2010 Corvettes

• No general rebates or special financing offers available.  Depending on where you live, you may qualify for $500 Auto Show Bonus Cash (if there's an Auto Show in your area).  You may also qualify for GM Supplier pricing if you qualify for the Military Discount or belong to a Credit Union.

2009 Corvettes

• Option 1:  $4,000 Customer Rebate is available, in addition to any Auto Show Bonus Cash or other discounts you may receive (as indicated above).

Petroleum tycoon, Carlton Beal Jr., just recently made the trade of all trades at the All American Chevrolet dealership in Midland, Texas.

Beal traded his 2008 red-on-black Bugatti Veyron for a Corvette ZR1!

With 20,307 miles on the odometer, the seemingly new Bugatti Veyron actually matches up well to the ZR1. The Veyron clocks 0-to-60MPH in just 2.4 seconds, reaching high speeds of 253 miles per hour. The ZR1, on the other hand, reaches the 0-to-60 MPH mark in 3.3 seconds and high speeds of 205 miles per hour. Not too shabby.

The only strong difference: cost. A new Veyron runs for $1,600,000, a ZR1 only $107,000. With such a huge cost gap, the dealership wouldn’t accept the Veyron trade-in until they lined up a buyer, which they did.

Overall, in my opinion, Beal was smart in this trade… Not only did he regain some cashflow, but he is also the proud owner of an American-made vehicle that performs nearly as well as his former European ride.

Imagine a complete set of 36 Chevrolet Corvettes ranging from 1953 until 1989… all neglected in a dark, dingy apartment basement covered in inches of dust and damaged with flat tires and sagging convertible tops.

Well, for years that’s just where Pop Art icon, Peter Max, chose to store his collection of vehicles for an on-hold art project. Max originally purchased the collection of vehicles from Mr. Amodeo, who had won them as a prize from a 1989 VH1-sponsored contest!

Yes, at that time, VH1 was heavily competing with sister network, MTV. In an attempt to attract an older audience, freelance television producer for VH1, Jim Cahill, pulled together this promotion which “had to be big, but the theme of it had to resonate with baby boomers.”

Cahill brainstormed the perfect baby boomer prize – Corvettes! After gaining the approval from top execs, Cahill purchased the 36 vehicles in 1988. “I got to shop for all the Corvettes that I’d always wanted,” he said. “We actually assembled them pretty quickly.”

Fortunately for VH1, the promotion was a huge success, creating nationwide buzz and enticing 1.3 million callers to enter the contest by calling into a call-in number.

As for now, the collection of Corvettes has been relocated to a building in Upper Manhattan – just waiting for their next move or art debut…

Michael Scott Rindahl, 18, and Chase McClaine Forest, 19, were arrested earlier this month after reportedly stealing a 2001 Corvette from a yard owned by Endicott Enterprises. Why? Maybe because the boys were just being stupid teenagers or maybe for payback…

In a 2007 trial, Rindahl had testified against Endicott, 72, for child molestation. Endicott was put behind bars in the Sacramento County Jail without bail one year later for six felony counts of child molestation charges.

But, regardless of the past, the two young boys had also created a crime: trespassing on private property with suspicion of commercial burglary and auto theft.

The boys were stopped after a long police car pursuit chase by the California Highway Patrol and detained without incident. They were booked into the Tehama County Jail with a bail set at $20,000 each.

Sad situation for all parties, but fortunately the Corvette was returned undamaged.

Details are finally surfacing about the 2011 Corvette Z06.  While not the most exciting news or details, the tires are important and the first major announcement we have.

“Street-refined, but track-capable.” That’s exactly what Goodyear had in mind when factory fitting their latest Ultra-High Performance Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires for the 2011 Corvette Z06.

Bob Toth, Goodyear's director of new products, believes the multiple facets of the tire are important when fitting for the Corvette. The directional tread design helps enhance the dry cornering grip while even the tire’s style and lettering is important in giving the overall high performance appearance.

"The new Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 is positioned as a race-inspired, ultra-high performance dry traction tire for select supercars. With a left-side, right-side specific tread design, it offers superb dry traction and precise handling, complementing both the performance and appearance of sports cars," Toth said.

Now after multiple road course tests throughout North America, the tires will be available this summer in two run-flat sizes: P275/35ZR18 and P325/30ZR19.

Now that the transition from GT1 to GT2 class is complete, Corvette Racing is back in full gear! Corvette Racing has been invited to race in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) as well as this year’s 78th 24-hour Le Mans race in France.

• ALMS: Two twin Compuware Corvette C6.Rs are amongst 17 entries to compete within the nine ALMS events this year. The season-opening event for Corvette Racing is the 58th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, a 12-hour endurance race, on March 20. (Watch it live on the SPEED channel.)
   
• Le Mans: Two C6.Rs will travel to France to compete in the ultimate 24 Hours of Le Mans from June 12 until June 13. Competition is fierce for this 17 vehicle GT2 race class, which will include five Porsche 911s, two BMW M3s, five Ferrari F430s, an Aston Martin Vantage, a Spyker C8 and the new Jaguar XKR.

With the success Corvette Racing has had in just receiving these invitations, Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan admits it’s still important to stay close to home. "While Corvette is truly a global brand, our most important market is North America," said Fehan. "Our participation in the American Le Mans Series is both a proving ground for our technology and a showcase to demonstrate Corvette's capabilities for our customers and fans."

For the following races, Corvette Racing drivers will include Emmanuel Collard, Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, Antonio Garcia, Johnny O'Connell, Jan Magnussen and Ron Fellows.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I am listening to a program or song on the radio that I'm really enjoying and either get a phone call, stop for gas, or the like and have to miss a portion or all of what I'm listening to.  For a few years, satellite radio providers have given customers that option with their devices they sell, but the option has yet to be introduced, built in to GM radios.

We don't have to wait any longer.  Certain GM vehicles offer a Pause and Play Radio feature, which saves up to 20-minutes of audio from a radio (including XM radio) on a vehicle’s hard drive. The best part – this radio save feature can even be activated when the vehicle is turned off!

Now in addition to the certain handful of GM vehicles that offer Pause and Play Radio, GM recently announced this radio feature would also become available on lower-end vehicles as well.  This announcement we find interesting, considering they have higher-end vehicles such as the Corvette lacking the latest, greatest options.

After first debuting on the Cadillac CTS, the feature has been available on the Buick LaCrosse, Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain and Cadillac SRX. And now, the Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Regal will begin to offer it too. Others suggest GM will continue to expand this feature onto other vehicles eventually.

Maybe next year’s Corvette will make the cut! If not then, maybe with the release of the Corvette C7 – that is if it doesn’t already come with better radio features!

AutoWeek’s executive edition, Roger Hart, just recently celebrated his 10th year on the job. To commemorate those years, Hart listed his top 10 favorite cars he has had the opportunity to drive.

“In going through my list, I realized some of the cars I loved, while being great cars, are on the list as much for the driving experience and where I drove them as for the actual car itself. But thinking about it, that's the way it should be,” says Hart.

Plain and simple:  last year’s Corvette sales were the worst since 1961.

Yes, this extensive drop may very well be attributed to the current state of the economy (and automotive industry) at large. But, is this decline completely reminiscent of the economy?

After much research, Edmunds’ AutoObserver.com thinks it’s a combination of two things: down economy AND loss of consumer interest in sports cars.

In 2008, the Corvette was one of the best selling sports cars around, consuming more than 6% of the sports car market share.

Just last year, the Corvette declined 43.8% in sales! Yes, the economy didn’t help, but should we also place blame on the close competitor – Chevy Camaro? Not according to Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell, who states, “Over 60,000 Camaros were sold last year, and many of the buyers are unlikely to have chosen another sports car in its place had it not been on the market.”

So, maybe this legendary American sports cars’ sales decline can be attributed to a loss in consumer “flair” after all?  What do you think?

The devastation of the Haiti earthquake has left the country in great need. In response to this need, GM auctioned off a 2008 limited edition Chevrolet Corvette Z06 at this year's Barrett-Jackson car auction.

The bidding closed at $200,000, leaving the American Red Cross with 100% of these proceeds to help with its relief efforts in Haiti.

Watch the LIVE footage as Kate Forbes from the American Red Cross addresses the Barrett-Jackson crowd before the one-of-a-kind Corvette is auctioned off to its lucky new owner after the jump.

The Corvette itself was the last of 427 Z06s ever produced within North America as well as the last 2008 Z06 available in Crystal Red Metallic. Under the hood stores a 7-liter V8 engine that can produce up to 505 horsepower.  It was also signed by Corvette plant manager Will Cooksey who retired in 2006.

This favorite all-American sports ride has prospered through the years as GM continually changes and enhances its style, features and options to cater to consumer demands.

With the arrival of the four-door Caprice Police Patrol vehicle to North America in 2011, what will come next?

Well, GM’s Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has been busy with this very question. He has, however, had his eyes on Australia’s Holden Commodore. The perfect successor to the Caprice just may be the Commodore Police Cruiser. This is great for the police force, but what about the everyday driver?

Enter the potential idea of a four-door Corvette! Therefore, the four-door Corvette model stemmed from the Australian Holden Commodore.

One would assume the National Corvette Museum solely displays information and exhibits about vehicles, more specifically about Corvettes. But, in fact, this museum regularly hosts a wide array of special exhibits for individuals of all ages.

The latest 25,000-square-foot exhibit, entitled “The World We Create” on loan from the Louisville Science Center, contains hands-on activities that show first-hand how human creativity has been used to advance our world and solve problems. Participants are carried through three themes within this exhibit, which include: Construction Zone, Transit Hub and Tech Works.

