2009 Corvettes

Who's to Blame... Economy or Consumer Interest?

Plain and simple:  last year’s Corvette sales were the worst since 1961.

Yes, this extensive drop may very well be attributed to the current state of the economy (and automotive industry) at large. But, is this decline completely reminiscent of the economy?

After much research, Edmunds’ AutoObserver.com thinks it’s a combination of two things: down economy AND loss of consumer interest in sports cars.

In 2008, the Corvette was one of the best selling sports cars around, consuming more than 6% of the sports car market share.

Just last year, the Corvette declined 43.8% in sales! Yes, the economy didn’t help, but should we also place blame on the close competitor – Chevy Camaro? Not according to Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell, who states, “Over 60,000 Camaros were sold last year, and many of the buyers are unlikely to have chosen another sports car in its place had it not been on the market.”

So, maybe this legendary American sports cars’ sales decline can be attributed to a loss in consumer “flair” after all?  What do you think?

Build Your Own Engine?

Tom Read from GM's Advanced Powertrain Technology Communications recently stated, "We are considering the program".

What’s this program that he speaks of? Well, it will allow Corvette ZR1 buyers to build their very own LS9 V8 638 horsepower engine!

So now, in addition to employing 38 skilled builders at the Wixom, Mich. Performance Build Center to personally oversee and construct 45 LS9 engines each week, GM may present this same opportunity to customers who purchase their own ZR1. I’m afraid watching your Corvette come off the production line has now been replaced with building your own engine.

Pretty cool, if you ask us.

What do you think of this opportunity if GM comes through with approving it? Would you want to take part? The first hurdle you’d have to face, of course, would be the purchase of your $100,000 baby.

Check out the video after the jump.

2010 Best Car for the Money: Corvette

U.S. News & World Report recently released their 2010 Best Cars for the Money listing. Without surprise, the Chevrolet Corvette made the list as Best Luxury Sports Car!

The vehicles that were chosen to receive one of the 23 Best for the Money awards can be seen after the jump.  You'll notice the majority of the vehicles on the list are imports, only 3 cars coming out of the big three and only 1 from GM - the Vette.

The various award categories help classify each type of car. U.S. News’ automotive rankings, customer satisfaction and good long-term value are all main criteria for being nominated for this award.

Chevrolet Corvette – Best Luxury Car … Sounds good together and completely expected.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport Is Hot!

Without a doubt, the Grand Sport is the preferred model for those purchasing a new Corvette for the 2010 model year!  So, what is it about the Grand Sport that draws the customers?

I think the answers to this question are easy.  They are Looks and Choices.

I say Looks, because for the first time, the Corvette buyer can get that beautiful wide body look, previously available only to the buyer of the Z06 or the ZR1.  You have just got to love those gills!

And, I say Choices because you can have these desirable looks in a Convertible, as well as in a Coupe!  In addition, you can have the 6-Speed Paddle-Shift Automatic Transmission or the 6-Speed Manual.  Yes, you have new choices in this year's Corvette line!

Scott Burgess of the Detroit News was one of many auto writers to pick up on these qualities, and write about them.  Scott is spot on, as usual.

GM's May The Best Car Win Campaign

General Motors is finally stepping up to the plate with an innovative program to get conquest customers into the showroom.  If you haven't yet heard, they are offering a 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee through November 30th, 2009.

What this means is that if you take delivery of a new Chevy (say a Corvette for example), you keep it for 30 days and if you don't like it, you have between 31 and 60 days to return it to the dealership you purchased it from.  Chevy (and us) are confident you're going to love the new GM car you choose, and we're standing behind them.

The are a few stipulations to the program, including any negative equity, accessories, service contracts or any other additions that might be to the vehicle's purchase price must be paid for by the customer when they return the vehicle.  In other words, GM isn't picking up your negative equity or your accessories.  Other than that, for the most part, you are free and clear to turn it in.  If you have a payment during the time you have the vehicle (which you will), you need to pay that.  You can't be late in your contract.

If you're interested in more information, you can always call or email us at CorvetteBlog.  If you want to see GM's commercial about the promotion, view it after the jump.

May the Best Car Win.

Current Corvette Incentives & Discounts

We've been taking a lot of calls lately wondering about what discounts are currently available on Corvettes.  That said, we thought we'd take a quick minute to recap all of the current offers that you may qualify for:

2009 Corvettes

  • GM's Open House promotion gives everyone the GM Supplier Discount pricing
  • If you qualify for the GM Employee Discount (GMS), you are eligible for $500 off
  • If you have a Nissan or Infinity in the household (2000 or newer), you are eligible for $1,500 off
  • If the Corvette you're interested in is an "old invoice" unit, or one that has been in a dealer's inventory for a long time, you are entitled to $1,000 off.  There's no way for a consumer to check on those units that qualify, so if you are interested, please contact the selling dealership and inquire about the program.
  • 2009 Corvette ZR1s do not qualify for any of the above programs, except the "Old invoice" program, but most likely none of those would qualify either.

2008 Corvettes

  • $4,000 Customer Cash Rebate is available, or you can take 5.9% financing (with approved credit) for up to 60 months.
  • 0% Financing is available up to 60 months or 3.9% financing up to 72 months (with approved credit), but you give up all of the other rebates available except the GM Open House Supplier Discount Pricing (described below)
  • GM's Open House promotion gives everyone the GM Supplier Discount pricing
  • If you qualify for the GM Employee Discount (GMS), you are eligible for $2,000 off
  • If you have a Nissan or Infinity in the household (2000 or newer), you are eligible for $1,500 off
  • Every 2008 Corvette should qualify as an "old invoice" unit, so you are entitled to $1,000 off.  There's no way for a consumer to check on those units that qualify, so if you are interested, please contact the selling dealership and inquire about the program.

Incentives and Rebates can be confusing.  If we can help at all, please don't hesitate to give one of our staff a call at (888) 875-0728.  Remember we also have a number of 2009 Corvettes & Z06's available, all priced below GM Supplier Pricing.

Owner Loyalty Announced

GMHot off the presses!  GM has now announced another rebate that will run through the end of the month for current GM owners!  If you own or lease any GM product (1999 or newer), you will receive $1,000 Bonus Cash!

