1965 Corvette Display Auctioned Off for $705,000!
Being from Detroit, we have a great appreciation for Car Shows, car displays and all that goes into marketing cars to the world. This story takes us back to 1965.
GM and Chevy used Autoramas to display cars and bring the technology and vehicles to customers in a revolutionary way for the time. The Corvette was nearly 3 years old in '65 and the hype had died down a little in that time. They decided they would create a cut-away display of the Corvette to show how not only the beauty of the car, but also how advanced the vehicle was.
Reportedly the display's location was unknown for sometime until the 1990's when it was returned to the US and purchased by Al Wiseman. This week it went on the auction block to the highest bidder looking to revel in Corvette history. The final bid on the vehicle was $640,000 and with the buyer's commission of 10%, the final cost coming in at a whopping $704,000! The buyer you ask? Showdown Muscle Cars, out of Detroit.
Even better, our friends at CorvetteBlogger have a video of the auction, available after the jump.

Corvette Throw-Over Seat Covers
More holiday gift ideas from your friends at CorvetteBlog. Today we feature C5 and C6 Corvette Cotton Throw-Over Seat Covers from Chevy Mall.
We love convertibles. Who doesn't?! The only negative thing that can happen is when you leave the top down, go in somewhere to do business or run an errand, and the sun beats down on your comfortable leather seats. By the time you get back, they are piping hot and uncomfortable, especially if you're wearing shorts! Don't get burned! We have the solution for the Corvette owner in your family.
These 100% cotton velour towel throw covers slip on the seats of your C5 or C6 Corvette quickly and will keep you comfortable when you return to your car. They are machine washable and feature the appropriate logo on the front with a fiber reactive dye.
These gifts are on sale now in two colors, tan or black for both models! The original price was $40.00 per cover, but the sale price is just $38.95. I don't believe these are sold as a pair though, which is a disappointment, but still a great purchase if you have a convertible.
To order yours today, head over to Chevy Mall.

C5 Corvette 3-Dial Weather Station Clock
In our continuing series on great gift ideas for the holidays, today we are featuring the C5 Corvette 3-Dial Weather Station Clock. We all love to know what the time and weather has in store for us and this is a great gift to give it to us, from Chevy Mall.
The clock is 14 3/4" in diameter, has humidity and temperature dials, a second hand in a lower dial on its own (which I've always thought was a nice feature) and a 3 year limited warranty. All that and it still comes in its own collectible gift box.
The 3-Dial Weather Station Clock is on sale now! The price is listed at $27.95, down from $30.00. The only bad part about it is that its not a C6 clock, but for those Corvette lovers, I doubt that would be a deal breaker on this one. There's no C6 clock out yet, but you can bet it will be on the way (probably when the C7 comes out...)
To order yours today, head over to Chevy Mall.

1997 Corvette Catalogs (Sales Brochures) For Sale
A small treasure trove of Sales Brochures for the 1997 Corvette have come to light in a forgotten corner of a shelf in our parent company's parts department. Many people call sales literature like this Catalogs, but technically they are Brochures (it's a long story). Regardless, CorvetteBlog is celebrating the discovery with a Close-Out Sale, eleven years late!
These sharp brochures are in great condition, still packed as they were in the original carton shipped to the dealership from the printer, Graphic Arts Center in Portland, Oregon. We can take MasterCard, American Express, Visa, PayPal, checks, cash. The price is just $14.95, including postage and handling.
If you need a quantity of these, we will negotiate on price!
Respond in the Comment Box below, and we will keep your response private.

Corvettes at Carlisle Diecast Models
With fresh memories of Corvettes at Carlisle still lingering in my mind, I was wondering if there were any collectibles around that were related to the annual extravaganza. I had seen Kathy of Vette Collectibles at Carlisle, assisting at the autographing table, but hadn't thought to ask her about Corvettes at Carlisle collectibles that day.
It turns out that there are two Corvetts At Carlisle specific diecast models still available from Vette Collectibles. Purchase of both C6 Corvette models includes a charitable contribution to the Chip Miller Charitable Foundation. Click on the Vette Collectibles link to the right for more information on these models.

