The Ultimate Prize: 36 Vintage Corvettes
Imagine a complete set of 36 Chevrolet Corvettes ranging from 1953 until 1989… all neglected in a dark, dingy apartment basement covered in inches of dust and damaged with flat tires and sagging convertible tops.
Well, for years that’s just where Pop Art icon, Peter Max, chose to store his collection of vehicles for an on-hold art project. Max originally purchased the collection of vehicles from Mr. Amodeo, who had won them as a prize from a 1989 VH1-sponsored contest!
Yes, at that time, VH1 was heavily competing with sister network, MTV. In an attempt to attract an older audience, freelance television producer for VH1, Jim Cahill, pulled together this promotion which “had to be big, but the theme of it had to resonate with baby boomers.”
Cahill brainstormed the perfect baby boomer prize – Corvettes! After gaining the approval from top execs, Cahill purchased the 36 vehicles in 1988. “I got to shop for all the Corvettes that I’d always wanted,” he said. “We actually assembled them pretty quickly.”
Fortunately for VH1, the promotion was a huge success, creating nationwide buzz and enticing 1.3 million callers to enter the contest by calling into a call-in number.
As for now, the collection of Corvettes has been relocated to a building in Upper Manhattan – just waiting for their next move or art debut…

A Four-Door Corvette?
Some argue that if you increase the amount of doors on the Corvette from 2 to 4, you lose the Corvette’s sports ride identity. Let me try to help you understand the evolution of the four-door Corvette idea…
With the arrival of the four-door Caprice Police Patrol vehicle to North America in 2011, what will come next?
Well, GM’s Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has been busy with this very question. He has, however, had his eyes on Australia’s Holden Commodore. The perfect successor to the Caprice just may be the Commodore Police Cruiser. This is great for the police force, but what about the everyday driver?
Enter the potential idea of a four-door Corvette! Therefore, the four-door Corvette model stemmed from the Australian Holden Commodore.
What do you think about the potential for a four-door ‘Vette? Is GM wasting their time, or possibly onto something? Tell us your thoughts.

Lingenfelter's Supercharged ZR1
Lingenfelter Performance Engineering of Decatur, Indiana has been around for over 30 years specializing in the performance engineering industry. Just this past December, the company achieved altering the fastest Corvette ever produced to go even faster.
After multiple altercations and LS9 supercharged enhancements, Lingenfelter’s 2009 Corvette ZR1 was ready to hit the Maryland International Speedway on the morning of December 7, 2009. Results?
First quarter-mile in 9.813 seconds at speeds of 145.74 miles per hour!!
The results blew everyone away, and can be attributed to the supercharger upgrades that included: cast aluminum air intake, 11-rib pulley, 11-rib harmonic balancer, upgraded air filter, four-inch diameter intake tube with mass air sensor and ported throttle body. Other modifications were made to the heat exchanger, intercooler reservoir, wheels and fuel system.
To see this baby in action, check out the video after the jump. Imagine sitting behind that steering wheel… Talk about adrenaline rush!

Blackforce One?
LOMA Performance just recently unveiled their newest edition, the Blackforce One Corvette.
Okay, so the name is a bit gimmicky. Yes.
The actual vehicle, however, is a different story. Made out of a C6-based twin-turbocharged engine, this Corvette can reach up to 783 horsepower. With a whopping 666 horsepower coming from the rear wheels, this machine can make it to top speeds of 205 mph, giving it only 3.4 seconds to hit the 100 km mark.
Carbon-ceramic disc brake replacements and upgrades to suspension, exhaust, tires, wheels and other elements make this vehicle hard to come by. In fact, only 25 of these vehicles will ever be produced.
Check out the video after the jump.