This rebate is stackable with all available Bonus Cash and the Spring Car Care rebates (that we mentioned yesterday).  However, it will NOT stack with the APR offer (on the 2008 Corvettes for example).

If you're looking for a new or pre-owned Corvette, give us a call at (888) 875-0728 and we'll be glad to help you.  We are so thankful this Memorial Day weekend for all of our readers and satisfied customers around the United States!

Chevy Memorial Day Sale Announced

Chevy's Memorial Day SaleWell, wouldn't you know that GM has announced their annual "Memorial Day Sale" just 2 days before the actual Memorial Day weekend begins.  The sale this year really doesn't seem to have the 'bang for the buck' as sales in years past.  Perhaps that's because GM is offering 0% financing on many models right now, or perhaps that's because they know a bankrupcy is on the horizon and this is a last ditched effort for quick sales before they announce it.  Either way, the sale this year only improves the deals on 3 models:  the Cobalt, the Impala and the Silverado.  Corvette is left out in the dark.

So let's not waste time talking about the other models when we really only care about Corvettes here on CorvetteBlog.  We thought we take a quick minute to again summarize the current offers that are available:

On 2009 Corvettes:

  • Some of you may be eligible for $500 off with the GM Spring Car Care discount.  There was a mailer that you may have gotten that had the discount as part of it.  If you don't know if you qualify or not, your local dealer can look up your name and address and see if you qualify for the $500 off.  Expires 6/30/09.

  • Some dealers may be using Corvette Bonus Certificates.  This is a program that gives dealers the ability to stack up to 6 $500 certificates on a Corvette sale.  The number of certificates a dealer has is based on a number of factors including current inventory and total Corvette availability.  Expires on 6/1/09.

On remaining 2008 Corvettes:

  • $2000 Bonus Cash is available if you don't take any incentivized financing options.  Expires on 6/1/09.

  • 0% Financing is available with approved credit for up to 60 months, or 2.9% Financing is available for up to 72 months.  Expires on 6/1/09.

  • Again, if you qualified for the Spring Car Care discount (mentioned above), you can stack that with a 2008 Corvette purchase.  Expires 6/30/09.

We have a nice selection of 2009 Corvettes still available for purchase, all priced at below MSRP and GM Supplier Discounts!  For more details on our inventory, you can click the link at the top of CorvetteBlog, or call us direct at (888) 875-0728.  We ship nationally and will pass on all of the savings from Detroit right to you!

Tax Incentive for New Car Buyers

Internal Revenue ServiceLooking to purchase a new Corvette? Well even if you’re not, the government REALLY wants you to! Even though the automotive industry is in the midst of extremely difficult times, there is still good news from the government for interested car buyers.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced that individuals who purchase new cars will be able to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes from their 2009 tax returns. Still interested? To qualify, the new vehicle must be purchased between the window frame of February 16, 2009 to January 1, 2010.

The IRS is hoping that this tax deduction incentive will aid the automotive industry during their recent down times, while still helping to offset consumer expenses. IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman quotes, “For those thinking about buying a new car this year, this deduction may give them a little more drive to make their purchase this year. This deduction enables taxpayers to buy now and get cash back later on their tax returns.”

Do you think the IRS is making the right move by instituting this deduction? Maybe this will do some good. But, is there really any hope for the automotive industry afterall?

To check if you qualify for this deduction, click the link below.

New Bowling Green Assembly Plant Downtime Announced

Bowling Green Assembly PlantGM announed that they were planning to reduce production to align with market demand, meaning that many assembly plants will be ideled in the coming weeks so that inventory can catch up with demand.  We've just learned that the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, home to the Corvette, will be one of the most severly impacted plants that GM has.

The plant will be down 9 weeks.  The downtime weeks are as follows:  5/4, 5/11, 6/1, 6/8, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 8/3, 8/10.  These new operating plans have also revised the buildout and startup schedules for the 2009 and 2010 Corvettes.

The new revised buildout for the last 2009 Corvettes will be July 28th, 2009.  The new revised startup for the 2010 Corvettes will be July 29th, 2009.

Expanded Lease Pull-Ahead Program Announced

GM LogoGreat News Just Announced!  GM has expanded the current Lease Pull Ahead Program from 2 months to 4 months.  That means if you are in a GMAC SmartLease or SmartBuy contract, we will pay up to 5 of your remaining payments if your lease expires no later than 10/31/2009.

Previous to today's announcement, GM was only covering 2 payments, so this is a nice incentive for those of you who have been holding out to have more of your payments waived, or to get out of your lease before you go over mileage.

Also, remember if you're in a lease and purchase a new Corvette, you'll receive $500 in addition to any other incentivized financing or special discounts being offered with GM's Lease to Purchase cash.  **Note, you do not need to purchase to get this discount; you can lease again through a bank such as US Bank.**

If you have any questions about your options, what you might qualify for, or want to price out some payments on a new 2008 or 2009 Corvette, call us today at 888-875-0728 and we'll be glad to help!

Blowout Deal of the Week: 2008 Corvette Coupe

2008 Corvette SavingsNow is the time to take advantage of some very special savings on our remaining 2008 models.  Here's another example of how we can save you thousands!

Our Corvettes are NEVER stored outdoors, and this one has only been driven in our showroom since received from the original ordering dealer (less than 20 miles away).  Here are the details...

The vehicle is a 2008 Corvette Coupe 1LT (Machine Silver Metallic / Ebony) with an MSRP of $53,035.  We are offering the vehicle for the discounted price before taxes of $43,000!  This price assumes you don't take advantage of 0% financing.  If you wanted to take 0% financing, your price would be $47,000 (the $4,000 rebate available doesn't qualify with 0%), which is still a hell of a deal.  Here is a list of the vehicle's options:

  • CC3  Removable Transparent Roof Panel
  • FE9  Federal Emissions
  • F55  Magnetic Selective Ride Control
  • LS3  6.2 Liter 436 HP Engine
  • MX0  6 speed Automatic Transmission with paddle shift
  • NPP  Dual Mode Exhaust

March 2009 Corvette Sales Data

What can we really say about March sales?  There is good news amongst the doom and gloom.  With the weather getting nicer in many parts of the country and with incentives (including 0% on 2008 models) helping to move inventory, we can only hope that we have turned the corner and are going to see some additional growth in sales over the coming months.

