Who's to Blame... Economy or Consumer Interest?

Plain and simple:  last year’s Corvette sales were the worst since 1961.

Yes, this extensive drop may very well be attributed to the current state of the economy (and automotive industry) at large. But, is this decline completely reminiscent of the economy?

After much research, Edmunds’ AutoObserver.com thinks it’s a combination of two things: down economy AND loss of consumer interest in sports cars.

In 2008, the Corvette was one of the best selling sports cars around, consuming more than 6% of the sports car market share.

Just last year, the Corvette declined 43.8% in sales! Yes, the economy didn’t help, but should we also place blame on the close competitor – Chevy Camaro? Not according to Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell, who states, “Over 60,000 Camaros were sold last year, and many of the buyers are unlikely to have chosen another sports car in its place had it not been on the market.”

So, maybe this legendary American sports cars’ sales decline can be attributed to a loss in consumer “flair” after all?  What do you think?

GM's May The Best Car Win Campaign

General Motors is finally stepping up to the plate with an innovative program to get conquest customers into the showroom.  If you haven't yet heard, they are offering a 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee through November 30th, 2009.

What this means is that if you take delivery of a new Chevy (say a Corvette for example), you keep it for 30 days and if you don't like it, you have between 31 and 60 days to return it to the dealership you purchased it from.  Chevy (and us) are confident you're going to love the new GM car you choose, and we're standing behind them.

The are a few stipulations to the program, including any negative equity, accessories, service contracts or any other additions that might be to the vehicle's purchase price must be paid for by the customer when they return the vehicle.  In other words, GM isn't picking up your negative equity or your accessories.  Other than that, for the most part, you are free and clear to turn it in.  If you have a payment during the time you have the vehicle (which you will), you need to pay that.  You can't be late in your contract.

If you're interested in more information, you can always call or email us at CorvetteBlog.  If you want to see GM's commercial about the promotion, view it after the jump.

May the Best Car Win.

Fall Car Care Private Offer Announced

GM Goodwrench and GoGM has just launched their semi-annual Car Care promotion they affectionately call Goodwrench & Go. It is a great program, incentivized by GM, to encourage customers to come into dealerships to get oil changes and discounted services for $39.95 or less.

This time around, customers receiving the direct mail piece from GM are offered a $15 discount card that they can use at any GM dealership on a service of $100 or more. In addition, each customer who receives the mail piece will also get a voucher for $750 off on a new 2009 Chevy Vehicle (excluding ZR-1) or $500 off a new 2010 Chevy that can stack with all of our other rebates and incentives except the stand alone APR offers. It's a nice little program and offer for the millions of people that receive the mailing (which should be hitting your mailboxes this week).  You can also transfer the offer to another family member or anyone in the household.

We are offering the program for all of our GM customers, but remember that the published pricing of $39.95 or less does not include Corvettes.  Our Synthetic oil change package is priced at $54.95.

The promotion runs from September 4th until November 2nd at participating dealers.

Current Corvette Incentives & Discounts

We've been taking a lot of calls lately wondering about what discounts are currently available on Corvettes.  That said, we thought we'd take a quick minute to recap all of the current offers that you may qualify for:

2009 Corvettes

  • GM's Open House promotion gives everyone the GM Supplier Discount pricing
  • If you qualify for the GM Employee Discount (GMS), you are eligible for $500 off
  • If you have a Nissan or Infinity in the household (2000 or newer), you are eligible for $1,500 off
  • If the Corvette you're interested in is an "old invoice" unit, or one that has been in a dealer's inventory for a long time, you are entitled to $1,000 off.  There's no way for a consumer to check on those units that qualify, so if you are interested, please contact the selling dealership and inquire about the program.
  • 2009 Corvette ZR1s do not qualify for any of the above programs, except the "Old invoice" program, but most likely none of those would qualify either.