Amphibious Vehicle with a Rear-Vette?
So when you combine the front-end of a truck and the rear-end of a Corvette, you get the fastest amphibious vehicle ever! Go figure.
The latest amphibious vehicle breaking world records is the Python. Though the vehicle only gets up to 100 mph on land, it can simply transform into boat-mode at the click of a button. Give her 4.5 seconds and she can get up to 60 mph in the water!
Built on a Dodge truck frame, the vehicle is built with rolling chassis that each contain lightweight stainless steel. The engines: a Dominator Jet for boat mode and any LS-series engine for car mode.
The interior is built much like a boat with bucket seats up front and seating that wraps around in the rear. Of course, the doors are built to secure that the water stays out.
Each Python is hand-built one at a time. To order, you must first join the waiting list and drop $5,000 for a deposit…. But that’s hardly damage when the chassis alone costs $170,000. The Python can reach up to $200,000 depending entirely on the choice of Corvette engine!
Check out the Python in action as it hits the waters of Lake Havasu in Arizona after the jump.

Geiger Modifies the ZR1
Geiger Cars, a German tuning company specializing in modifying American cars and trucks, recently got their hands on the Corvette ZR1. Not only did they transform its name to “Geiger GTS”, but added a host of amenities that increased the vehicle’s performance, speed, appearance and power.
Geiger started by upgrading the vehicle’s interior powerhouse. After adding an additional 63 horsepower, the vehicle is able to output an overwhelming 710 horsepower! Torque increased from 607 to 677 ft-lbs. These minor bumps in numbers allow this GTS to reach 100 km/h at 3.6 seconds, registering at top speeds of 212.5 mph.
The exterior has also undergone a dramatic change. With so much power, the wheels have been replaced with racing wheels, measuring 10” x 19” fronts and 12” x 20” rears. New body panels, custom nose/tail parts and side sill extensions are all incorporated underneath three coats of mother of pearl white paint. The black detailed paint and wheels really make this vehicle’s look pop.
Nice work, Geiger Cars!

Win a Collector's Corvette Grand Sport
In celebration of the National Corvette Museum’s 15th anniversary, the museum is raffling off an Artic White Corvette Grand Sport… Not just an ordinary Corvette either.
The Grand Sport painted in all white with a red-stripped, black hood will showcase Corvette Racing’s mascot, Jack. In honor of this memorable raffle prize, the museum has also added the NCM official logo to the car’s B-pillar.
With a six speed manual transmission, the vehicle also comes equipped with dual mode exhaust as well as a ZR1 rear spoiler. “You can summarize the car this way,” Tadge Juechter, Chief Engineer of the Corvette said, “Zero to sixty in four seconds; 26 miles a gallon.”
Since each raffle ticket costs a pretty penny ($150 each), the NCM has decided to only offer out 2,009 raffle tickets in total, giving participants a good chance of winning. Even if you don’t take home the collector’s Corvette Grand Sport, second place winner receives $10,000 and third place will win $5,000. Not to bad if you ask me!
Tickets for the raffle are still available by simply clicking below. You only have until Sunday, September 6th at 10 a.m. before the winning tickets are picked!

And You Thought The ZR1 was Hot....
Hennessey Performance Engineering recently unveiled the next step up from the ZR1… the 2010 Hennessey ZR700.
To build the ZR700, HPE has taken the ZR1 and enhanced it to become lighter, faster and more powerful. Instead of 638 horsepower, the Z700 comes equipped with 705 dyno-tuned horsepower. The replacement of carbon fiber seats, carbon fiber and Michilin Pilot Cup Sport wheels were all modified to make the overall vehicle weigh less. Z-Aero carbon fiber splinter, canards and a rear spoiler were also added as aero enhancement additions to account for 300lbs. of downforce.
The real test comes later this year when HPE plans to travel to Germany with the ZR700 and complete the Nurburgring lap time in 7:26. Will the ZR1 really have a chance?
A minimum of 24 ZR700s will ever be produced. The cost… $207,150. (This price also includes a day’s worth of performance driving instruction on HPE’s very own Lonestar Motorsports Park.)
Can the ZR1 handle the ZR700? Does it even compare? What do you think?