March saw a 56% decline in sales versus 2008's figures, although there were more Vettes delivered in March than in any month since September of last year.  That's a bonus.  In total, however, 2009 sales since January 1st are still showing a 55% decline against 2008.

Here's the breakdown:

Corvette for Christmas?

Corvettes have frequently been given as Christmas gifts.  So what if they don't fit under the tree!  The easy resolution is to place a scale model under the tree, while the new drivable beauty sits in the garage under a giant bow.

As a result, the parent Chevrolet dealership of CorvetteBlog has a nice selection of Christmas gifts this year.  We have a handful of 2008 models, and a larger selection of 2009 models.  The large gold bow is available at no extra cost, upon request.

If you are interested, please give this blogger a call at 1-888-875-0728 or comment on this blog with your contact information.  It will be kept private.

Corvette Incentive Countdown

Chevy Model Year End EventWe have had quite a few questions from customers lately about the current incentives that GM is running and when they expire.  We thought we'd take a quick second to review what's available right now, and for how long.

2008 Corvettes & Z06s:  Currently there are a couple of options.  First, GM is offering 0% financing up to 48 months (for those qualifying), or 2.9% for 60 months, or 5.9% for 72 months.  If you don't want to finance with GMAC, then you have bonus cash options.

You automatically will get $1,000 off.  If you currently have a lease that expires before June 30, 2009 (does not have to be with GMAC and does not have to be turned in), you qualify for an additional $2,000, giving you $3,000 total.

If you do have a GMAC lease that you want to Pull Ahead, GM is offering up to 4 payments waived.

2009 Corvettes & Z06s:  There are no incentivized financing rates right now, or any bonus cash offers.  The only available incentives are for those who are currently in a lease expiring before June 30th, 2009 (as mentioned above).  Instead of the $2,000 rebate on a 2008 model, the 2009 model gets $1,000 off.

All of the incentives and rebates offers end November 3rd.  We have a great selection of 2008 Corvettes remaining in inventory, both Coupes and Convertibles that we are blowing out, offering extremely discounted pricing.  Click here to see our inventory and find out more.

GM Expands Certified Pre-Owned Program

GM Certified Pre-Owned VehiclesAs we all know, car manufacturers are feeling the blunt of the market now with car sales at an all time low. In an effort to appeal more to consumers, General Motors has issued an increased warranty coverage on Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.

This new warranty will come standard on all GM Certified Used Vehicles or Saturn Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles as of September 13th. When a consumer now purchases a certified pre-owned vehicle, the new program offers a 12-month or 12,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty.  This includes all Certified Corvettes.

Now, maybe you’re thinking, what’s bumper-to-bumper mean? Well, the warranty will cover the entire vehicle excluding items that wear down over time and usage, such as tires and brakes. Pretty good deal, if you ask us.

GM also offers a powertrain limited warranty of 5-years or 100,000 miles on all 2007 or later vehicles. This package is exclusive and also provides consumers with 24-hour roadside assistance, free history report on a vehicle, 117-point inspection, and a customer satisfaction guaranteed period.

For further information, click below to learn more about GM Certified Used Vehicles.

You can also check out our current inventory of GM Certified Pre-Owned Corvettes by clicking here.

GM Employee Discount to Everyone Extended

Chevy Employee Discount for EveryoneShould we have expected any different?  Today GM announced they will extend their GM Employee Discount for Everyone incentive program through September 30th.  The program was originally set to end yesterday but late Tuesday they told dealers they would be pushing the program into September.

With expected lackluster sales for August, GM is hoping the incentive program, and the newly announced Lease to Buy Bonus Cash will sway current lessees and conquest customers into GM purchases.

Here's the break down on how the Corvette is impacted.  The GM Employee Discount offer is still available on all 2008 Corvettes and Z06's. 2009 models do not qualify for the discount.

GM'S Lease to Buy Bonus Cash gives current GMAC lessees $2,000 on all 2008 Corvettes & Z06's and $1,000 on all 2009 Corvettes & Z06's.  If you're coming out of a lease, it really is a sweet deal.

The current incentive and Bonus Cash offers end September 30th, 2008.

We still have a number of 2008 Coupes and Convertibles remaining in our inventory.  Click here for a full inventory list.  With the savings that GM is offering with this promotion, you can see discounts of up to $12,000 or more (on a Z06 for example).  Also for our national customers outside of Detroit, let us give you a quote to ship the vehicle directly to you.  In many cases it may cost much less than you expect and you still can get a great deal.

If you're interested, give us a call at (888) 875-0728 or leave a comment (which will be kept private).  We'd love to deplete our remaining inventory and pass the savings on to you, our valued readers.

With the decreased value of the U.S. dollar, are Europeans really better off?

2009 Corvette ZR1After Kroyman Corporation, a Dutch importer, recently announced the European sticker price of the new ZR1, you should be lucky you live west of the Atlantic! Here in the United States, a ZR1 goes for $105,000, which includes shipping, luxury tax, and driver’s training courses.

Now, relatively speaking, one U.S. dollar currently equals roughly 0.64 euros. So, you would think that those lucky Europeans would able to snatch this gem of a car for close to $67,200.

However, Kroyman Corporation, which handles all Corvette sales in Europe, recently revealed an incredible 136,000 euros as the price of the new Corvette! Now, when one calculates the 136,000 euros into dollars, it leaves you with a $214,000 vehicle!!

So there you have it. Europe is already infamous for their insanely high gas prices and tax rates. And now if you want to purchase a ZR1, be extra happy you live in the United States!

GM Employee Discount to Everyone Announced

Chevy Employee Discount for EveryoneGM announced the return of their GM Employee Discount for Everyone incentive program.  The program was the most successful rebate and incentive offer in GM's history when it was run back in 2005.  With times as they are now, GM dusted off the idea and has once again brought it to market.

The Employee Discount offer is available on all 2008 Corvettes and Z06's. 2009 models do not qualify for the discount.  The program runs through September 2nd, the day after Labor Day.