2008 Corvettes

  • $4,000 Customer Cash Rebate is available, or you can take 5.9% financing (with approved credit) for up to 60 months.
  • 0% Financing is available up to 60 months or 3.9% financing up to 72 months (with approved credit), but you give up all of the other rebates available except the GM Open House Supplier Discount Pricing (described below)
  • GM's Open House promotion gives everyone the GM Supplier Discount pricing
  • If you qualify for the GM Employee Discount (GMS), you are eligible for $2,000 off
  • If you have a Nissan or Infinity in the household (2000 or newer), you are eligible for $1,500 off
  • Every 2008 Corvette should qualify as an "old invoice" unit, so you are entitled to $1,000 off.  There's no way for a consumer to check on those units that qualify, so if you are interested, please contact the selling dealership and inquire about the program.

Incentives and Rebates can be confusing.  If we can help at all, please don't hesitate to give one of our staff a call at (888) 875-0728.  Remember we also have a number of 2009 Corvettes & Z06's available, all priced below GM Supplier Pricing.

GMHot off the presses!  GM has now announced another rebate that will run through the end of the month for current GM owners!  If you own or lease any GM product (1999 or newer), you will receive $1,000 Bonus Cash!

This rebate is stackable with all available Bonus Cash and the Spring Car Care rebates (that we mentioned yesterday).  However, it will NOT stack with the APR offer (on the 2008 Corvettes for example).

If you're looking for a new or pre-owned Corvette, give us a call at (888) 875-0728 and we'll be glad to help you.  We are so thankful this Memorial Day weekend for all of our readers and satisfied customers around the United States!

Chevy Memorial Day Sale Announced

Chevy's Memorial Day SaleWell, wouldn't you know that GM has announced their annual "Memorial Day Sale" just 2 days before the actual Memorial Day weekend begins.  The sale this year really doesn't seem to have the 'bang for the buck' as sales in years past.  Perhaps that's because GM is offering 0% financing on many models right now, or perhaps that's because they know a bankrupcy is on the horizon and this is a last ditched effort for quick sales before they announce it.  Either way, the sale this year only improves the deals on 3 models:  the Cobalt, the Impala and the Silverado.  Corvette is left out in the dark.

So let's not waste time talking about the other models when we really only care about Corvettes here on CorvetteBlog.  We thought we take a quick minute to again summarize the current offers that are available:

On 2009 Corvettes:

  • Some of you may be eligible for $500 off with the GM Spring Car Care discount.  There was a mailer that you may have gotten that had the discount as part of it.  If you don't know if you qualify or not, your local dealer can look up your name and address and see if you qualify for the $500 off.  Expires 6/30/09.

  • Some dealers may be using Corvette Bonus Certificates.  This is a program that gives dealers the ability to stack up to 6 $500 certificates on a Corvette sale.  The number of certificates a dealer has is based on a number of factors including current inventory and total Corvette availability.  Expires on 6/1/09.

On remaining 2008 Corvettes:

  • $2000 Bonus Cash is available if you don't take any incentivized financing options.  Expires on 6/1/09.

  • 0% Financing is available with approved credit for up to 60 months, or 2.9% Financing is available for up to 72 months.  Expires on 6/1/09.

  • Again, if you qualified for the Spring Car Care discount (mentioned above), you can stack that with a 2008 Corvette purchase.  Expires 6/30/09.

We have a nice selection of 2009 Corvettes still available for purchase, all priced at below MSRP and GM Supplier Discounts!  For more details on our inventory, you can click the link at the top of CorvetteBlog, or call us direct at (888) 875-0728.  We ship nationally and will pass on all of the savings from Detroit right to you!

New Bowling Green Assembly Plant Downtime Announced

Bowling Green Assembly PlantGM announed that they were planning to reduce production to align with market demand, meaning that many assembly plants will be ideled in the coming weeks so that inventory can catch up with demand.  We've just learned that the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, home to the Corvette, will be one of the most severly impacted plants that GM has.

The plant will be down 9 weeks.  The downtime weeks are as follows:  5/4, 5/11, 6/1, 6/8, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 8/3, 8/10.  These new operating plans have also revised the buildout and startup schedules for the 2009 and 2010 Corvettes.

The new revised buildout for the last 2009 Corvettes will be July 28th, 2009.  The new revised startup for the 2010 Corvettes will be July 29th, 2009.

Keep checking CorvetteBlog.com for any updates related to the Bowling Green Assembly Plant.