That’s right. This year’s 39th Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction is ALL about the Corvette!!

A grand total of 125 Corvettes will be offered from the auction block this year! The ‘Vettes will range in a wide variety of color and even model year, from the current 2010 ZR1 to a late 1954 classic. In fact, Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson, admits, “This is the best offering of Corvettes we’ve ever had at Barrett-Jackson.”

In addition to numerous top-tier Corvettes being auctioned off, this past Thursday included the 3rd annual Corvette Market magazine seminar. The seminar was a great success and included two segments: “Restoration vs. Preservation” and a guest panel’s picks to “Buy, Sell and Hold”.

Tom Read from GM's Advanced Powertrain Technology Communications recently stated, "We are considering the program".

What’s this program that he speaks of? Well, it will allow Corvette ZR1 buyers to build their very own LS9 V8 638 horsepower engine!

So now, in addition to employing 38 skilled builders at the Wixom, Mich. Just this past August, we told you about the C6.R Corvette debuting for the first time ever in the new GT2 race class. That was then.

Now… we’re here to here to tell you about the new racing ‘Vette!

Doug Fehan, Corvette Racing program manager, recently unveiled the all-new 2010 C6.R V8 5.5-liter Corvette.

Yes, the vehicle already debuted, but NOT with the powerful engine she has in tow now. The new engine actually has been in the making since the vehicle’s initial debut. The production of the engine will continue to be built alongside ZR1 and Z06 V8s in GM’s Performance Build Center.

From now until February 2, 2010, GM Cardmembers who receive a special direct mail piece will be eligible to earn special bonus offerings toward the purchase or lease of ONE new GM vehicle.

• Individuals that carry the GM Extended Family Card (as of October 31, 2009) will be given $750 in bonus earnings. These earnings can be combined with other GM incentives, such as the GM employee, supplier or dealership discount.

• GM Cardmember customers may be eligible to receive bonus earnings with GM’s January Topped-Off Earnings Retail Program. Just Announced are Chevy's offers for January, in the marketing play they are calling "Owner Loyalty."  The program is primarily driven by previous GM owners getting special discounts on new vehicles.  We've outlined the changes to the Corvette incentives programs below:

2010 Corvettes (not ZR1):

• $1,000 Rebate for current owners of a 1999 or newer GM vehicle (including all the previous GM brands that have since stopped production).  You are not required to trade in the vehicle, and the eligibility can be transferred within the household.

2009 Corvettes (not ZR1):

U.S. News & World Report recently released their 2010 Best Cars for the Money listing. Without surprise, the Chevrolet Corvette made the list as Best Luxury Sports Car!

The vehicles that were chosen to receive one of the 23 Best for the Money awards can be seen after the jump.  You'll notice the majority of the vehicles on the list are imports, only 3 cars coming out of the big three and only 1 from GM - the Vette.

The various award categories help classify each type of car. U.S. News’ automotive rankings, customer satisfaction and good long-term value are all main criteria for being nominated for this award.

Yes, it’s the new craze. LED lights.

More than 750 strings of LED white Christmas lights were used to adorn the White House Christmas tree this year. Why? To be more energy efficient.

It’s a great alternative, yes, when it comes to saving our environment and money. However, just because LED lights illuminate the President’s holiday tree, doesn’t mean we should replace all lighting.

Some states have begun using LED traffic lights. Smart move?

Well, unfortunately, with all this cold snowy weather, the LED lights don’t produce the amount of excess heat that would normally melt the snow. Thus, car accidents and even a death have blamed due to these new wondrous LED lights.

So, moral of story, consider all factors before switching to the new trendy LED lights. What do you think about these lights? Are they really worth all the hype?

We thought Santa’s main mode of transportation was his magical elf-crafted sleigh. But, boy, were we wrong. Santa was recently spotted instead in a Corvette!

That’s right.  In honor of the Korvettes for Kids Toy Run, Santa made his way to Bridgeport’s Troop G in a 2004 bright yellow Corvette!

Santa’s journey was accompanied with 50 of his elves who each drove their own Corvette. The elves were needed in to accompany Santa since he had to deliver more than 100 bags of toys!!

The toys, many of which were donated by the 300 Club Corvette of Connecticut members, were then distributed to needy and sick children within the region. “Giving back to the community is the philosophy of our club,” said George Macary, vice president of Club Corvette.

Now in it’s 11th year, the Korvettes for Kids Toy Run proved to be yet another success! What a wonderful way to bring Christmas cheer!

It's always fun to see owner satisfaction reports, especially from an industry leader like Consumer Reports.  This year's survey is in and low and behold, we have something to celebrate.

After 380,000 car owners were surveyed by Consumer Report’s Owner Satisfaction survey, Corvette ended up at the top… top #3 to be exact.

The survey included a question that 80% of car owners had to answer “definitely yes”. The question asked, “Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had it to do all over again?”

GM has alerted dealers today of an upcoming safety recall for Corvette owners.  Here are the details of what vehicles are involved and what you can expect.

The recall will include certain 2005-2007 Corvettes equipped with a removable roof and 2006-2007 Corvette Z06's.  This includes some 22,000 Corvettes! 

Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the adhesive between the roof panel and the frame may separate.  If there is a partial separation, the occupant may notice one or more symptoms, such as a snapping noise when driving over bumps, wind noise, poor roof panel fit, roof panel movement/bounce when a door or hatch is closed, or a water leak in the headliner.  If there is a complete separation, the roof panel may detach from the vehicle.  If this were to occur while the vehicle was being driven, it could strike a following vehicle and cause injury and/or property damage.

To correct the problem, dealers will install a newly designed roof panel.  Right now GM is waiting on suppliers to obtain the required parts and when a sufficent number has been obtained, customer notification will begin.

Dealers do not know which specific vehicles are involved, nor can they perform the recall before the recall has been officially launched.

Many Corvette owners have chosen to have Navigation installed in their Corvette by the factory, while some others have chosen to go the cheaper route and use a portable GPS unit.  Either way, if you're storing information in the navigation (like any of us normally would), beware.

Two metro Detroit robbers were recently nabbed for stealing GPS and garage openers from unlocked vehicles in 17 lower Michigan locations.

Just think… Those two items alone gives strangers FULL access to your house! The GPS is likely programmed with your home directions while your garage door opener will simply open your house!

Now you know. So be one step ahead of those 23-year old robbers. Program your home location as the local McDonald’s – or anywhere that’s miles away from your garage!  Coming from someone who has had their car stolen, I highly recommend this simple change to protect yourself and your family.

LOMA Performance just recently unveiled their newest edition, the Blackforce One Corvette.

Okay, so the name is a bit gimmicky. Yes.

The actual vehicle, however, is a different story. Made out of a C6-based twin-turbocharged engine, this Corvette can reach up to 783 horsepower. With a whopping 666 horsepower coming from the rear wheels, this machine can make it to top speeds of 205 mph, giving it only 3.4 seconds to hit the 100 km mark.

Carbon-ceramic disc brake replacements and upgrades to suspension, exhaust, tires, wheels and other elements make this vehicle hard to come by. In fact, only 25 of these vehicles will ever be produced.

After migrating across the U.S., this crazy winter storm is now leaving the northeast with a vengeance.

In northern New York alone, the storm has produced 60-mile-an-hour winds causing power outages in more than 5,000 homes and even extreme damage to vehicles and houses.

Corvette enthusiast, Michael Keegan came home to find his 1984 Corvette crushed by two enormous maple trees hit by high winds. Yikes!

Sadly, the blizzard-like conditions will continue to rear its ugly face. So, moral of the story, consider yourself lucky if you still have power and your Corvette is still in one piece.

Queen said it best with, "Another one bites the dust."  Ed Whitacre comes out yesterday and explains to the media that Fritz Henderson (President & CEO) of General Motors is no more.  Mark Lenave recently and now Fritz.  After spending a day analyzing the various news reports and looking at the situation that he has been dealt, we're rather surprised that other people are surprised.  With the Opel, Saturn and Saab deals not happening, it was inevitable that someone would have to be accountable for that. 

That said, Fritz did provide leadership during the most difficult time in GM's history, and for that, we thank him.  He was always well respected within General Motors and certainly around the Detroit area, but now we move on.  Will Ed Whitacre be the guy to take hold of GM and personally turn the ship around?  We hope so.  He did remarkable things with the conglomerate that's now AT&T, and we can only hope good things are ahead.

The National Corvette Museum celebrated their second-annual tradition this year during the first weekend in November. Three days of festivities were planned in honor of our U.S. veterans.

Nearly 150 veterans were included in the long-weekend of events, which included drag racing, golf cart autocross, tours, scavenger hunts, poker runs, a formal banquet and more. A Bowling Green Veterans Day Parade topped the cake on Saturday.

No Corvette required upon admission, only $10.

Art Van recently celebrated their 50th birthday this month at the Warren Art Van Furniture store. Entertainment at this “Michigan Legends Charity Concert” included performances by The Original Vandellas, the Miracles and the Contours. The event raised money for the Gleaners Community Food Bank.

Amongst all this excitement, the night concluded with a 1959 “little red Corvette” give away. With more than 541,000 online entries placed between June and November, Traverse City resident, Tracie Sears, and husband, Todd, were the lucky winners of this fully restored classic car.

"I never dreamed I'd actually win! My husband and I drove down from Traverse City to see the concert, but I never expected to hear my name called as the winner!" exclaimed Tracie.

In these already troubling economic times, millions in federal economic stimulus money has been spent on the building and preserving of our national museums.

Within the past four years alone, $28 million has been spent on funding 55 transportation-related museums, including the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Yes, you probably are more than aware, but after much hype, the Corvette Grand Sport is back!