Many of you have asked us if the 0% financing offer that was available the first part of this month is still going on, and unfortunately, it is not.  The supported APR programs through GMAC are 6.9% for up to 60 months and 7.9% for 72.

Hint at ZR1 Production Dates?

2009 Corvette ZR1Today Chevrolet hosted a meeting for all dealers via Satellite discussing May's sales results and 2009 vehicle enhancements and details.

While all that was going on, he did stop a second to talk about the ZR1.  While no additional details on allocation, distribution or first ordering dates was released, he did give us one nugget of information.

The 2009 Corvette ZR1 will begin production in July.

Seeing as dealers begin their vehicle consensus process again on Friday, perhaps we can expect some details regarding allocation and firm dates for ordering in the very near future!

We appreciate all of your calls about the ZR1 and allocation information from our readers.  As soon as we know anything we'll be posting a story and contacting those readers that have showed an interest.

In the meantime, feel free to check out our ZR1 photo gallery by clicking here. print this article Posted By Ryan In 2009 Corvette ZR1 , Buying a Corvette , Corvette News , Corvette Production | 0 Comments Permalink

Let the Last Cycle Begin...

2008 Corvette Coupe - Final Week to Order!Well after 11 months of ordering the 2008 model year Corvette, today we embark on the final cycle for the year.  Today Chevrolet dealers across the country received their final allocation figures for the 2008 model year, which we will order over the next 4 weeks.  All sold orders for customers must be in this week by April 25th, while dealers will still have 3 weeks to order for stock.

The production period for vehicles ordered during this cycle is May 19th - June 20th.  On June 20th, all production will cease at the factory, there will be a 3 day window where no builds will take place as they prepare for the 2009 model year production to begin on June 23rd.

With lackluster sales figures overall, the 2009 Corvette and ZR1 are highly anticipated vehicles.  Perhaps the change in colors and updated various options will drive sales higher come summer.

If you are still in the market for a 2008 Corvette, we have allocation available which we can deliver nationally to you or to the Museum.  If you are looking for first dibs on a 2009 Corvette, we are accepting deposits now.  Simply leave a comment (which will be kept private), or give us a call direct at (888) 875-0728. print this article Posted By Ryan In 2008 Corvettes , Buying a Corvette , Corvette News , Corvette Production | 1 Comments Permalink

2009 Corvette Exterior Color Samples

2009 Corvette New Color Samples

By popular demand, we are posting sample colors of the 2 new Corvette colors for the 2009 model year, Silver Ice Metallic (17U) and Cyber Gray Metallic (57U).  Please note, we have scanned our color chip chart for you to see and the Cyber Gray comes out darker in our image than on the chart, so keep that in mind.  This is as good as we could do for all of you now, until Chevrolet releases some web-ready pictures, which we are watching for.

2008 Corvette Ordering Updates

2008 Corvette Indy Pace Car (Z4Z)While we don't normally post updates on ordering after publishing the Corvette Constraints for the week, we thought this information was worth updating you on as it was redistributed to dealers by Chevy's District Managers.  The updates are in regards to 2 different options:  The Z4Z Indy Pace Car and the 67U Machine Silver constraints.

The Z4Z Indy Pace Car replicas are still available for ordering.  When we saw the number of available units the past couple of weeks for dealers to order, we thought demand might be a little low.  Looks like we were right.  This week the ZAZ constraints are not protected.  This means that if a dealer has a Pace Car order waiting in their que but doesn't have the allocation during the initial ordering cycle, they can pick one up if another dealer passes on their allocation.  As a reminder, there are 500 replicas being built.

67U Machine Silver is now officially discontinued.  We had heard rumors and posted those thoughts in the past couple of weeks and it has now been confirmed.  They will replace Machine Silver in 2009 with two different silver color options.  One is called Blade Silver Metallic (17U) which is a lighter silver color resembling Machine Silver and the other is Cyber Gray Metallic (57U), a darker color silver/gray.

We are accepting deposits on 2009 Corvettes, which we will gladly order for you in either of those new colors or any color you desire, all at GM Supplier Pricing for our Corvette Blog readers, with national delivery.  Call us or comment back today for more details.

2007 Corvette Incentive Update

We all know today is April Fool's Day, but it also marks the beginning of the 2nd Quarter of 2008 for GM, meaning all of the incentive programs have changed.  Here is the latest on what is available on Corvettes nationwide.

Currently there are no discounts on 2008 Corvettes, not surprising given that we are coming into the "Corvette Selling Season" right now.  However, on all remaining 2007 Corvettes we see two different programs:
  • Customer Cash:  This program has been in place for a couple of months now and remains unchanged.  Any 2007 Coupe will receive a $2,000 discount, any 2007 Convertible will receive a $3,000 discount.  Z06's are not discounted.
  • GM Owner Loyalty Program:  Current owners or lessees of 1999 or newer GM cars or trucks will receive an additional $1,000 towards the purchase of a 2007 Corvette Coupe, Convertible, and Z06.
  • GM Lease Pull Ahead Program:  If your GM lease expires before 3/31/09, you can return your current leased GM vehicle and GM will waive 2 current payments when buying or leasing a new 2007 or 2008 Corvette.  (This is down from 6 months of waived payments last month).
If you have any questions about pricing programs, incentives, or rebates... feel free to call or leave us a comment and we'll get back to you to clarify right away.  As always, if you purchase or lease a Corvette from CorvetteBlog, you will receive the GM Supplier Discount. Call or comment for complete details!

2007 Corvette Incentives Continue to Grow

Shop Chevy Now EventChevy is really trying to move the remaining 2007 Corvettes on the ground around the US.  If the previous incentives of $2,000 and $3,000 on '07 Coupes and Convertibles, respectively, wasn't enough... now they've gone and made it better.

From now until 3/31/08 you can get 0% Financing on all 2007 Corvette Coupes and Convertibles!  The offer doesn't apply to remaining '07 Z06's.  The financing offer is for those S, A, or B tier credit and cannot be combined with the incentive cash mentioned in the first paragraph.

If you're looking for a new Corvette and don't mind having last year's model, then now is really the best time we've seen to make it happen.  You can save over $10,000 on the financing alone, and if you're not looking to finance, why not just take the customer cash discounts and get a great deal.