Expanded Lease Pull-Ahead Program Announced

GM LogoGreat News Just Announced!  GM has expanded the current Lease Pull Ahead Program from 2 months to 4 months.  That means if you are in a GMAC SmartLease or SmartBuy contract, we will pay up to 5 of your remaining payments if your lease expires no later than 10/31/2009.

Previous to today's announcement, GM was only covering 2 payments, so this is a nice incentive for those of you who have been holding out to have more of your payments waived, or to get out of your lease before you go over mileage.

Also, remember if you're in a lease and purchase a new Corvette, you'll receive $500 in addition to any other incentivized financing or special discounts being offered with GM's Lease to Purchase cash.  **Note, you do not need to purchase to get this discount; you can lease again through a bank such as US Bank.**

If you have any questions about your options, what you might qualify for, or want to price out some payments on a new 2008 or 2009 Corvette, call us today at 888-875-0728 and we'll be glad to help!

Customer Satisfaction Program Announced

Corvette ConvertibleThis morning Chevrolet announced a Customer Satisfaction Program for some 2008 and 2009 Corvette Convertibles.  This is a program similar to a recall but not as formal.  If you're having the problem, and have a vehicle that qualifies, you can have the repair done at no cost by installing a newly designed retainer bracket.  Here's the details...

Certain 2008 and 2009 model year Corvette manual or power roof Convertible vehicles may have a condition in which the fabric roof cover may begin to separate from its retainer bracket near the top edge of the windshield.  When the vehicle reaches speeds of approximately 100 mph or greater, the roof cover could begin to pull away from the retainer bracket and, depending on the speed of the vehicle and duration at that speed, could tear into the rear glass.  If this were to occur, the headliner would remain intact and the roof cover would not separate from the vheicle.

Vehicles Involved:  Only vehicles built within the following VIN breakpoints are involved:

  • 2008 models from VIN breaks: 85117774 through 85135284
  • 2009 models from VIN breaks:  95100002 through 95112678

Dealers will confirm whether your vehicle is eligible for the repair, as not ALL vehicles will be eligible.  GM will send a letter to all customers that are included in this program and all repairs must be made before May 31st, 2010.

A copy of the letter can be found after the jump.

2008 Corvette SavingsNow is the time to take advantage of some very special savings on our remaining 2008 models.  Here's another example of how we can save you thousands!

Our Corvettes are NEVER stored outdoors, and this one has only been driven in our showroom since received from the original ordering dealer (less than 20 miles away).  Here are the details...

The vehicle is a 2008 Corvette Coupe 1LT (Machine Silver Metallic / Ebony) with an MSRP of $53,035.  We are offering the vehicle for the discounted price before taxes of $43,000!  This price assumes you don't take advantage of 0% financing.  If you wanted to take 0% financing, your price would be $47,000 (the $4,000 rebate available doesn't qualify with 0%), which is still a hell of a deal.  Here is a list of the vehicle's options:

  • CC3  Removable Transparent Roof Panel
  • FE9  Federal Emissions
  • F55  Magnetic Selective Ride Control
  • LS3  6.2 Liter 436 HP Engine
  • MX0  6 speed Automatic Transmission with paddle shift
  • NPP  Dual Mode Exhaust
  • QX3  Chrome Aluminum Wheels

This discounted pricing is available this month only!  This is not a demonstrator unit and it only has 21 miles on it.  We will be glad to get you a finalized price including taxes and fees depending on wherever you live and what your tax rate is, in addition to discussing shipping options or VIP delivery here in Detroit, Michigan.

For more information, give us a call at (888) 875-0728 or leave a comment, which will be kept private.  Take a look at all of the pictures of the vehicle after the jump below.

GM's Goodwrench & Go Promotion

Goodwrench & Go PromotionMany of you have probably seen the national advertising GM is doing for their Spring Car Care promotion called GM Goodwrench & Go.  It is a great program, incentivized by GM, to encourage customers to come into dealerships to get oil changes and discounted services for $39.95 or less.