Customization is key in the new 2010 model. Eight exterior colors, four rear-fender hues and the ultimate choice of coupe or convertible are all major decisions upon initial purchase.

The Grand Sport falls in between the base ‘Vette and the Z06. A stiffened suspension and LS3 engine allow the Grand Sport to output 430 horsepower. A whole new perspective is brought to the vehicle’s brake system. The brakes are cross-drilled and upsized at 14.0 inches in the front and 13.4 inches in the rear.

If you prefer to take on the manual coupe, the vehicle’s features include a rear-mounted battery, a dry-sump oil system, differential cooler and a launch-control program to improve acceleration.

According to well-placed sources, a Corvette with a mid-engined layout was well into development in 2008, until the global financial meltdown cut off funding sources.  Then, General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson proclaimed in May that the Corvette was paying it's own way, and that the C7 was alive.

Now, as AutoWeek Magazine's print version declared this week (11.16.09 issue), there may no longer be a C7 in development!  Say it ain't so!  We love the 6th Generation, without a doubt, but we want -- we need -- a future, too!

Some people love the Corvette. Some people don’t.

Apparently, The Mechanic falls into the later category. He is described as a free-spoken blogger with a “for your own good” opinion on vehicles and the auto industry as a whole.

I won’t even try to describe his opinion of the Corvette, as my words won’t do justice to his pure outraged attitude. So I quote:

“Sure it performs incredibly well, but the Corvette as a relevant performance car has lots its way. Instead of being the everyman, all-American supercar it once was, the Vette has become too expensive, too extreme and too cheesy.”

“Chevy has blown it by allowing the Corvette’s price and performance to get out of hand. And it continues to wrap the Vette in a dated package that is driving America’s youth car enthusiasts elsewhere…”

“Come on GM, give us a Corvette we the people want today, not the Corvette you thought we wanted in 1989.”

Popular Mechanics recently set up an interesting comparison – BMW M3 vs. Corvette Grand Sport.

Though these vehicles and their manufacturers are vastly different, there are similarities between each model that make this battle rather interesting…

1. Both share V8 engines that output over 400 horsepower.
2. Both have rear-wheel drive to support with acceleration performance.
3. Both cost nearly the same in price. (M3 - $59,975; Grand Sport - $55,720)

Knowing these similarities exist, we are still aware that these vehicles are completely different in every further aspect including manufacturer, design, technical performance, steering, etc. But, in the interest of time, let’s skip to the exciting part… Who will cross the finish line first?

Unfortunately, no video of the race was captured, though the acceleration stats will do justice.

Although the performance is very close, the Grand Sport comes out ahead in most categories.

…Use it for a coffin!

Yes, that’s exactly what one family did after following the wishes of their deceased loved – Donna Mae Mims, 82. Donna was the first woman ever to win a Sports Car Club of America National Championship back in 1963. She was nicknamed “the Pink Lady” because of her love for driving pink cars.

So naturally, in remembrance of Donna’s great achievement, the family utilized a 1979 pink Corvette to prop her body up in during her funeral home visitation hours.

Growing trend? No.

Taking Corvette-love to the next level? Heck yes.  Nevertheless, this too will be sure to turn heads!

So when you combine the front-end of a truck and the rear-end of a Corvette, you get the fastest amphibious vehicle ever! Go figure.

The latest amphibious vehicle breaking world records is the Python. Though the vehicle only gets up to 100 mph on land, it can simply transform into boat-mode at the click of a button. Give her 4.5 seconds and she can get up to 60 mph in the water!

Built on a Dodge truck frame, the vehicle is built with rolling chassis that each contain lightweight stainless steel. The engines: a Dominator Jet for boat mode and any LS-series engine for car mode.

The interior is built much like a boat with bucket seats up front and seating that wraps around in the rear. Of course, the doors are built to secure that the water stays out.

Each Python is hand-built one at a time. To order, you must first join the waiting list and drop $5,000 for a deposit…. But that’s hardly damage when the chassis alone costs $170,000. The Python can reach up to $200,000 depending entirely on the choice of Corvette engine!

Gran Turismo for PSP is now available. This new Play Station game allows players to race a wide assortment of over 800 sports, historic and racing vehicles. The game, developed by Polyphony Digital, offers great game handling and the opportunity to either play alone or with multi-players.

With each win, players earn cash and can then purchase their next car from the 830-vehicle list. As one’s car collection grows, players may add specific cars to their “favorite” status, which facilitates the car selection process for future races.

Though, each vehicle drives differently - you should definitely try test-driving one of the nine Corvettes listed. In no particular order, they are:

Without a doubt, the Grand Sport is the preferred model for those purchasing a new Corvette for the 2010 model year!  So, what is it about the Grand Sport that draws the customers?

I think the answers to this question are easy.  They are Looks and Choices.

I say Looks, because for the first time, the Corvette buyer can get that beautiful wide body look, previously available only to the buyer of the Z06 or the ZR1.  You have just got to love those gills!

And, I say Choices because you can have these desirable looks in a Convertible, as well as in a Coupe!  In addition, you can have the 6-Speed Paddle-Shift Automatic Transmission or the 6-Speed Manual.  Yes, you have new choices in this year's Corvette line!

Scott Burgess of the Detroit News was one of many auto writers to pick up on these qualities, and write about them.  Scott is spot on, as usual.

GM has just announced that they have lowered the dealer cost on the LS1 Engine.  Because dealers price the engines out in different ways, we won't publish the finalized pricing, but can tell you that the prices have been reduced.

If you're in the market for a new LS1 engine, wait until after October 1st and let's see how the pricing changes.  That's the date when the new price will be reflected.

Examiner.com recently wrote an article, entitled “2010 Corvette Grand Sport is THE BEST car a celebrity won’t drive”. Hmm… why?

The article insures that the Grand Sport is “actually the ideal celebrity car – insane performance, great comfort and a host of gadgets, half century of street cred, and amazing aftermarket potential”. How come celebrities won’t drive it then?

Well according to Examiner.com, since the Hollywood celebrities have not truly adopted GM manufactured cars (excluding the Cadillac Escalade), this popularity of GM vehicles reflects back on our nation’s general population.

So, let’s say if Lindsay Lohan were to purchase a Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport – I, among others, would be more inclined to be like her and purchase the very same vehicle.

Umm…NOT! (I don’t entirely agree.)

General Motors is finally stepping up to the plate with an innovative program to get conquest customers into the showroom.  If you haven't yet heard, they are offering a 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee through November 30th, 2009.

What this means is that if you take delivery of a new Chevy (say a Corvette for example), you keep it for 30 days and if you don't like it, you have between 31 and 60 days to return it to the dealership you purchased it from.  Chevy (and us) are confident you're going to love the new GM car you choose, and we're standing behind them.

The are a few stipulations to the program, including any negative equity, accessories, service contracts or any other additions that might be to the vehicle's purchase price must be paid for by the customer when they return the vehicle.  In other words, GM isn't picking up your negative equity or your accessories.  Other than that, for the most part, you are free and clear to turn it in.  If you have a payment during the time you have the vehicle (which you will), you need to pay that.  You can't be late in your contract.

Last night in Denver Colorado, there was a terrible crash involving a Chevrolet Corvette.  Several lanes of the SB Interstate 25 were closed as police tried to figure out what made the Corvette slam into the underpass at Downing Street.

The Corvette was engulfed in flames and now the focus is on the integrity of the overpass given the accident and fire.  The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, no news on the his or her status.

We remember to drive safely in our Corvettes and wish the driver and their family the best.

GM has just launched their semi-annual Car Care promotion they affectionately call Goodwrench & Go. It is a great program, incentivized by GM, to encourage customers to come into dealerships to get oil changes and discounted services for $39.95 or less.

This time around, customers receiving the direct mail piece from GM are offered a $15 discount card that they can use at any GM dealership on a service of $100 or more. In addition, each customer who receives the mail piece will also get a voucher for $750 off on a new 2009 Chevy Vehicle (excluding ZR-1) or $500 off a new 2010 Chevy that can stack with all of our other rebates and incentives except the stand alone APR offers. It's a nice little program and offer for the millions of people that receive the mailing (which should be hitting your mailboxes this week).  You can also transfer the offer to another family member or anyone in the household.

We are offering the program for all of our GM customers, but remember that the published pricing of $39.95 or less does not include Corvettes.  Our Synthetic oil change package is priced at $54.95.

August 1, 2009. This date marked a new era of Corvette Racing.

Corvette has always participated in the American Le Mans Racing Series within the GT1 class. However, the first of this month debuted the Corvette C6.R into the GT2 class in the Mid-Ohio race.

Ever since entering into the GT1 class back in 1995, Corvette Racing has remained strong and relentless. Others racing vehicles have come and gone, like the Dodge Viper, Aston Martin DBR9 and Ferrari 575. Corvette has, however, come out of the retired GT1 class and graduated, all on its own, into the GT2 class.

Well, Motor Trend was at it again. The gang teamed up with pro-racer Randy Pobst to put together a list of the hottest performance cars on the market. The winner was given the title: “Best Driver’s Car”.

The vehicles’ rankings were based off ALOT of material, 18 pages to be exact. To summarize, the collected data included a combination of speed, braking performance, acceleration data and pure subjective “in the seat” driver’s experience.

General Motor’s new test track, located in Yuma, Arizona, held its grand opening on Wednesday, July 22. To celebrate, the Arizona Corvette Enthusiasts car club brought an array of Corvettes to initiate the track’s grand opening.