Introducing STS ZR7 Corvette
After the introduction of the ZR1, Rick Squires was provoked to turn his dream into a reality. He had always wanted to build a limited-edition STS Corvette. Now, more than ever, he had the motivation to build such a dependable, everyday ride while also dishing out stiff competition to the ZR1.
A car enthusiast himself, Rick Squires, founder and VP of research and development at STS, chose to produce a handful of these vehicles in order to entice potential customers away from the almighty ZR1.
And so the ZR7 was born.
This name was not only chosen as a close replication to the competition, but also to symbolize the vehicle’s features. ‘Z’ for the history of high-performance GM vehicles, ‘R’ for the racing suspension and power delivery, ‘7’ for the vehicle’s 700+ horsepower status.
Fortunately for Squire and his hardworking team, production of the ZR7 squeezed right in hours before the 2008 SEMA, where the vehicle was formally introduced. "The body was designed and fabricated, finished and painted in six days," Squires explains. “The turbo system, suspension, brakes, radiator, and so on were all finished in an 18-hour blitz at STS Turbo."
Click below to read more about the long production period and the multiple changes made to the interior and exterior of Squires’ ZR7.
Do you think the STS ZR7 has a chance when compared to the ZR1?

n2a Motors Diversified Portfolio
Founded only 5 years ago, n2a Motors artistically modifies Corvette models into even hotter, sportier rides. Their motto declares that they recreate “no two [Corvettes] alike” for each of their customers.
To date, the company has transformed the original C6 Corvette chassis into three unique Corvette models: 789, Anteros and the Stinger.
The Stinger alone, which is n2a’s latest model, takes a great deal of work and time to rebuild. Just the process of installing the Stinger’s new carbon-composite body takes over 800 hours! The interior of the vehicle is not ignored either, as it is completely restored with wool and leather features.
The Stinger incorporates the close bodystyle replicas of both the ZR1 and Z06.
- The ZR1-based Stinger comes with a 638 horsepower LS9 engine. This engine allows the vehicle to climb to top speeds of 205+ and reach 0 to 60 seconds in 3.4 seconds. Serial numbers 001-003 are reserved for this vehicle.
- The Z06-based Stinger is equipped with a 505 horsepower engine which allows it to travel from 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds. Not too shabby. Serial numbers 004-010 stand reserved for this model.
n2a Motors will only continue to succeed as they expand and diversify their already successful Corvette portfolio. Look for the Stinger to hit production lines October 1st.

Barrett-Jackson Corvettes Recap
Barrett Jackson visited us all again for another year during the middle of January 2009. As you may recall last year at Barrett Jackson, the big hype was placed on the $1,000,000 auction sale of a brand new 2009 ZR1 Corvette.
This year’s Scottsdale automobile auction brought about an older array of Corvette sales. Tuesday’s bidding began with the auctioning off the hot 1990 Corvette ZR-1, equipped with an active suspension. This vehicle was a crucial tool that GM engineers utilized to demonstrate hydraulic suspension systems. Only fifteen of the 1990 ZR-1’s were ever built, and the one that was auctioned off is one of two that is still in existence. “It’s a very important car to us,” claims retired GM engineer, Bob Johnson, who worked on the active-suspension project. “It’s a very, very sophisticated car.” The ZR-1 was auctioned off for $150,000.
Then, there was the 1989 DR-1, a convertible ZR-1 prototype, which dates back to the C4 Corvette era. This ‘Vette was the top seller out of the Corvette clan, and was auctioned off for $286,000. The 1989 ZR-1 Coupe press car, brought in a pretty penny too, selling for $198,000. Rick Hendrick was in attendance at the auction and paid up on yet another 1989 ZR-1 Coupe for $176,000.
The ZR-1s, however, were not the only type of Corvettes at the auction. Check out the complete list after the jump.
Though no Corvettes raised close to one million at this year’s Barrett Jackson, the above auctioned off vehicles prove that the Corvette heritage collection still has GOT IT!

The Centennial Comes to Life?
The Transformers movie sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, is set to hit movie theaters come June 26, 2009. To go along with the movie’s release, General Motors plans on creating an actual tangible Corvette Centennial to help celebrate GM’s 100th anniversary within the automotive industry.
In an attempt to market the Transformers movie to younger viewers, rumor also has it that transformer toy robots will be created and available within stores nationwide before the movie’s release date. These robots are just another way to create hype for the viewers about the upcoming Transformer movie. Of these robots, Sideswipe, one of the Transformer characters, is said to convert out of the Centennial Corvette concept vehicle. Pretty cool!
Stay tuned to hear more abut the upcoming flick and other rumors we may encounter before June 26th.