Customers receiving the direct mail piece from GM will be offered a $15 discount card that they can use at any GM dealership.  In addition, each customer who receives the mail piece will also get a voucher for $500 off on a new Chevy Vehicle (excluding ZR-1) that can stack with all 'coof our other rebates and incentives.  It's a nice little program and offer for the millions of people that receive the mailing (which should be hitting your mailboxes this week).

We are offering the program for all of our GM customers, but remember that the published pricing of $39.95 or less does not include Corvettes.  Because Corvettes use synthetic oil the pricing will be higher at dealerships.  Keep that in mind when you think you're going in to get the oil changed on your Vette.

The promotion runs from April 1st until June 30th, 2009 at participating dealers.

March 2009 Corvette Sales Data

What can we really say about March sales?  There is good news amongst the doom and gloom.  With the weather getting nicer in many parts of the country and with incentives (including 0% on 2008 models) helping to move inventory, we can only hope that we have turned the corner and are going to see some additional growth in sales over the coming months.

March saw a 56% decline in sales versus 2008's figures, although there were more Vettes delivered in March than in any month since September of last year.  That's a bonus.  In total, however, 2009 sales since January 1st are still showing a 55% decline against 2008.

Here's the breakdown:

GM Expands Certified Pre-Owned Program

GM Certified Pre-Owned VehiclesAs we all know, car manufacturers are feeling the blunt of the market now with car sales at an all time low. In an effort to appeal more to consumers, General Motors has issued an increased warranty coverage on Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.

This new warranty will come standard on all GM Certified Used Vehicles or Saturn Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles as of September 13th. When a consumer now purchases a certified pre-owned vehicle, the new program offers a 12-month or 12,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty.  This includes all Certified Corvettes.

Now, maybe you’re thinking, what’s bumper-to-bumper mean? Well, the warranty will cover the entire vehicle excluding items that wear down over time and usage, such as tires and brakes. Pretty good deal, if you ask us.

GM also offers a powertrain limited warranty of 5-years or 100,000 miles on all 2007 or later vehicles. This package is exclusive and also provides consumers with 24-hour roadside assistance, free history report on a vehicle, 117-point inspection, and a customer satisfaction guaranteed period.

For further information, click below to learn more about GM Certified Used Vehicles.

You can also check out our current inventory of GM Certified Pre-Owned Corvettes by clicking here.

Change to Corvette Allocation Process for Dealers

ChevyWe received note today that Chevy has announced a change in the allocation process for Corvettes.  In the past, all allocation for dealerships wishing to order Corvettes was based upon a controlled formula that they had come up with.  Now it seems that they are going to revert back to normal ADS allocation.

ADS stands for Available Days Supply.  This means that dealers need to "turn and earn" or the faster you move the Corvettes, the sooner you earn new ones.  The Z06 and ZR1 will not be included in this change, they will stay on the controlled allocation strategy.

Here is breakdown by month of how the allocation strategy will change:
  • July Consensus for Dealers:  25% ADS / 75% Controlled Allocation
  • August Consensus:  50% ADS / 50% Controlled Allocation
  • September Consensus:  75% ADS / 25% Controlled Allocation
  • October Consensus and beyond:  100% ADS

Chevy Memorial Day Sale Announced

Chevy's Memorial Day SaleWell Chevy has stepped up to the plate again today with new national incentives for us Corvette enthusiasts.  While they could have given us more than they have, we can't complain about extra rebates.  The Chevy Memorial Day Sale began today and runs through June 2nd, 2008.

During the sale, Chevy is offering an additional $500 on all 2007 Corvettes remaining in inventory.  That brings the total incentive money on a 2007 Corvette Coupe, Convertible or Z06 to $2,500 or $3,500 respectively.  Chevy is also still offering 0% financing for up to 60 months.

There is no offer on 2008's.  We have one remaining 2007 Corvette in stock, click here for details.

February Corvette Sales: Not Impressive

Corvette Sales Fall in JanuaryFebruary proved to be yet another difficult month for Corvette sales, and for those dealers that are holding Corvette inventory.  We haven't seen a growth (from the same month last year) in Corvette sales since June of 2007, and even that was by less than 1%.  If we compare January's sales of this year to February's, there is over an 18% decline.  But that's not the worst of it.