"We heard about the grand opening and suggested we get our Corvettes out to the event to support GM and its employees," said Thomas Counts, AZ Corvette enthusiast.

The Yuma track itself was originally built to replace GM’s 50-year-old track in Mesa. The $100 million new track was constructed within the Yuma Proving Ground and occupies 2,400 acres of land. Fortunately, the track opened just in time for the busy season in hot weather testing.

So now, the next time you’re in Arizona, be sure to visit the new Yuma track. I’m sure it’s worth the ride!

Raleigh’s Wake County Sheriff Department just added another fleet car to its lineup… a Corvette Z06. Yes, you read it right! Deputies driving the Corvette Z06 will focus their attention to the Interstate 40, targeting vehicles suspected of possessing illegal drugs.

Consequently, the re-purposed deputy vehicle was seized from a cocaine dealer this past December. Now, the vehicle will help to put an end to drug trafficking on the Interstate. “We’re going to get a lot of drugs off the road,” said Sheriff Donnie Harrison.

Though the vehicle was seized free of charge, the department equipped the Z06 with nearly $9,000 in lights, siren, radar, radio and a laptop computer. According to Harrison, the vehicle “drives great” with only 11,792 miles on the odometer.

The Sheriff’s Department plans to utilize the Z06 as long as it proves to be useful. The department plans to then sell the vehicle after that point, and give proceeds to the Wake County Public School System.

Corvette’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant recently announced a new schedule of production hours, effective July 20th. Instead of a normal 8-hour, 5 days per week, operation hours will be reduced to 10-hour days, 4 days per week.

The nearly 500 workers now employed will be expected to work Monday through Thursday from 6:12am until 4:42pm. There is no word of how long this new schedule will endure.

To further control production numbers of Corvettes, the plant is also scheduled to close August 3rd, August 10th, and August 17th.

We've been taking a lot of calls lately wondering about what discounts are currently available on Corvettes.  That said, we thought we'd take a quick minute to recap all of the current offers that you may qualify for:

2009 Corvettes

• GM's Open House promotion gives everyone the GM Supplier Discount pricing
• If you qualify for the GM Employee Discount (GMS), you are eligible for $500 off
• If you have a Nissan or Infinity in the household (2000 or newer), you are eligible for $1,500 off
• If the Corvette you're interested in is an "old invoice" unit, or one that has been in a dealer's inventory for a long time, you are entitled to $1,000 off.  There's no way for a consumer to check on those units that qualify, so if you are interested, please contact the selling dealership and inquire about the program.
• 2009 Corvette ZR1s do not qualify for any of the above programs, except the "Old invoice" program, but most likely none of those would qualify either.

2008 Corvettes

• $4,000 Customer Cash Rebate is available, or you can take 5.9% financing (with approved credit) for up to 60 months.

Strategic Vision’s 2009 Total Quality Awards has named Chevrolet Corvette Coupe as best Sports Car. The reigning title is no surprise to Corvette after having received the same honorable title recently by JD Powers & Associates.

Strategic Vision’s survey responses entail more open-ended, opinionated substance answers. Instead of basing survey results on a high volume of consumer participation, Strategic Vision incorporates both the positive and negative phases of buying, owning and driving vehicles.

“The difference between products that generate consideration, build brands and increase sales versus those that do not is often how much delight and love the product generates with its consumers,” says Dr. Darrel Edwards, chairman of Strategic Vision.

As you can see, Corvette’s high score of 938 not only surpassed all vehicles in the “Premium Coupe” class BUT all other class winners within the ENTIRE survey!

Techco, an aftermarket company based in Anaheim, is known for adding their “special touches” to Chrysler LX and Ford Mustang platforms.

Now, it’s Chevrolet Corvette’s turn…

Techco recently got their hands on a new C6 Corvette, adding on a reverse-revolution twin-screw supercharger system. This baby fit right underneath the hood with no adjustments to the body needed. The supercharger’s features include an 8-rib drive system, dual A-Frame intercooler system, high-volume fuel rails with 54 lb/hr injectors, which all allow the C6 to perform with:

• 600 horsepower
  
• 535 lb.-ft. torque
  
• 6 pounds of boost
  
• 3.0-liter displacement

The price? You may ask… only $8,500. Not bad! And even though you can’t see this monster lurking underneath the hood, just a slight touch of the gas pedal will tell a different story. So watch out!

Hennessey Performance Engineering recently unveiled the next step up from the ZR1… the 2010 Hennessey ZR700.

To build the ZR700, HPE has taken the ZR1 and enhanced it to become lighter, faster and more powerful. Instead of 638 horsepower, the Z700 comes equipped with 705 dyno-tuned horsepower. The replacement of carbon fiber seats, carbon fiber and Michilin Pilot Cup Sport wheels were all modified to make the overall vehicle weigh less. Z-Aero carbon fiber splinter, canards and a rear spoiler were also added as aero enhancement additions to account for 300lbs. of downforce.

The real test comes later this year when HPE plans to travel to Germany with the ZR700 and complete the Nurburgring lap time in 7:26. Will the ZR1 really have a chance?

A minimum of 24 ZR700s will ever be produced. The cost… $207,150. (This price also includes a day’s worth of performance driving instruction on HPE’s very own Lonestar Motorsports Park.)

Today Chevrolet announced a Customer Satisfaction Program on selected 2009 Corvette ZR1.  A Customer Satisfaction Program is not a full fledged recall, but more so a program to alert customers of a possible issue.  Here are the details:

Certain 2009 model year Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 vehicles may have a condition in which the clutch damper spring may fracture.  If this were to occur, the driver may or may not notice gear rattle and/or the transmission may be hard to shift.  If the vehicle is driven with a fractured clutch damper spring, it could result in damage to the transmission.

The VIN breakpoints (last 8 digits) that are included in this program are: 95800667 through 95801069.  Not all vehicles within these breakpoints may be involved, your GM dealership will check their computer system to see if your vehicle is involved.

Your GM dealership will replace the clutch assembly FREE of charge.  Additionally, courtesy transportation is available for those customers involved.  Letters will be sent to known owners of record located within areas covered by the US National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

After the introduction of the ZR1, Rick Squires was provoked to turn his dream into a reality. He had always wanted to build a limited-edition STS Corvette. Now, more than ever, he had the motivation to build such a dependable, everyday ride while also dishing out stiff competition to the ZR1.

A car enthusiast himself, Rick Squires, founder and VP of research and development at STS, chose to produce a handful of these vehicles in order to entice potential customers away from the almighty ZR1.

And so the ZR7 was born.

This name was not only chosen as a close replication to the competition, but also to symbolize the vehicle’s features. ‘Z’ for the history of high-performance GM vehicles, ‘R’ for the racing suspension and power delivery, ‘7’ for the vehicle’s 700+ horsepower status.

Fortunately for Squire and his hardworking team, production of the ZR7 squeezed right in hours before the 2008 SEMA, where the vehicle was formally introduced. "The body was designed and fabricated, finished and painted in six days," Squires explains. “The turbo system, suspension, brakes, radiator, and so on were all finished in an 18-hour blitz at STS Turbo."

A tire is a tire, right?  Wrong.  Many consumers lack pertinent information about how a tire can improve a vehicle’s performance and potentially reduce fuel costs. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants to change this and educate consumers during their next tire purchase.

The NHTSA has proposed that tires come equipped with removable labels, explaining that individual tire’s fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas rating, safety (wet traction), and durability (tread wear).

Purchase a better quality tire, save gas costs, and remain eco-friendly… we like!  Of course Corvette tires are certainly specialized and not like other tires out there and it will be interesting to see how they are rated.

J.D. Power & Associates recently conducted an Initial Quality Study, focused on the quality of all vehicles produced for the U.S. market. Reports concluded that the big three have improved their vehicle quality by 10% since last year.

In fact, the GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant received its very own Bronze Award honors for its quality inspection. The assembly plant ranked 5th place internationally for overall vehicle quality! This Corvette and Cadillac XLR plant only averaged 43 vehicle issues out of every 100 vehicles produced (or a rating of 43 PP100). The industry average for initial quality problems was 108 per 100 vehicles produced.

Though 43 faults may seem quite high, this score was only surpassed by THREE plants, which included:

• Toyota’s Japanese plant (29 PP100)
• Honda’s Ohio plant (41 PP100)
• GM’s Ontario plant (42 PP100)
• Ford’s Kentucky Truck plant (43 PP100) and
• GM’s Bowling Green plant (43 PP100)

“High quality generally translates into reduced re-engineering costs and lower warranty expenses during a vehicle’s life cycle. High quality also enhances an automaker’s reputation for reliability, which is a critical purchase consideration for many consumers,” says David Sargent, J.D. Power and Associates’ vice president of automotive research.

Corvette Racing came to a lull when GM decided to cancel production on a Corvette-based prototype… the C7R LMP1.

The vehicle was expected to be apart of the LeMans “Evo” class, a combination of both the GT1 and LMP1 classes. Competition for this class would have included the Porsches, Ferraris, BMWs, Aston Martins, etc. However, plans for such Evo class were cancelled due to cost constraints and LMP1 teams failing to comply.

Vehicle models of the C7R LMP1 can be found on display within the Pratt & Miller facility in New Hudson, MI. We are only left now to dream about Corvette having had the opportunity destroy the competition at LeMans.

GM road-racing boss, Steve Wesoloski, comments on the lost Evo class. "I'm not giving up," Wesoloski said. "Overall [race] wins are still my target." He continues to inform that Le Mans organizations are working with GM, Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari to produce a class that allows all four companies to compete.

The New York Times is reporting today that the National Highway Traffic Safety Admistration has stepped us safety investigations related to three specific models, one of them being the Chevrolet Corvette.