We still have 2 remaining 2007 Corvettes, a 3LT Convertible and a 3LT Coupe.  If you're interested in learning about the pricing and options, please let us know by calling us today at (888) 875-0728 or by leaving a comment (kept private).

Remember, 0% Financing ends 3/31/08 and the Customer Cash ends 4/30/08. print this article Posted By Ryan In Buying a Corvette , Corvette News , Corvette Purchase Incentives | 0 Comments Permalink

February Corvette Sales: Not Impressive

Corvette Sales Fall in JanuaryFebruary proved to be yet another difficult month for Corvette sales, and for those dealers that are holding Corvette inventory.  We haven't seen a growth (from the same month last year) in Corvette sales since June of 2007, and even that was by less than 1%.  If we compare January's sales of this year to February's, there is over an 18% decline.  But that's not the worst of it.

What's going on?!  One can only speculate that the sales declines recently could be attributed to both the current economic climate, and the current general climate (aka the weather) in most places.  That still doesn't account for the over 25% decline in sales compared to February 2007.

Here are the details:
  • Corvettes Sold in February 2008:  2,071    (-25.6%)

  • Corvettes Sold in February 2007:  2,784
The market cannot continue to handle the production GM is cranking out without some great incentive programs.  Sure, the $2,000 and $3,000 Customer Cash incentives are still available on 2007 models as they have been for 2 months now.  It doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.  Today they have announced another program which might help the 2007 inventory move out, which we'll be posting shortly, but will it be enough?

Let's all hope that March thaws out the snow we have here in Michigan and the seemingly frozen interest Corvette buyers have had recently.

Distribution Details Announced for Limited Edition Z06: We Have At Least 1!

Corvette 427 Z06Great news!  We finally have some information on the distribution method Chevy has decided on for the recently announced 427 Limited Edition Z06.

The first 427's will be available to order tomorrow, March 6th.  Here's the kicker... Dealers with 27 or more total Corvette sales will be awarded at least one Z44.

We are one of the elite dealers that will have a 427 Z06 available tomorrow to order!  If you are interested in placing a deposit on the order we have coming available, call us immediately at (888) 875-0728 or leave a comment (kept private) and we will get you all the information you need.

There will be two DOSP cycles that will be open for ordering of the Z44 constraint:  the first being tomorrow and the second being March 20th.

Also to note is that the Z44 constraints will not be protected and no 427 Limited Edition pattern orders will be generated to fulfill allocations. Therefore, any Z44 constraints not utilized by the originally assigned dealer will be made available to any dealer with Z06 allocation during subsequent DOSP cycles.  That's extremely unlikely to happen.

New Corvette Incentive Announced

GM LogoBREAKING NEWS!  CorvetteBlog is proud to be the first Corvette-related blog to report the new GM incentive on 2007 Corvettes including Z06's!

The program is based on GM owner loyalty.  If you are owner or lessee of a 1999 or newer GM car, truck or SUV, you qualify for an additional $1,000 off a 2007 Corvette!  All you need to do is have proof of ownership (like a contract or registration).  This incentive program is also transferable within the household, so even if the vehicle isn't in your name but you live at the same address as the owner, you qualify!

The Red Tag Bonus Cash on 2007 Corvettes that was set to expire on Jan 2nd has been carried over until March 3rd.  So assuming you qualify for the incentive, you can now receive up to $3,000 off a 2007 Coupe, $4,000 off a 2007 Convertible with the current programs and for the first time, $1,000 off a 2007 Z06!!

The Loyalty Incentive ends on January 31st!  So take advantage now of the remaining 2007 Corvette inventory.

Lucky for CorvetteBlog readers, we still have 2 2007 Corvettes remaining in our inventory that we will discount with the new programs and ALSO give all of our CorvetteBlog readers the GM Supplier Discount!  Call us now at (888) 875-0728 for more information.  Here are the details on each:

December Corvette Sales & 2007 Sales Figures

Corvette Sales DownDecember sales figures are in for new 2007 and 2008 Chevrolet Corvettes, and again they are below sales levels from last December.  The good news is that Corvette gained about 500 more units over November, most likely due to GM's Red Tag Sale.

Here are the figures for December:
  • December 2007 Sales:  2,914  (-5.4%)
  • December 2006 Sales:  3,081
To remind readers, the Corvette has not seen a single month sales increase from 2006 figures since June of 2007!

Here are the figures for the year 2007, where Corvette had declined in sales nearly 8%:
  • Total Sales in 2007:  33,685  (-7.8%)
  • Total Sales in 2006:  36,518
We can only hope that with the introduction of the 2009 Corvette ZR1 we'll see some real growth in the year ahead.  We'll hope that there are no more price increases before the rest of the 2009 Corvette line up is released, too.

ZR1 Pricing: It's Anyone's Guess

2009 Corvette ZR1A lot of speculation is out there right now about the pricing structure of the new 2009 Corvette ZR1We reported the price is supposedly set at about $100,000.  GM hasn't released any information on the final price, and we don't expect that to come for a while yet.  Some have speculated we could see pricing around $125,000, as well.

The real question becomes: what will dealers charge?  The production will be very limited, we know that.  Based on other vehicles such as limited edition Pace Cars, and the very limited Ron Fellows Edition from last year, dealers were charging over sticker then.  Imagine a vehicle with the raw power and mass-appeal such as the ZR1 being released. Given the expected brutal impact of the recent energy laws out of the U.S. Congress, what might this supercar go for at the beginning of production?

Peter De Lorenzo of AutoExtremist.com recently wrote his prediction of a price approaching $200,000!  We can't imagine the price going that high, but it does spark the question.  We've included Peter's comments after the jump.

We are accepting deposits for 2009 ZR1's now at CorvetteBlog.com, but like other dealers out there, have yet to establish our pricing policy.  If you are interested in learning about a deposit, feel free to give us a call at (888) 875-0728.

Stay tuned to CorvetteBlog.com for complete and breaking information on the 2009 Corvette ZR1, especially pricing details!

Weekly 2008 Corvette Constraints

C6 Corvette LogoAs always, we at CorvetteBlog have the latest constraints straight from General Motors.  This week is a little different given the Christmas Holiday.  Dealers will be able to place orders between today and January 5th because of the 2 week GM shutdown.  The final day for configurations to be edited for this order cycle will be January 7th.