Pure Hennessey
Imagine the outcome when combining two of the hottest Chevrolet vehicles of our time. Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE), a company notorious for their vehicle performance enhancements, envisioned such an initial super car combo. They put together the supercharged Corvette ZR1 power with the stunning good looks of the new 2010 Camaro. And, the ultimate product came into being… the 2010 HPE700 Camaro.
This super car clearly stands out against any competition with all the various special additions it comes accustomed with, both down the alley of power and looks. Its supercharged LS9 V8 engine has been enhanced to produce up to 705 horsepower and 717 lb-ft torque. The body too is upgraded, composed of carbon fiber with ground effects and a see-through hood. The HPE700’s suggested retail price includes a one-day drivers training course at Lonestar Motorsports Park, asking price of $109,500.
Exclusive sales offers will be given to 2009 Barrett Jackson car enthusiast bidders first. Otherwise, orders open to the general public will begin as early as January 19, 2009. For over $109,000, would this vehicle be worthy of holding a spot within your garage?

INNOTECH's Re-Introduction
INNOTECH, a small Czech automobile manufacturer, originally aired its debut vehicle, the Mysterro, over nine years ago. Though the company planned to produce over 20 Mysterros, only one was actually ever built.
Now after nine years of hush-hush, INNOTECH is back with an upgrade alternative to the C6 Corvette. Italian-inspired, the C6 endured many changes to the bodywork, wheels, suspension, brakes, and engine. Check out the pictures by clicking on the link below! Additionally, their version of the vehicle’s engine was tweaked so it is able to run smoothly off of E85 ethanol.
"INNOTECH Corvettes are real life super car daily drivers which can also handle weekend track days for pure enjoyment of shear power and speed,” claims the company. Simply stated, this upgraded C6 is fully comprised of three country’s work: American-car, Italian-inspired, Czech-produced.
Upgrade plans for the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are considered future endeavors for this Czech car company. Stay tuned!

On Patrol at the Woodward Dream Cruise
It's hard to believe it's been a month already since the 14th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise. The outdoor cruise spans every year from Pontiac to Ferndale in Michigan, attracting millions of people to sit along the street to catch a glimpse of over 30,000 cool cruising cars. From muscle cars to custom-built cars to historic street rods, this enjoyable event allows one to see any and all variations of transportation as it has been changing throughout history.
A few of Royal Oak’s police vehicles really captured quite a bit of attention with their special Corvette rides. The first was a Jetstream Blue Metallic Corvette Z06 with sirens atop and POLICE painted across the side doors. But even better yet, their newest addition cop car is an Atomic Orange Corvette ZR1!
This vehicle is a powerful, impressive ride, though it only crept along at slow speeds so spectators could “ohhh” and “ahhh” at its stunning sight. These two go fast machines were in full patrol this past weekend. For all you go fast gurus, hopefully you were abiding to the law, and not speeding or burning that rubber!

100 Years Brings GM to Reveal the Corvette Centennial
Well folks, it just so happens that the mysterious Corvette look-a-like vehicle that has been seen around the set of the Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen, has recently been revealed! It is the Corvette Centennial Design Concept, specifically built to commemorate General Motor’s 100-years of successful vehicle manufacturing.
From the looks of the vehicle, it encompasses various strengths of past Corvette designs. It portrays a Camaro-like look to the front grille and large rear fenders with a quad-tip exhaust. What are your thoughts on this concept vehicle? Maybe too futuristic?
Supposedly this vehicle is to debut at Los Angeles’ November Auto Show. In addition, rumors have circulated that this concept car might be a prelude as for what’s to come in 2011, possibly the newest Corvette C7. But, there has been no confirmation on that as of yet.
Let us know your thoughts. We will keep you posted when further updates of this new Corvette Centennial arrive.

Corvette Concept Appears in Transformers 2
If you were a fan of the original Transformers, then you're probably very excited about the upcoming Transformers 2, "Revenge of the Fallen" film that's being shot as we speak. The film will debut next summer and while the Camaro concept got the main attention in the last film, a possible Corvette concept could be making waves in this sequel. It appears that the car is getting a paint job in the house of Chip Foose. We can assume that GM will come out sometime before the film and give us the real scoop on what this is (or will be). Considering they used the original Transformers to really promote the Camaro, we'd have to believe they are doing something similar with this vehicle and it's future starring role. C7 anyone?