Specific to the Corvette investigation, they are looking at about 48,000 Vettes from 2005 and 2006 model years.  Some owners had claimed that the stability control system malfunctioned causing a sudden and inappropriate braking action without illumination of the brake lights, causing the vehicle to swerve left or right.

Currently there is no announcement from GM on any specific recall related to this problem.  Right now it seems like the NHTSA is checking everything out and we should hear more soon.  Any Corvette-specific recall information can ALWAYS be found on CorvetteBlog.  Stay tuned.

2004 proved to be a very good year for Corvette Racing after having dominated competition within 24 Hours of Le Mans, 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, and at multiple ALMS championships. That same year, the racing team began using a skull logo and the motto, “Take No Prisoners”, to clearly emphasize their power within the racing world.

This representation was taken to the next level a year later when the Corvette Racing team and BadBoyVettes, a group of dedicated fans, came together to promote and enhance the themed skull (Jake) and tagline. Jake’s creation, straight off Eddie Jabbour’s cocktail napkin, came at the perfect time as the powerful Corvette C6-R was introduced that very same year.

And so, Jake, a dark skull outline with Corvette flags for eyes, was born. He became Corvette’s official racing logo, having had his first appearance on the C6-R at the 2005 24 Hours of Le Mans. To this very day, he continues to represent Corvette Racing.

Put these together and you get a recipe for SUCCESS at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Man’s GT1 class race. Not only was this a proud win for Corvette, but it also marked history for driver Johnny O’Connell, who is now the first American driver to ever win four GT1 class titles at Le Mans.

"When you look at the Americans who have won here multiple times, they're all important figures in motorsports history," O'Connell said. "To achieve my fourth win with Corvette Racing, driving a sports car that's an American icon, it's hard to put that into words. There is nothing more difficult and more rewarding than winning here, and sharing it with two awesome drivers like Jan and Antonio."

In second place was the white #73 Corvette. And, third place went to an Aston Martin DBR9. Had the black #64 Corvette not pulled out three hours prior to the end due to transmission trouble, the race would have marked a Corvette Racing sweep… But hey, there’s always next year!

Still, these GT1 class wins mark the 16th year of podium finishes for Corvette Racing at Le Mans since 2000.

• 2010 Corvettes:  Th only constraint to report for ordering is the 70U Torch Red option.  It is a new color introduction and they are ramping it up.  Only 10% of available orders this week will be able to order Torch Red.

• Route:  140 miles, roundtrip along California’s US Route 101
• Speed:  55 mph (10 under)
• Fuel Type:  18-gallon tank with 91 octane gas
• Additional:  Cruise control used, no A/C, windows up

The Results

• Avg. speed:  52.8 mph
• Avg. mpg:  32.8 mpg!!!!!!!!

WOW!! To measure 32.8 mpg on the highway is close to what a 2008 Ford Focus clocks. Pretty spectacular for a super car like Corvette to get similar results!

General Motor’s Bowling Green Assembly Plant produced its 1,500,000th Corvette on May 28, 2009. The special announcement was made at a Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association June meeting.

“The 1.5 millionth Corvette is a great example of how Chevy is America’s Brand,” says Chevrolet’s Product Marketing Director, Karen Rafferty. “For nearly 60 years we have built America’s Sports Car and this milestone is a solid proof point.”

In keeping with tradition, the historic 1,500,000th Corvette was built identical to the first, 500,000th, and 1,000,000th Corvettes ever built. Each are assembled with a black convertible top, white body, 3LT body style, and red interior.  What a neat idea and tradition!  More photos of the event after the jump!

Slowly but surely details about the pricing of the 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe & Convertible are coming out.  Today we learned starting prices on both the Coupe and Convertible, after last week we learned of the starting prices of the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.

• The 2010 Corvette Coupe will begin at $49,880 (including DFC)
  
• The 2010 Corvette Convertible will begin at $54,530 (including DFC)

We've been getting a lot of great comments and phone calls about the detailed pricing breakdown of all of the options and trim levels.  We've yet to get that detailed information from Chevy, but rest assured the minute it is released we'll have a post for you and begin custom quoting your 2010 Corvettes for you personally.

Well, we all knew it was coming and the shoe dropped yesterday with GM declaring Bankruptcy.  We can debate back and forth as to the merits of that or what led the company to be in the position it is in today, or we can chose to look forward.  Pardon us for toting the 'company line' but we do, truly believe, that GM will be bigger and better yet once it gets through this process.

Throughout the entire process, we will keep you, our valued readers, informed of anything we hear from the dealer-side of things, and appreciate all of your comments and concern.  We are not shutting down, we did not receive any letter saying we were to close.

Today we got the first word on the starting prices of the new 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.

• The Grand Sport Coupe will start at $55,720 (including DFC)
• The Grand Sport Convertible will start at $59,530 (including DFC)

The hottest topic on CorvetteBlog right now is the 2010 Corvette, and rightfully so.  The specific interest has been in the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.  We have all the details you need about the hottest addition to the Corvette family.

Let's go over some of what we know.  First of all, the Grand Sport will be available in both coupe and convertible, in every trim level (1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and 4LT). The most defining aspect of the Grand Sport has to be it's aggressive look and wider track than the current C6.  It will have a unique fender design and the Grand Sport badge will appear in the cove.  There will be a front splitter and tall rear spoiler.

The Grand Sport offers a Heritage package with fender hash mark stripes (4 stripe colors) and special two-tone seats with "Grand Sport" embroidery as an available option.  Every exterior and interior color will be available to order. 

Technically speaking, the Grand Sport will have functional brake ducts and additional cooling.  It has larger 6-piston 14" front and 4-piston 13.4" rear brakes, both with silver painted calipers.  The manual Coupe version will have a Z52 dry sump package with a rear battery.

Now a little bit about the wheels and tires.  There will be three Grand Sport specific wheels:  Silver, Competition Gray and Chrome.  It will come with the wider sized Goodyear F1 supercar tires (275/35-18x9.5 and 325/30-19x12)

There are many benefits to the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.  First, there is a greater lateral acceleration.  The standard is .92 g, the previous Z51 offered .98 g and the Grand Sport comes in at 1.0 g.  It gains 0.2 seconds in the 0-60 test versus standard Corvettes  (4.0 vs 4.2).  All of this and even 26 mpg highway rating vs 24 mpg for Z06.

• 70U Torch Red, the new red for Corvette is in a color ramp up schedule, meaning very limited quantities over the first 4 build weeks.
   
• 315 Cashmere Custom Leather Interior, available on 4LT Corvettes, 3LZ Z06's and 3ZR ZR1 Corvettes will have a late availability, so no orders yet available.
   
• US8 Radio is available with very limited quantities if ordered on a 3LT or 4LT Corvette and 2LZ or 3LT Z06.  The US9 or U3U radios will not be constrained at all on these trim levels.
   
• US9 Radio is available with very limited quantities if ordered on a 1LT or 2LT Corvette, 1LZ Z06 and 1ZR ZR1.

The very FIRST 2009 Competition Sport Package Z06 was raffled off last week courtesy of the National Corvette Museum. The lucky ticket #54 won William Leighton of The Woodlands, Texas this beautiful Z06 prize.

This raffle was yet another event planned to continue the weeklong C5/C6 Birthday Bash celebration! Tickets for the raffle cost $450 each, though the vehicle equates out to a $77,500 purchase. Mr. Leighton, lucky enough, also has the option to receive his new prize at the museum in a celebratory delivery fashion. Not too shabby!

Funds from the raffle go toward purchasing the next museum’s raffle car. General Motors graciously gave the museum the opportunity to buy the first Z06 for the event. “We are excited to have the first VIN representing this extraordinary Corvette model to use as a fundraiser,” states NCM Executive Director, Wendell Strode. “We appreciate the allocation from our friends at GM allowing us the chance to purchase this car for use as a fundraiser, and look forward to meeting the winner when they take delivery at the Museum. Purchasing and owning a Corvette ZR1 gives you the automatic privilege of taking your gorgeous ride out for high-speed cruises often so all can view you in your prize vehicle.

One Texan man did just that, though the cruise did not end in his favor. Instead, the accident resorted him to auctioning off his precious ZR1 on eBay. Apparently the accident caused havoc to the driver’s rear side and rear bumper. The rest of the damages seem rather minimal. The structural damage and suspension repairs can easily be fixed and replaced, with proper funding of course.

Bid now for this bruised (though fixable) Cyber Gray ZR1 on eBay. With only a bare 1,200 miles clocked, she can be yours for only $97,500! Any takers?

Fritz Henderson, CEO of General Motors, recently spoke out regarding the positive future that lies ahead for Corvette sales.

Despite the hold on production for the C7 Corvette, there are still avenues for triumph in the Corvette realm. The current beautiful C6 Corvette is a huge plus for the company. General Motors has aimed to put their complete effort into changing the C6 platform as many times in order for the vehicle to “maintain its leadership position”. No plans for future C6 Corvette improvements have been voiced… yet.

Rumor has sprung. A Corvette body-style switchover will be made at the GT2 class in the American Le Mans (ALMS). The new body of the Corvette C6.R GT2 will offer more of a resemblance to that of the Corvette ZR1.

Competition for Chevrolet remains fierce among the Porsches, Dodge Vipers, Ford GTs, and BMW M3s. There are high hopes that the new ZR1 body-style may be just the appropriate means to dominate the competition.

Take a look at the photo. You will notice a modified front grille, new bottom diffusers, and a larger spoiler off the back. The current 6.0-liter LS7 engine will soon be replaced in 2010 by a 5.5-liter LS3 engine producing up to 500 horsepower!