What's going on?!  One can only speculate that the sales declines recently could be attributed to both the current economic climate, and the current general climate (aka the weather) in most places.  That still doesn't account for the over 25% decline in sales compared to February 2007.

Here are the details:
  • Corvettes Sold in February 2008:  2,071    (-25.6%)

  • Corvettes Sold in February 2007:  2,784
The market cannot continue to handle the production GM is cranking out without some great incentive programs.  Sure, the $2,000 and $3,000 Customer Cash incentives are still available on 2007 models as they have been for 2 months now.  It doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.  Today they have announced another program which might help the 2007 inventory move out, which we'll be posting shortly, but will it be enough?

Let's all hope that March thaws out the snow we have here in Michigan and the seemingly frozen interest Corvette buyers have had recently.

January Corvette Sales Figures

Corvette Sales Fall in JanuaryGM surpassed expectations for sales in January, which is great news.  Would the same be true for the Corvette, given all the hype of the new 2009 Corvette ZR1 and the North American International Auto Show?  The answer:  No.

January isn't normally the strongest month for Vette sales nationally, given the majority of the country is stuck in snow (like us) until late March.  That said, sales of Corvettes were down almost 10% from 2007's figures for January.  Here are the details:
  • Corvettes Sold in January 2008:  2,015    (-9.8%)

  • Corvettes Sold in January 2007:  2,234
We've reported the past two months on the continuing sales declines Corvette has faced, even with the $2,000 and $3,000 incentives GM still has the remaining 2007 models.  Something must be done to spur the Corvette market again, besides introducing new models that will be in limited production.  The coupes and convertibles (and for the matter the Z06's) are still amazing vehicles to be had at an outstandingly low price point.  Perhaps the fear of recession and the housing crisis has made its way into the realm of Corvette sales.  A sad thing to think about, but more realistic than not.

2008 Z06 Allocation Letters Sent Out

2009 Corvettte Z06While all the hype has been on the new 2009 ZR1, we can't forget about our favorite powerhouse Corvette of today, the Z06.  This past week, GM sent letters out to all dealerships who have estimated 2008 Z06 allocation through May, when the 2008 build out occurs.  Did you know many Chevy dealerships across the country aren't even allocated 1 Z06?  Distribution is based on many factors include previous sales and Corvette certification through training and testing of the dealership's staff.

We at CorvetteBlog are proud to report we have quite a few Z06's coming our way over the next few months and, as always, we will offer them to our CorvetteBlog readers first, and at discounted pricing.

Currently, we have 3 2008 Z06's instock ready for delivery.  All three are completely loaded with Nav and Wheels and come in such colors as Black, Victory Red and Jetstream Blue.  All are being offered at discounted pricing, so if you're interested, please contact us by posting a comment (kept private) or by calling us direct at (888) 875-0728. print this article Posted By Ryan In 2008 Corvettes , Corvette Dealers , Corvette News , Corvette Production | 0 Comments Permalink

November Corvette Sales Continue Decline

Corvette Sales DownNovember sales figures are in for the 2008 Chevrolet Corvette and they aren't pretty.  Even as GM raises the price of the coveted Coupes and Convertibles, sales decline.

Here are the figures:
  • November 2007 Sales:  2,438  (-12.1%)
  • November 2006 Sales:  2,773
In fact, as surprising as it may seem, the Corvette has not seen a single month sales increase from 2006 figures since June!  In fact, Calendar year to date figures for the Vette still have the pace 8% off from the same time last year.

One must wonder why GM feels that it needs to increase prices at a time like this, not to mention not including the 08 Vettes in the Red Tag Sale promotion that continues to roll-on to lackluster results.

Winter Storage for Your Brand New Corvette

Many Corvette owners diligently work to protect their love, whether it be Coupe, Convertible, or Z06, from ever being rained on, or (perish the thought) snowed on!

Yet, countless Corvette dealers in the United States make no effort to protect the cars in their inventory from wind, rain, sleet, and snow.  Does this not seem outrageous?

The parent company of CorvetteBlog (George Matick Chevrolet) not only protects its inventory from the ravages of weather by keeping all Corvettes, new and used, indoors, they also offer a unique service to those purchasing a new Corvette.