2008 Corvettes that are ordered this week have the last Target Production Period (TPP) of 2007, being January 28-February 3, 2008.

If you're looking to order a new 2008 Corvette, there are NO constraints.  If  you're looking for a 2008 Corvette Z06 there are also NO constraints.

If you're looking to order a new 2008 Corvette or Z06, let us know by leaving a comment (kept private) or by giving us a call at (888) 875-0728!  We are Taking Deposits Now and have allocation available this week to order exactly what you want.  We can drop ship to the Museum or anywhere in the US!

3rd Corvette Price Increase Announced

GM LogoNever did we think we'd be writing about a third price increase this year on 2008 Corvettes.  Unfortunately, GM announced today that it is raising prices on a majority of its vehicles, including Corvette Coupes, Convertibles, and now Z06's as well.  In addition to the price increase on the base vehicle prices, they are also increasing the destination charge on Corvettes to $850.

One would think this is pretty counterintuitive given GM's declining sales of Corvettes over the past year, but who ever said that GM was intuitive to begin with?

It is important to note, if you have ordered from CorvetteBlog, you are price protected against the increase.  If you are ordering from another dealer and they have not marked your order as sold or a "SRE" unit (the code for sold vehicle orders) then you are not protected.  These orders are called "TRE" orders, so you may want to check with the dealer who you've ordered your Corvette from to assure you aren't facing the new pricing.

So here's the details on base pricing of each model:
  • Corvette Coupes:  $46,950
  • Corvette Convertibles:  $55,425
  • Corvette Z06s:  $72,125
If you have any questions about your order through CorvetteBlog, feel free to contact us direct at (888) 875-0728.  If you're looking to order a Corvette in the future, deal with someone you can trust:  CorvetteBlog.com.

November Corvette Sales Continue Decline

Corvette Sales DownNovember sales figures are in for the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette and they aren't pretty.  Even as GM raises the price of the coveted Coupes and Convertibles, sales decline.

Here are the figures:
  • November 2007 Sales:  2,438  (-12.1%)
  • November 2006 Sales:  2,773
In fact, as surprising as it may seem, the Corvette has not seen a single month sales increase from 2006 figures since June!  In fact, Calendar year to date figures for the Vette still have the pace 8% off from the same time last year.

One must wonder why GM feels that it needs to increase prices at a time like this, not to mention not including the 08 Vettes in the Red Tag Sale promotion that continues to roll-on to lackluster results.

Winter Storage for Your Brand New Corvette

Many Corvette owners diligently work to protect their love, whether it be Coupe, Convertible, or Z06, from ever being rained on, or (perish the thought) snowed on!

Yet, countless Corvette dealers in the United States make no effort to protect the cars in their inventory from wind, rain, sleet, and snow.  Does this not seem outrageous?

The parent company of CorvetteBlog (George Matick Chevrolet) not only protects its inventory from the ravages of weather by keeping all Corvettes, new and used, indoors, they also offer a unique service to those purchasing a new Corvette.

Call it nothing fancier than Corvette Storage, but consider the advantages if you buy or lease a new Corvette from George Matick Chevrolet: Continue Reading print this article Posted By Bill Connell In 2008 Corvettes , Buying a Corvette , Corvette Dealers | 1 Comments Permalink

Corvette Announced as Best Sports Car Deal in November

IntelliChoiceIntelliChoice.com, a great internet source for information on new and used cars, comes out every month with their "Best Deals of the Month" list.  The list features the best ownership cost value in 33 respective classes.

According to their press release, selections are based on current car pricing, market conditions and the lowest national manufacturer consumer new car rebate.

This month, the Chevrolet Corvette was named Best Sports Car Deal in November.  With the recently announced rebates for the Red Tag Sale, we aren't surprised.  Now is the time to take advantage of Corvette ownership.

Corvette Z06 Named Tops in Resale Value

Kelley Blue Book (KBB) announced their 2008 Vehicle Residual Value Analysis.  Kelley is well known for being THE source for vehicle values for dealers and more recently for the public with their great online tools.  Every year they come out with their list of vehicles that retain  their value the best in a number of categories.  The analysis is based on 2008 vehicles only with projected values in five years.

This year, the 2008 Chevrolet Z06 comes in tops in the High Performance Car category.  This means that of all high performance cars out there, the Z06 is projected to retain its value the best.  Great news for Corvette owners looking to sell their Z06 down the line.

Here's what Kelley said about the Z06:  "Replace the standard Corvette's 430-horsepower V8 with a 505-horsepower V8---an engine hand-assembled by a single technician---and you've got what many consider the best of the best in American sports cars. The added power is managed by a reworked suspension that delivers improved handling with very little sacrifice in highway ride comfort."

For a list of all of the vehicles and categories, click on the link below.  Also, don't forget our special Z06 sale going on now at Corvette Blog!

Two Exciting New Corvette Options Coming Soon

CorvetteBlog is ahead of the curve on this one: two as yet unannounced options are coming for new 2008 Corvettes!

The first is coded VPK and described as the Limited Personalization Exterior Package.  The package includes: screen mesh package, body color rear license plate frame, underhood blanket and lamp kit, exterior graphics, vehicle cover, racing C6 or Z06 design spoiler, and chrome or body color door handles.

The second package is coded VPL, is described as the Limited Personalization Ultimate Package, and includes everything in VPK plus either seven spoke chrome or fifteen spoke polished wheels.

Still unknown is the pricing, the time of availability, and what some of these items actually look like.  The good news is that the packages are described on Chevrolet dealer accessible websites, so answers should be coming soon.

Please stand by.  CorvetteBlog will break further news as it comes.

Rent a Corvette

I just received a call from a CorvetteBlog reader who inquired as to where to rent a Corvette.  It occurred to me that since I get this question about once a year, and since I know the answer, I should probably write my answer for others who didn't think to ask it (yet anyway).