Jason Castriota, a New York-born Italian automobile designer, has begun filming a mini-documentary (Project M) centered around what it entails to build a vehicle from start to finish. Kinetic Fin is producing the film “Mantide” which aims to compliment and address the stunning work and new era of Stile Bertone, an automotive styling studio located in Caprie, Italy.

Their vehicle of choice to build… Corvette ZR1!

Only 500 Corvette ZHZ were ever made for the Hertz car rental company. Now the fleet is down one more after a Corvette rental driver sped out of control within a Philadelphia neighborhood, hitting 8 parked cars along the street curve. The crash occurred Wednesday, April 8th just before 4:00am.

And who might this genius driver be? Well, we don’t know. That individual had already fled the scene before neighbors, police and paramedics even arrived. Injury from the crash must have occurred after blood was found on the driver-side’s airbag.

This is the third Corvette ZHZ from the Hertz fleet to be totaled within an accident. Hopefully the third, and last!  Click here to see our previous coverage of a similar event.  Also, check out the video after the jump.

Steve Wesoloski, GM Road Race Group Manager addressed a group of car enthusiasts at the 12 Hours of Sebring’s Corvette Corral. He clued the crowd in about the future 2009 season of Corvette Racing.

He also stressed the importance of tying the technology of racing back into production, and ultimately marketing. This methodology is just what GM incorporates into their racing success.

Nevertheless, “racing sells cars”. And the more car sales made, the better the automotive industry is within our economy. Right?

AOL is speculating today that GM, as in Government Motors, may kill off the Corvette!

CorvetteBlog would see that as a serious concern for Corvette enthusiasts the world over.  However, at this point, there is nothing official from Chevrolet that Corvette will have to go.

With its excellent gas mileage numbers, the Corvette's fuel economy may actually be what saves it.

The transformations they have made will increase engine cooling while improving the vehicle’s downforce capabilities. Z03 engine options include:

Looking to purchase a new Corvette? Well even if you’re not, the government REALLY wants you to! Even though the automotive industry is in the midst of extremely difficult times, there is still good news from the government for interested car buyers.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced that individuals who purchase new cars will be able to deduct state and local sales and excise taxes from their 2009 tax returns. Still interested? To qualify, the new vehicle must be purchased between the window frame of February 16, 2009 to January 1, 2010.

The IRS is hoping that this tax deduction incentive will aid the automotive industry during their recent down times, while still helping to offset consumer expenses. IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman quotes, “For those thinking about buying a new car this year, this deduction may give them a little more drive to make their purchase this year. This deduction enables taxpayers to buy now and get cash back later on their tax returns.”

Do you think the IRS is making the right move by instituting this deduction? Maybe this will do some good. But, is there really any hope for the automotive industry afterall?

GM announed that they were planning to reduce production to align with market demand, meaning that many assembly plants will be ideled in the coming weeks so that inventory can catch up with demand.  We've just learned that the Bowling Green Assembly Plant, home to the Corvette, will be one of the most severly impacted plants that GM has.

The plant will be down 9 weeks.  The downtime weeks are as follows:  5/4, 5/11, 6/1, 6/8, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 8/3, 8/10.  These new operating plans have also revised the buildout and startup schedules for the 2009 and 2010 Corvettes.

The new revised buildout for the last 2009 Corvettes will be July 28th, 2009.  The new revised startup for the 2010 Corvettes will be July 29th, 2009.

Great News Just Announced!  GM has expanded the current Lease Pull Ahead Program from 2 months to 4 months.  That means if you are in a GMAC SmartLease or SmartBuy contract, we will pay up to 5 of your remaining payments if your lease expires no later than 10/31/2009.

Previous to today's announcement, GM was only covering 2 payments, so this is a nice incentive for those of you who have been holding out to have more of your payments waived, or to get out of your lease before you go over mileage.

This morning Chevrolet announced a Customer Satisfaction Program for some 2008 and 2009 Corvette Convertibles.  This is a program similar to a recall but not as formal.  If you're having the problem, and have a vehicle that qualifies, you can have the repair done at no cost by installing a newly designed retainer bracket.  Here's the details...

Certain 2008 and 2009 model year Corvette manual or power roof Convertible vehicles may have a condition in which the fabric roof cover may begin to separate from its retainer bracket near the top edge of the windshield.  When the vehicle reaches speeds of approximately 100 mph or greater, the roof cover could begin to pull away from the retainer bracket and, depending on the speed of the vehicle and duration at that speed, could tear into the rear glass.  If this were to occur, the headliner would remain intact and the roof cover would not separate from the vheicle.

Vehicles Involved:  Only vehicles built within the following VIN breakpoints are involved:

• 2008 models from VIN breaks: 85117774 through 85135284
• 2009 models from VIN breaks:  95100002 through 95112678

Dealers will confirm whether your vehicle is eligible for the repair, as not ALL vehicles will be eligible.  GM will send a letter to all customers that are included in this program and all repairs must be made before May 31st, 2010.

The big news is that the 2010 Corvette will be officially revealed this Friday at 10 AM, and on Saturday at Noon!  A schedule of all the festivities at this weekend's Corvette Bash at the National Corvette Museum can be viewed at the official Museum website.

As we promised from an earlier blog, we have updated news regarding the National Corvette Museum’s expansion inside Bowling Green, Kentucky. When we last wrote, plans for the construction of the 70+ acres outside the current museum had just been approved and funding for the large project was in its early stages. That was then.

Now, the museum has plans to add on an additional 47,000 square feet to the building’s existing floor plans. The massive expansion and enhancement to the current facilities hopes to lure in more tourists and Corvette enthusiasts. The expansion will occur within the following sections: the Library and Archives, Corvette Store, Delivery Prep offices, Admissions, Hall of Fame, Conference Center and Café, and extra amenities that will accommodate public needs, such as bathrooms and storage lockers.

Labor Day weekend is the temporary date of completion for this project, which also just so happens to be the Museum’s 15th Anniversary! What a way to celebrate!  You can also watch a video of the expansion after the jump.

And so it was announced…The infamous LS9 engine now comes as a crate motor!

This revelation was announced at the 2008 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show, better known as SEMA. Every year the Las Vegas SEMA Show is infamous for showcasing high numbers of quality automotive specialty products, both new and improved.

This LS9 engine announcement is so new that it is not even recognized as an available purchase on the GM Performance Parts website yet. But, I do wonder how many individuals would be willing to make such a purchase… A $21,000 purchase! Such a sticker price comes with the notion that this supercharged engine can potentially produce 630 horsepower! You can never have enough horsepower, but do you think the price for it in LS9 form is much too costly?

Many of you have probably seen the national advertising GM is doing for their Spring Car Care promotion called GM Goodwrench & Go.  It is a great program, incentivized by GM, to encourage customers to come into dealerships to get oil changes and discounted services for $39.95 or less.

Customers receiving the direct mail piece from GM will be offered a $15 discount card that they can use at any GM dealership.  In addition, each customer who receives the mail piece will also get a voucher for $500 off on a new Chevy Vehicle (excluding ZR-1) that can stack with all 'coof our other rebates and incentives.  It's a nice little program and offer for the millions of people that receive the mailing (which should be hitting your mailboxes this week).

We are offering the program for all of our GM customers, but remember that the published pricing of $39.95 or less does not include Corvettes.  Because Corvettes use synthetic oil the pricing will be higher at dealerships.  Keep that in mind when you think you're going in to get the oil changed on your Vette.

The promotion runs from April 1st until June 30th, 2009 at participating dealers.

What can we really say about March sales?  There is good news amongst the doom and gloom.  With the weather getting nicer in many parts of the country and with incentives (including 0% on 2008 models) helping to move inventory, we can only hope that we have turned the corner and are going to see some additional growth in sales over the coming months.

March saw a 56% decline in sales versus 2008's figures, although there were more Vettes delivered in March than in any month since September of last year.  That's a bonus.  In total, however, 2009 sales since January 1st are still showing a 55% decline against 2008.

This year marks the 29th annual largest Corvette show, Corvettes at Carlislie. Each year this event takes place at the Carlislie PA Fairgrounds during the summer months. This year, the event is scheduled from Friday, August 28th through Sunday, August 30th. And in special attendance…Mario Andretti.

Andretti is a famous race car driver, and an icon to many. Do you know of a race car driver who has successfully dominated the four major racing categories: Formula One, IndyCar, World Sportscar Championship, and NASCAR? Well, Andretti was one of the two racers to ever do so. He has held quite a long career as a driver. In fact, for three decades in a row, he was named “United States Driver of the Year”. Quite an accomplishment and inspiration to all!

So if you’re a race car fan, it’d be in your best interest to leave the weekend of August 28th open. Your attendance at the Corvettes at Carlislie show will allow you to mingle with Andretti, get an autograph or two signed by him, and observe many other hot looking ‘Vettes.

We are shocked!  We are saddened!  We are frustrated!  We are amazed!  We are disappointed!

Rick Wagoner (seen here in better days), CEO of General Motors, was in effect, both heralded and vilified by the very same man, in today's presidential speech.  He was, indeed, offered up by the Obama administration as a "sacrificial lamb" (quoting Michigan's Governor Grandholm).

The president spoke of how General Motors has impressed the world with its return to quality, pointing to the Buick Division's recent accomplishments!  His words:

"No one can deny that our auto industry has made meaningful progress in recent years. Some of the cars made by American workers are now outperforming the best cars made abroad. In 2008, the North American Car of the Year was a GM. This year, Buick tied for first place as the most reliable car in the world."