Corvette Themed Art Work
Another of the vendors I spoke with Saturday at America's Corvette Show sells custom designed automotive art. Diane Everse (pictured) is President of Car Art Work, and she and her husband focus (almost) exclusively on producing novel artwork dedicated to the Corvette.
Their specialties are business card holders, plaques, Christmas tree ornaments, and cookie cutters, all displaying either the outlines of the various Corvette generations or the representative emblems. Their entire catalog is available on-line.

Chevy Nation Website Provides Virtual Corvette Fun
When you think of a single website that brings together videos, Corvette Racing Team news, catalog information, the lyrics to Chevy Corvette inspired songs, etc., what else could it be but Corvette Blog?
Corvette Blog is happy to announce that the good folks at Chevrolet have put together a remarkable website called chevynation.com, and it's unlike any other. Using the concept of a virtual city center with music club, stadium, garage, chop shop, and clubhouse, it's amazing what all you can see and do.
Although the site is Chevy-wide, Corvette themes are common. You can listen to a seven minute clip of Zora Arkus-Duntov driving a 1961 Corvette fuelie, you can read a 1963 Corvette catalog, you can listen to current NASCAR-themed Chevrolet commercials, and you can do so much more!

Custom Neon Corvette Clocks
If you're into neon (and surely not the Dodge Neon), neon Corvette clocks are now available. One of the vendors I met at the Bloomington Gold event was Jeff "the English guy" from Pennsylvania. The company is Compasstar, Inc.
The clocks are in in a 20" hand-formed aluminum case, and look sharp. All parts are made in the U.S.A. and the neon bulbs are said to last for ten years even if burned 24/7! A wide range of Corvette versions is available.
Pricing seems very reasonable, too.

Corvette Light Up Coin - Are they Serious?
I was watching TV today when I came across a commercial for the Corvette Coin. I stopped in my tracks, not just because I contribute to the blog and love Corvettes, but because I thought - this must be a spoof.
But oh no, this Corvette Coin is a reality. The coin is the first ever to actually light up, and features a 2008 Corvette Z06 in Yellow on the front. Now why you want a coin that lights up, I seriously don't know. There's a limit of 5 per customer, so keep that in mind. Granted, its an interesting talking piece, but it has no association with the US Mint.
If you want to shell out $19.95 for the coin (+$4.95 for shipping), then by all means, click on the link below. Otherwise, click on it to just see how crazy it really is. There's a flash commercial on their site, so you can be stopped in your tracks too.
(Side note: if anyone gets one of these, send us a review so we can hear what you think!)

2007 Bloomington Gold Merchandise Going Fast!
We've blogged about out friends at Vette Collectibles before, as purveyors of excellent quality Corvette themed diecast models, clothing, and merchandise. I was pleased to meet some of these fine folks at the Bloomington Gold Show, too.
According to Kathy at VetteCollectibles.Com, the special edition Bloomington Gold Zippo Lighters are almost out of stock. Each lighter is marked with a unique number on the front, making them a great collectible.
And, if you're looking for something cuddly for a little one, or someone just young at heart, nothing can beat a Bloomington Gold
Bear.
As with many of the vendors I met at Bloomington Gold, they will be at Corvettes at Carlisle in August, too.

Corvette Signs in Neon
One of many vendors of Corvette merchandise that I met at the Bloomington Gold Show was Bob Johnston from deep in the heart of Texas. As a licensee from GM for twenty years, Bob knows what he's doing.
Bob's specialty is neon signs. He produces C2, C3, C4, C5, C6, 50th Anniversary, Chevrolet, and Chevy Bowtie signs from 100% American materials. They'd look great in an office, a den, a showroom, or even a garage.
In addition to the signs, his company AutoEtcNeon also sells Bloomington Gold earrings, key fobs, and license plates. Everything I saw had a quality look about it, and I recommend a look at his website.

Corvette Sales Literature
Where would you go to read the sales literature for a 1960 or a 1973 Corvette?
Well, you could visit the incredible resources of the National Automotive Historical Collection at the Detroit Public Library or the National Corvette Museum.
But what if you have no plans to be in either Michigan or Kentucky to visit one of these places any time soon, but you would still like to see the original sales "catalog" from the dealership to see what equipment was optional, or what colors were offered, in a particular year? Perhaps you want the original literature to have on display with your classic Vette this summer.
One clear option is to purchase an original brochure from one of a few car catalog collectors. The company with the most effective website that I have found is McLellan's. This link will take you right to their Corvette page!
If you would like us to feature another company, please let us know with whom you have done business.