Reasons to rent a Corvette are many:

a special car for a special birthday or anniversary

a special car to drive in the Woodward Dream Cruise or to another Corvette venue like America's Corvette Show, Corvettes at Carlisle, Corvette Funfest, or Bloomington Gold

a vehicle to rent for an extended 'test drive' to check out Corvette equipment, and think through which options would work best on the car one intends to buy

For those who wish to rent a Corvette (or some of its competition), there is actually a website that lists companies that provide this service nationally: ExoticCarRentalDirectory.com.

In Michigan, there is only one company that provides this service: Classic Auto Rentals in Birmingham.  By the way, they also have pre-owned Corvettes for sale.  Their phone is 248.258.6560.

The Corvette Factory Website has final loaded all the color information you will probably need to pick out your new Corvette on-line or order it for National Corvette Museum delivery.  A number of Corvette enthusiasts have told me that they were simply frustrated with the lack of factory info on colors, but not to worry, it's all there now!

Log on to www.chevrolet.com/corvette and then select the "Colors and 360 Degree" tab.  You will be able to rotate the car and see it in all of the Exterior colors.

To view interiors, click on the Interior tab just above "Models" and "Colors".  Then click on the color chip of your choice, and you will see that color (or those colors) shown on an actual Corvette seat.

Very nicely done, Chevy!  Wish we'd had it for the last four months, though.  By the way, our parent company has at least one of every exterior color currently in stock.  Send an email to bill@corvetteblog.com or call 1-888-875-0728 for additional info.  Inquiries are kept confidential.

National Corvette Museum Delivery Experience: the Bob Parrin Story

This CorvetteBlog is a special treat, for it is written by another of the Completely Satisfied Corvette customers to buy through our parent company, George Matick Chevrolet, and also participate in the National Corvette Museum Delivery program.

The words of Bob and Kitty Parrin of Indiana when they took delivery of their new Crystal Red Metallic 2008 Corvette Convertible in October:

Back to the future.  That pretty much describes our trip to Bowling Green for the delivery of our 2008 C6 Convertible.

Yes, it felt like the 1960’s all the way around, but in 21st century style.  Back to a time when cars were fun and exciting.  Think Mini Coopers and mid-year Corvettes.  Cars of my dreams.  Fortunately automakers have given us modern versions of these classics.

Terry Michaelis Shares Tips on Buying a Pre-Owned Corvette

We will soon be in the midst of the winter automobile auction season, and Corvettes available for purchase will be in abundance.  Writing in a recent newsletter from ProTeam Corvettes, Terry Michaelis makes these recommendations if you are considering purchase of a Corvette at any of the upcoming auctions:

(1)  Prior to purchasing any Corvette, create a pre-purchase inspection list, and make sure to include VIN tags and attachments; a title matching the VIN tag; an original body/trim tag; the Corvette's body and frame; engine stamp, casting numbers and dates; and documentation.  This small step goes a long way to making your Corvette buying experience seamless.

(2)  Buy the best Corvette you can afford today, because the Corvette you buy is the Corvette you'll have, or want to sell some day.

(3)  Buy cosmetics - buy paint and chrome, unless you have a shop and knowledge to control your costs.

2008 Corvette Price Increase Announced

Chevrolet has announced an interim price increase for the 2008 Corvette effective October 5th, 2007.  The adjustment is small, but still worth noting.

  • 2008 Corvette Convertibles increase $245
If you have an order waiting to be produced with GM, don't worry!  The new pricing will show on the Monroney sticker (window sticker), but the price will not change.  This is the case with any SOLD orders that have been placed or have an order number with GM.

If you have questions about the pricing changes and your order, please contact your selling dealer, who should be knowledgeable about the change and help you understand any changes to you order. November Dealer Consensus Available

Chevy dealers all across the country have access today to their November Consensus.  For those who don't know what Consensus is, it is the report that Chevy sends to their dealers showing their estimated shipments of vehicles they can order for the following month's production period.

So what does that mean?  Basically it means that dealers know now how many Corvettes and Z06's they have been initially allocated by GM.  The Corvettes and Z06's that are ordered for this consensus period will be produced after November 15th.

Dealers can always ask for additional Corvettes and Z06's for the next week, but it is rare that GM provides any additional units than what they initially allocate.  Consensus is open for dealers until next Friday at which time they must commit to their orders.  We then find out the following Wednesday what has been approved by GM.

CorvetteBlog.com is set to have a great allocation of both 2008 Corvettes and 2008 Corvette Z06's during this period.  If you are interested in purchasing or leasing a new Corvette - give us a call at (888) 875-0728 or post a comment (which will be kept private).  We are proud to offer delivery throughout the United States, at our Corvette Showroom in Detroit, or at the Corvette Museum. print this article Posted By Ryan In 2008 Corvettes , Buying a Corvette , Corvette Dealers , Corvette Production | 0 Comments Permalink

Keith Martin's Corvette Magazine Magazine

Keith Martin's Corvette Market Magazine has been officially launched.  Mike Yager is one of the "movers and shakers" interviewed in the inaugural (Fall 2007) issue, and he made sure the magazine was given significant visibility at last weekend's Corvette Funfest on the premises of Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, Illinois.

Mike introduced Keith next to his beautiful Chevrolet bowtie-shaped swimming pool (see photo past the jump), and then the whole Yager family joined Keith in a ribbon cutting ceremony as Corvette industry leaders gave applause.

Keith seeks to fill a vacuum in the sales and purchase process of Corvettes by providing current market trends, auction results, advice on which models to buy-sell-hold, and advice from movers and shakers in the industry.  Given the explosive growth in pre-owned Corvette sales and the success of the parent magazine, Sports Car Market, a magazine devoted to Corvettes was deemed merited.  A link to this resource will be added to the home page of CorvetteBlog.

New 2008 Corvette Orders Delayed!

If you are in the process of ordering or waiting for a Corvette order to be delivered or produced - read on!

We at CorvetteBlog.com have the exclusive report that for Corvettes ordered within the past few weeks, the Target Production Periods have been shifted forward 1-3 weeks or so (from what we've seen so far).

We now have word from GM production that they have taken over 400 Corvettes out of the production schedule, meaning that everyone who was waiting for a Corvette to be produced has now been pushed out into the future.  Production did not give a reason as to why the production schedule was cut, but one can only assume from the number of stock vehicles on the ground right now that it had something to do with it?