The annual Chicago Auto Show is the largest North American auto show to date (seeing as our Detroit show was scaled back a tad). The show concluded its open public show back on February 22nd.  Along with the celebration of this being the 101st year of the show, numerous unique vehicles and concept cars were on showcase.

The most memorable concept vehicle revealed was the Corvette Stingray. Doesn’t her picture just make you drool?? Fans can find the Stingray in the movie Transformers II: Revenge of the Fallen where she plays a character named Sideswipe.

To understand every element she has to offer, Ed Welburn, General Motors Vice President of Design, was the individual chosen to unveil this baby for the first time ever. He stated, "This is purely a concept… I like our designers to feel free to bring forward ideas."

A recent road rally competition was administered between the Corvette ZR1, Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG Black Series, Lamborghini Murcielago LP640, and Viper SRT10. Predictions that the ZR1 would dominate this hoity-toity line of gorgeous competition were quite low. But boy was that forecast WRONG!

The ZR1 came in FIRST! The Murcielago took second, followed by the Benz SL65, and finally the Viper SRT10. Who wouldn’t want such a vehicle that performs well as an everyday ride but can compete with the world’s best, and at a lower sticker price?

The first ZR1 manufactured is labeled as a 2009 vehicle, though it originally came out at the end of last year. The lightweight carbon-fiber components make this vehicle a go fast ride. The carbon-ceramic brakes and supercharged 6.2L engine that puts out 638 horsepower makes this beautiful Corvette the most expensive of its kind.

The 13th annual Polk Automotive Loyalty Awards were held at the end of January in Detroit. Polk is known throughout the worldwide automotive industry for their ability to guide automotive manufacturers in identifying market trends and how to best market vehicles to consumers. The company focuses their marketing attention to all cross-functional parts of the industry’s team, which includes manufacturers and dealers, aftermarket, finance and insurance providers, media companies, advertising agencies, government agencies, and research firms.

All in all, it’s quite an honor to be recognized by such a prosperous global firm. Well, General Motors was one of the few to gain such recognition at this year’s award ceremony. The car manufacturer was awarded for their Overall Loyalty to Manufacturer. "GM's high loyalty rates are partially driven by a wide range of vehicles available among its seven makes," said Melissa Travers, manager of Polk's Loyalty Solutions team.

Not only was GM honored, but so was our beloved Corvette, receiving the Luxury Sports Car honor for most Loyal Customers.  The picture above shows Stephen Polk, the Chairman and President of R.L. Polk & Co. with Karen Rafferty, the Product Marketing Director for Chevy Mid-Size & Sports Cars.  This award is no surprise to all of us Corvette enthusiasts.  Once you own a Corvette how could you ever buy anything else?

Other car manufacturer winners included Honda, Toyota, Chrysler, Lexus, Chevrolet, Ford, and Subaru. This was GM’s ninth consecutive honor at the Polk awards. Congrats to GM for another prestigious award!

The standard 6.2L V8 Corvette has recently seen an upgrade courtesy of Callaway Cars. Now in business for 20 years, this company specializes in creating “commercial value by providing driving enthusiasts with maximum satisfaction”. The new kit, available on the 2009 Corvettes, boosts the vehicle’s horsepower to 580hp. This amount of pure horsepower allows the vehicle to reach high speeds of up to 200 miles per hour!

The LS3 V8 Corvette even witnessed tremendous output with the addition of Callaway’s supercharged package. The vehicle was able to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in only 3.5 seconds. Better yet, the vehicle was able to make it across the quarter mile in only 11.2 seconds time, flying at speeds up to 124 miles per hour. Incredible!

For this $18,900 supercharge package, Callaway aims to improve the vehicle, while also improving overall customer satisfaction. Would you be willing to pay for this luxury for your ‘Vette? With constant improvements, there’s no doubt that this company will keep progressing forward. In fact, just recently they were able to open shop in Corona, California.

So, what do we really know about the 2010 Corvette?

The 2010 Corvette will be another C6, with likely the same four models to be offered: Coupe, Convertible, Z06, and ZR1.  Also keep in mind, though, that Vette, "America's Favorite Corvette Magazine," stated in a blog back on January 21, that "industry sources" were indicating that Chevrolet would announce a 2010 Grand Sport at the new model preview in April!  That would make five exciting models!

We are still hoping to see the C7 no later than the 2012 Model Year, but that is less sure now than before.

It is expected that the powertrains will not change for 2010, and that there will be no new technologies being inaugurated on the 2010.  A Grand Sport might change all that.

In regard to color, we know that Victory Red Metallic is gone, but since Red has a long and fabled history with Corvette, there will have to be a new Red for the year.

Dealers discover their allocations on May 20, will be allowed to order on May 21, and hope to have complete ordering information soon.  The first day of production is scheduled to be June 22.

We will report additional information as it becomes available, perhaps after that April preview.

Barrett Jackson visited us all again for another year during the middle of January 2009. As you may recall last year at Barrett Jackson, the big hype was placed on the $1,000,000 auction sale of a brand new 2009 ZR1 Corvette.

This year’s Scottsdale automobile auction brought about an older array of Corvette sales. Tuesday’s bidding began with the auctioning off the hot 1990 Corvette ZR-1, equipped with an active suspension. This vehicle was a crucial tool that GM engineers utilized to demonstrate hydraulic suspension systems. Only fifteen of the 1990 ZR-1’s were ever built, and the one that was auctioned off is one of two that is still in existence. “It’s a very important car to us,” claims retired GM engineer, Bob Johnson, who worked on the active-suspension project. “It’s a very, very sophisticated car.” The ZR-1 was auctioned off for $150,000.

Then, there was the 1989 DR-1, a convertible ZR-1 prototype, which dates back to the C4 Corvette era. This ‘Vette was the top seller out of the Corvette clan, and was auctioned off for $286,000. The 1989 ZR-1 Coupe press car, brought in a pretty penny too, selling for $198,000. Rick Hendrick was in attendance at the auction and paid up on yet another 1989 ZR-1 Coupe for $176,000.

The ZR-1s, however, were not the only type of Corvettes at the auction. Check out the complete list after the jump.

Though no Corvettes raised close to one million at this year’s Barrett Jackson, the above auctioned off vehicles prove that the Corvette heritage collection still has GOT IT!

The C6 Corvette Coupe recently underwent a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash test. The C6 was hit broadside on the driver side of the vehicle to test its endurance. Following the hit, results from the C6 showed that the body of the vehicle held up relatively well. Take a look for yourself at this 15 second YouTube video.

The Corvettes are back in business! Just recently, General Motors has resumed production on the 2009 Corvettes, focusing their attention on the popular ZR1

The Bowling Green assembly plant, home to where these beautiful machines are built, initially shut down for the few past months in an attempt to cut costs. Since a number of GM vehicles remain at a standstill on dealership lots, why produce more? GM has also taken action and decided to reduce costs by slowing down the rate of Corvette production. Now, instead of building 18.5 Corvettes each day, only 15 are produced daily.

The focus on Corvette production has been geared toward the ZR1… and with good reason! The ZR1 has recently been chosen as one of 2009’s top ten World Performance Cars of the Year. Over 50 international journalists nominate their top performance vehicles of choice for this award. Happily, the ZR1 was one of their top favs!

The question is being asked more and more: What exactly do we know about the 2010 Corvette?

If you visit the factory website, the link to upcoming vehicles focuses on the new Equinox, the Orlando, the Volt, the Camaro, and the Cruze, but not the Corvette.

Well, we know that the original predictions of a mid-engined C7 Corvette coming in 2010 were a pipe dream.  Do you remember reading AutoSpies back in August 2007, with that prediction?  Even before the financial challenges to GM became so obvious, production of a new C7 Corvette, whether mid-engined or not, had been postponed at least a couple of years.

Some websites in the fall predicted that there would likely be no changes to speak of at all.  ConsumerGuideAuto fell into that category.

Sports car enthusiasts who love General Motors products are losing their non-Corvette optional choice after the current model year is over.  As announced yesterday in Autoweek, the Cadillac XLR will be no more after this year's run.

Likely one of many moves to reduce overhead during GM's revitalization, the XLR was sometimes preferred by those who loved Corvette performance, but wanted more evidence of luxury in their car, or who desired  the angular styling of Corvette's sibling.  I recall one XLR owner coming many miles to my dealership to consider a trade for a Corvette, though, because he now knew his car wasn't just a Corvette with a different body.  In his thinking, it was just a Cadillac.  I am sure he wasn't alone.

By the way, you do know that the letters of the name of this Cadillac are a pun, don't you?  If you have never said it aloud before, combine the name with the engine's cylinder count, and say XLR8!

While GM has yet to release the official pricing into their ordering systems for the CSC Competition Sport Corvette, our friends over at Jalopnik have come across the details, which we can share with you now.

The 1LT Coupe with Z51 and the CSC package will be $55,655.  The 1LZ Z06 model with the CSC package will be $77,500.  Both prices include destination fees.

Though shipments of the Corvette ZR1 were said to be limited to over sea countries of the Middle East, the Royal Bahraini family will be the very first to receive the gorgeous sports car. The family is famous for their notoriety and wealth within the oil business. With oil as a main source of wealth and power there, General Motors may be stupid to NOT open their doors to Middle Eastern customers who are ready and willingly able to pay the price for a brand new 2009 ZR1.

So maybe Fadi Ghosn, Chief Marketing Officer at GM Middle East, had it all wrong when he said that, “This year, a limited number of vehicles will be available in the region…” What are your thoughts? Do you think the ZR1 has the potential to grow big overseas, especially within the regions of the Middle East?