Call it nothing fancier than Corvette Storage, but consider the advantages if you buy or lease a new Corvette from George Matick Chevrolet: Continue Reading print this article Posted By Bill Connell In 2008 Corvettes , Buying a Corvette , Corvette Dealers | 1 Comments Permalink

November Dealer Consensus Available

Chevy dealers all across the country have access today to their November Consensus.  For those who don't know what Consensus is, it is the report that Chevy sends to their dealers showing their estimated shipments of vehicles they can order for the following month's production period.

So what does that mean?  Basically it means that dealers know now how many Corvettes and Z06's they have been initially allocated by GM.  The Corvettes and Z06's that are ordered for this consensus period will be produced after November 15th.

Dealers can always ask for additional Corvettes and Z06's for the next week, but it is rare that GM provides any additional units than what they initially allocate.  Consensus is open for dealers until next Friday at which time they must commit to their orders.  We then find out the following Wednesday what has been approved by GM.

CorvetteBlog.com is set to have a great allocation of both 2008 Corvettes and 2008 Corvette Z06's during this period.  If you are interested in purchasing or leasing a new Corvette - give us a call at (888) 875-0728 or post a comment (which will be kept private).  We are proud to offer delivery throughout the United States, at our Corvette Showroom in Detroit, or at the Corvette Museum. print this article Posted By Ryan In 2008 Corvettes , Buying a Corvette , Corvette Dealers , Corvette Production | 0 Comments Permalink

Ron Fellows Edition Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Bound For United Arab Emirates

One of only 399 being produced, a Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Championship Corvette Z06 is expected to reach Al Yousuf Motors showroom in the United Arab Emirates in June.

Having written about the Ron Fellows Edition Corvette previously at Corvette Blog several times, the news is that one of these fabulous Z06's is now bound for the Middle East.

Although the Dubai City Guide claimed that Dubai City is now the only city outside of North America to get its hands on the very limited signature series Ron Fellows Corvette Z06, the original announcement from GM was that a total of sixty-six were to be exported (not counting Canada).  Perhaps the distinction is that, while not exclusive, they are first.

Ron Fellows Corvette Z06 Arrives at Dealership

Our parent dealership has just taken delivery of our Arctic White Ron Fellows Corvette Z06. And what a beautiful car this autographed #190 is (out of 399 total being built)!

It arrived in the place of honor behind the cab on the car carrier, safest there from bugs and flying debris. The vehicle had the typical clear stretchwrap on it, and it came with a trunk full of decals, the front splitter, the wheel hubs, etc.

Careful attention was given to prepare it for showroom display behind the stanchions, not too far away from our gorgeous Black and Victory Red Z06’s.

Of course, every Ron Fellows Z06 comes with metric gauging, so some feel that kilometers per hour and miles per liter are there to honor the Canadian roots of racing driver Ron Fellows. I haven’t checked, but the navigational radio probably calls out all the Tim Hortons restaurants across North America, eh?

Massive Corvette Showroom Transformed for School Auction

Once a year, most of the Corvettes in Michigan's largest automobile showroom are removed to attached indoor storage to make room for a school auction!

The "before" photograph  was taken a few years ago, before the C6 Corvette introduction.  The "after" shot shows some of the current Vettes moved to one side of the showroom to make room for tables and baskets.

The South Redford School District has benefited by tens of thousands of dollars over the years as parents, students, educators, and friends pour into the monstrous showroom of George Matick Chevrolet of Redford to bid on selected auction baskets and offers from local businesses, and to enjoy a great party.

The dealership prides itself in effective community activities like this.  Do unto others as you would have them do for you.

This year's event is Friday, March 23, and, as you can see, the dealership is ready for the crowds.  If you're in the area, feel free to join us for the fun!

Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat to go away for Corvette

According to a memo recently received by new Chevrolet Corvette dealers, Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat (80U) is being discontinued.

The final date for order submission in this color is April 7, 2007.  If that's the color you want, you do not have much time to order.

The memo indicates that a replacement color will be made available at the beginning of 2008 Model Year production.
