inspired, ultra-high performance dry traction tire for select supercars. With a left-side, right-side specific tread design, it offers superb dry traction and precise handling, complementing both the performance and appearance of sports cars," Toth said.

Now after multiple road course tests throughout North America, the tires will be available this summer in two run-flat sizes: P275/35ZR18 and P325/30ZR19.