It is imperative that you contact the dealer who you ordered your vehicle through to confirm that you are on schedule, or to find out how your production schedule has been impacted.

  • 2006 Corvettes:  81 Available Nationally

  • 2007 Corvettes:  4,451 Available Nationally

  • 2008 Corvettes:  3,116 Available Nationally

Tips for Finding a Collectible Corvette from Jay Leno

Although Jay Leno doesn't mention Corvettes in his article "Hidden Treasures" in Popular Mechanics, the advice would likely work for classic Corvettes, too.  1951 Hudson Hornet collector Jay's advice:

"The best advice I can give is to find the oldest garage or gas station in your town.  Go talk to the owner.  Ask him if he has customers who haven't been in for a long time.  Do they have an interesting car?

"If you like old things, I recommend that you talk to old guys.  Seek them out.  They were all young guys once.  And a lot of them don't have any family left; they just want to see the love of their life, the car they were always going to restore — but never got around to — go to a good home."

The whole article can be found in the July 2007 print issue of Popular Mechanics, or on the web.

As GM celebrates the July 4th holiday, dealers get a 2 week hiatus from ordering vehicles.  This includes the 2008 Corvette, which as of now, cannot be ordered again until Thursday, July 19th.  Dealers are given Thursday, Friday and Saturday to place orders and then the following Tuesday to confirm and make any necessary changes to those orders.

Currently listed constraints are as follows:
  • 4LT Option Level Package
(They expect this to be constrained through August at the earliest)

  • Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat
(Only 10% of National Quantity is available, should increase within 4 weeks)

  • 3LZ Option Level Package for Corvette Z06
(They expect this to be constrained through August at the earliest)
As soon as the break is over, dealers will be ordering from their July consensus allocation and we hope to have a great number of 2008's to order.  We have one here now, three on the way and one Z06 coming down the pipe as well.

Should you be interested in placing an order or deposit for an upcoming allocation, simply let us know by commenting or calling us at (888) 875-0728.  You won't be disappointed!

Awesome 2006 Corvette Incentives Announced!

Chevrolet has announced the best incentives to date on the remaining 404 2006 Corvettes around the country.  From now until July 9th, buyers will receive 0% financing for up to 60 months AND a $1,000 Rebate

We haven't seen 0% for 60 months for a long time.  Of course you can still opt for 0% for 36 and 48 months as well.  Heck, you can even finance for 72 months at 1.9% and still take the $1,000 dollars and run.  These rates are of course, with approved credit.

Like we said, reportedly there are only 404 '06 Corvettes remaining in dealer inventories!  Unfortunately (or fortunately you could say), we have been sold out for nearly 4 months.  If you do happen to grab one of these awesome deals, snap a photo and email us.  We'll post a story about you.

Official announcement after the jump. Continue Reading print this article Posted By Ryan In Buying a Corvette , Corvette News , Corvette Pricing , Corvette Purchase Incentives | 4 Comments Permalink

Classic 1953 Corvette At Auction with No Reserve

A rare 1953 Corvette will be sold tomorrow at an auction in Lapeer, Michigan.  The "no reserve" auction is being handled by RM Auctions on the grounds of the home of John McMullen, longtime successful Pontiac dealer.

McMullen is drastically trimming his world class collection of some 140 cars to less than a dozen of the world's best automobiles.  The Corvette joins two early Thunderbirds, a 1931 Duesenberg Model J, a 1934 Packard Twelve Convertible Victoria (shown), and many others.

The 9AM auction is open to the public in exchange for the purchase price of the $80 catalogue (which admits two).

Cosmetics Important in Purchase of Pre-Owned Corvettes

Experts on pre-owned Corvette ownership recommend that pre-owned Corvettes be selected for purchase with a strong bias toward the "cosmetics" unless the purchaser can do hands-on cosmetic repair himself or herself.

In an article entitled "Corvette Buying 101" seven critical recommendations for buying a pre-owned Corvette are given.  Consider them carefully:

Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat to go away for Corvette

According to a memo recently received by new Chevrolet Corvette dealers, Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat (80U) is being discontinued.

The final date for order submission in this color is April 7, 2007.  If that's the color you want, you do not have much time to order.

The memo indicates that a replacement color will be made available at the beginning of 2008 Model Year production.

New Corvette Callaway C16

And while we remain in awe of the beautiful Corvette inspirations from n2a Motors (the 789) and Advanced Automotive Technologies (the 50th Commemorative Edition) about which we’ve written this week, check into this marvelous option.

The 2007 Callaway C16 not only offers a gorgeous alternative body for the Corvette lover, it provides amazing performance right now. Right now, as in not needing to wait for the factory’s promised Corvette SS a couple of summers from now.

Callaway’s association with Corvette goes back some thirty years, and these folks are expert in every area of endeavor.

Check our Blog another time (or subscribe to Corvette Blog today) and you will soon see photos of a selection of great Callaway Corvettes that I recently saw at the National Corvette Museum. We are talking legendary vehicles!

Considerations When Buying a Used Corvette

The Corvette Action Center is a great repository of information.  This article on purchasing a pre-owned Corvette gives a great overview of the subject.

Buying your first Corvette can be a difficult task if you're not sure what to look for. You've heard all the terms ("matching numbers", "body-off restoration", "frame-off restoration" etc), but you're not sure what they mean. Our goal here is to provide you with a little bit of knowledge before you go into the Corvette buying world and to supply you with a handy check list of items that you may want to check out the Corvette that you're interested in purchasing. Depending on options, some of the items on the list may or may not apply to the particular Vette that you're looking at. Hopefully, we've compiled a fairly broad enough array of items to look at that will cover just about all Corvette model years.

Corvette Deal or No Deal?

Are you a big fan of NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” television show with Howie Mandel? If so, you know that when Howie says, “Deal or No Deal?” to a contestant, it is time to make a decision.

Likewise, if you are a fan of incentive cash from the factory, you already know about the $750 Bonus Cash that Chevrolet recently put on certain C6 Corvettes for a limited time only.

However, you may not know that a select number of Chevrolet dealers are now able to take advantage of an additional program that raises total rebates to $1500. At these dealerships, this effectively makes the C6 the most affordable it has ever been!