Jay Leno's E85 Corvette Headlining SEMA Show
Everyone loves when the SEMA show comes up every year. This year is no different, and the big event at the show will be Jay Leno's own ethanol (E85) powered Corvette Z06.This particular eco-friendly Z06 will run on E85 and has a custom 500 cubic inch engine that gives it about 600 horsepower.
Leno is no stranger to loving cars or adapting them for the environment. Last year he launched the EcoJet.
We'll have full coverage of the show and the Corvette's reveal. The SEMA show runs from October 30th-November 2nd in Las Vegas and unfortunately, isn't open to just anyone.

The Real Corvette Story
The GM Press Release dated for release after 11a.m. January 16, 1953 stated that "the General" was about to present six "special and customized cars" to the general public. And special they were!
The six cars were the Cadillac Le Mans, the Cadillac Orleans, the Oldsmobile Starfire, the Buick Wildcat, the Pontiac La Parisienne, and the Chevrolet Courvette. Each of them was to have a "glass fiber reinforced plastic body," and they could be seen at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
All the model names came to be used in GM production vehicles, except Orleans, but of them all only the intrepid Corvette came to have monstrous impact on the automotive world! It is likely that this press release is the only time Corvette was mispelled this way.
This press release an an abundance of other fascinating information is available at carofthecentury.com.

Corvette Dream Cars
Many Corvette enthusiasts, no less sports car fans in general, fail to recognize that over the years there have been dozens of proposed variations of the Corvette! Personally, I remember first reading about the Motorama cars and the futuristic 1959 Corvette XP-700 as a kid, but even then, I didn't realize the variety of proposals being presented.
I recently came across a great trade paperback in a car museum in the Detroit area entitled American Dream Cars. Of course, I took special interest in the the Chevrolet proposals.
Corvette dream cars illustrated and described in American Dream Cars are:
1953 Motorama Corvette
1954 Motorama Corvair
1954 Motorama Nomad
1956 Corvette SR-2
1957 Corvette Super Sport

Automotive Streamlining Exhibit Overlooks Corvette
I have been fascinated with automotive streamlining for decades now, because automotive lines that split through the wind are usually beautiful lines. And certainly, a focus on smooth, wind pleasing curves has always been part of the Corvette mystique!
An impressive exhibit on automotive streamlining is currently available at the Phoenix Art Museum, though only through June 3. Enthusiasts can only hope that such an exhibit will travel to other parts of the world.

Jim Dunne: The Hottest Car in Spy Photography is Corvette
In all likelihood, Jim Dunne is the world's most famous spy photographer of Corvettes. In fact, he is probably the world's most famous spy photographer of any future car or truck.
Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press published an insightful article on this creative genius yesterday. Dunne has been rated higher in his influence in the automotive world than many better known names.
On his "most wanted photography" list currently: GM's upcoming rear-drive sedans and sportscars.
On "the hottest car in spy photography," he says: "Everybody loves the Corvette!"
An informative video of Dunne at work is available at the Freep On-Line.

Spada Codatronca Based on C6 Corvette
Ercole Spada's Spadaconcept Design Studio is launching a limited-edition hand-built sports car based on the Corvette C6's chassis and mechanicals. The Codatronca is the first whole-car product from this studio.
The Codatronca (Italian for "cut tail") is so-called for its sharply-abbreviated rear end. It will be offered in three versions, including the entry level TS Turismo Sportivo and the top-of-the-range Super Turismo Sportivo, with engines ranging in power from 512-700bhp. The top end model is said to be capable of 208mph and 0-60mph in around three seconds.

The Original Corvette Mako Shark Show Car
The Spring Issue of Corvette Quarterly includes superb photos of the original Corvette Mako Shark concept car commissioned by Bill Mitchell. Mitchell was fascinated with sea creatures, and his love for them gave birth to Corvette names like Manta Ray and the ubiquitous Sting Ray.
Also known as the XP-755, this vehicle is considered the missing link between the second generation C2 Sting Ray Corvette and the third, or Shark, generation. Posters of the vehicle are available at ChevyMall.com