The Transformers movie sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, is set to hit movie theaters come June 26, 2009. To go along with the movie’s release, General Motors plans on creating an actual tangible Corvette Centennial to help celebrate GM’s 100th anniversary within the automotive industry.

In an attempt to market the Transformers movie to younger viewers, rumor also has it that transformer toy robots will be created and available within stores nationwide before the movie’s release date. These robots are just another way to create hype for the viewers about the upcoming Transformer movie. Of these robots, Sideswipe, one of the Transformer characters, is said to convert out of the Centennial Corvette concept vehicle. Pretty cool!

Ron Musing is now the proud owner of a 1971 Corvette, nick-named “Captain America”.

Before Musing, the car’s previous owner, Red Johnson, had installed a LS7 454 engine into the ‘Vette. Now if you didn’t know, there were only 20 LS7 engines ever produced, and they were never intended to be put into vehicles, but instead, boats. This LS7 engine allowed the vehicle to produce 460 horsepower. However, Johnson never saw his machine roar because he simply never drove it. He would leave it within the confinements of his garage and rev it up every so often just to hear her purr.

When Musing purchased the 1971 Corvette from Johnson, he paid a grand whopping total of $6,000!! The special installed LS7 engine was only accepting of octane-106 gas, which forced Musing to travel to the only one distant service station to fill up the tank.

Now after 25 years of driving the beast, Musing has decided to take her to the next level, changing her look and making her a more reliable, fuel-efficient drive. Coating the Corvette in a new color of red brought her back to life. And having installed beneath her hood a 502-inch GMPP crate motor, allows her now to reach 500 horsepower!

Quite an upgrade, we'd say.

Within Nürburg, Germany lies an infamous racetrack originally built in the 1920s called the Nürburgring. The track is considered the most dangerous racecourse because of all its blind corners and uneven asphalt surfaces. The entirety of the Nürburgring consists of four separate tracks: Gesamtstrecke, Südschleife, Nordschleife, and Zielschleife. These courses all vary in length, some only 4 miles long while others span to over 15 miles in length.

Numerous areas on the track itself are deemed too dangerous for just the average driver. With prior experience behind the wheel and pure precision, it is imperative for racers to map out the Nürburgring’s default areas in order to avoid deadly accidents.

To give you a little background insight of the track, I’m going to explain three areas, which are most dangerous to even the experienced seasoned race car driver.

• Quite a large jump lies at the road spot, Quiddelbacher-Hohe to Aremberg. For instance, a Corvette ZR1 entering this jump can be at prior speeds of up to 145mph. So in order to land correctly, braking precision before the big leap is imperative.
   
• Another spot, Metzgesfeld to Wehseifen, consists of a set of multiple complicated turns. Some drivers demand speeds of less than 50mph in order to take these turns properly, not ending up off the beaten path.
   
• And close to the public road lies Brunnchen to Eiskerve, a popular spot for spectators and video newscasters to view the race. This area, however, consists of quite a tight turn and can be very dangerous, especially with bystanders standing just feet away from these racing machines.

Fort Collins (Colorado) Habitat for Humanity is raffling off a 2009 Corvette 3LT Coupe.  This coupe features the 6-speed paddle shift automatic transmission and chromed aluminum wheels.

Participation is limited to just 1000 tickets at $100 apiece.  The Corvette winner will be drawn at the local Chevy dealer in Fort Collins, Dellenbach Motors, on Saturday, September 12.

Blogging online allows for opinions to be heard on a broad scale, from the good, the bad, and from the ugly. The Corvette ZR1 is often glorified on this site, being that it is a Chevrolet Corvette dealership blog site! However, the ZR1 recently heard the wrath of a Motor Trend blogger, Arthur.

Though Arthur writes about his distasteful appetite for the ZR1, he does begin the blog by mentioning that the ZR1 proved to be an unbeatable fast car, having destroyed recent competition, which included the Ferrari 599 GTB, the Porsche GT2, and the Nissan GT-R. Check out the video for yourself!

Now even though the ZR1’s performance blatantly surpassed the other elite sport cars, this critic continues to bash the GM manufactured vehicle. He says, “It’s not without cause that the Ferrari and the Porsche command such kingly sums-especially in comparison with the brash bolide from Bowling Green. The driving experience they offer is simply unmatched by the ZR1.” Really Arthur?

Complaints about the ZR1’s obnoxiously loud engine, glue factory smelling cockpit, and full-bore V8 engine continues to ensue throughout the article. All options aside, wouldn’t you rather purchase a less expensive, American-made vehicle that carries more speed than a haughty-toity European super car?? Which would you prefer?

Jeremy Clarkson, an English journalist and broadcaster, is not afraid to speak his mind, which is often the public’s opinion too. With his specialty on motor vehicles, he is famous for his entertaining television show, Top Gear, as well as his witty weekly columns within the Sunday Times and The Sun.

This motor critic usually despises anything American made. However, he just recently broadcasted, “out of nowhere, my car of the year” is the Corvette ZR1! Though Clarkson thinks “it’s not built very well” and costs too much, he finds the vehicle “both docile and extraordinarily savage” as well as a great deal performance-wise.

He compares the generations of Corvettes in previous years to McDonald’s Big Mac. It’s “cheap, plastic and at the right time, and in the right place, sort of just what you want.” General Motors has indeed come quite a way with their development of the ZR1 beast. Though Clarkson sees the vehicle as an epic car, the current state of the automotive industry will likely affect Corvette’s production. Clarkson states, “I’m only sad that unless the health care and pensions company that makes it [Corvette ZR1] can be turned around, it will be the last of the breed.”

At November’s Los Angeles Auto Show, n2a Motors Inc. unveiled their latest model, the Anteros. The body style of this vehicle is rather unique, and takes on characteristics of multiple foreign produced vehicles. What makes this vehicle rather stunning is to know that it’s built directly off of a 2009 Corvette platform!

This month marked the initial beginning of Anteros deliveries to be shipped to their eager awaiting owners. The vehicle takes up to 12 weeks to build, and comes straight from a Corvette body. In fact, the first step requires the body panels of the Corvette to be removed before installing the Anteros’ special carbon-composite body! Installing this carbon-composite framework is a process indeed, taking up to 800 hours to complete!

Custom built to resemble a 1953 Corvette, the Avelate Concept Corvette is mounted on a 1999 C5 chassis, and is one of just three built!  Rare as they are, Avelate Corvettes were promoted in Dupont Registry Magazine (2003), Corvette Magazine (May 2004), Vette Magazine (March 2004), and the 2007 Exotic Sports Cars calendar.

This vehicle, in the upcoming Russo and Steele Scottsdale Auction, has a hand-built custom body.  Custom leather interior, custom paint, hand-built front and rear bumpers, side trim, grill, tail lights, headlights, custom wheels, knock-offs, exhaust, and more complete the build.  Of the three Avelate Corvettes, this car is the only custom version.  It is definitely one of a kind!

It will be interesting to see the bids on this beauty!

Barrett-Jackson is a collector car auction, which originated over 30 years ago. It has come to be known worldwide as “The Greatest Car Show on Earth.” People from all over the world come to Scottsdale, Arizona to bid on collector cars, some of which are so vintage that only limited quantities were ever produced. In recent years, the automobile auction has opened its doors, and has begun to auction off boats, rock and roll collector items, and other timeless material.

The auction this year is set to begin on Sunday, January 11th and last an entire week until January 18th. Along with the numerous vehicles that are set to roll on and off the auction block, General Motors has included a 2009 Corvette ZR1 chassis to the list. This semi-constructed GM vehicle does not include any certificate of title nor any licensing agreements. The chassis comes only with a guaranteed bill of sale, and is not to be driven on public streets!

It sounds a bit rare to be buying a chassis of a vehicle; however, two other chassis will also be auctioned off. They include a 2004 GM Kappa chassis which outlines the Pontiac Solstice and the Saturn Sky, as well as a 1931 Oldsmobile chassis.

The 2009 Le Mans Racing consists of twenty-four hours of racing within the city of Le Mans, France. This year marks the 77th annual Grand Prix of Endurance Racing for this event, set to begin on June 13, 2009.

News originally aired back in the beginning of December, mentioning that the Corvette Racing Team would not be in attendance at the Le Mans races due to the reduction of budgeting expenses. Instead, the team was told to focus mainly on the production of the GT2 Corvette.

However, Program Manager Doug Fehan still wants to end racing the GT1 Corvette in high standards and stats before the introduction of the ultimate Corvette GT2. Therefore, plans have dramatically flipped, and now the Corvette GT1 has been committed to Le Mans June racing.  Despite the recent turn of events, conception plans for the GT2 have not been altered or put on hold. The vehicle’s production is still full throttle ahead. “Engineering and fabrication continues to focus on the GT2 program,” says Fehan. “We expect the first actual car to be completed in early February, and we will be testing that car in the spring.”

"Between dialing for dollars on Capitol Hill, dealing with PR flaps over corporate jets, getting the Volt to market, picking up the tab for decades of mistakes, the world financial crises, and just trying to keep the lights on, I doubt Rick Wagoner and Company have had much time to worry about a little deal like the Corvette.  But I have my concerns."

So wrote Matt Stone about the company that builds this beautiful 2009 Corvette ZR1 in a recent (11/27) Motor Trend Magazine editorial.

While we await the decisions to be made by those in Washington, D.C. next week (?), who have had an excessively large part in creating the troubles of the American automobile industry in the first place, you may enjoy reading Stone's concerns.  Before you jump to the rest of his editorial, though, I just have to say: Why do I not hear anyone saying that the federal government is to blame because of its ridiculous mandates to create high gas mileage out of thin air?  For years and years, they have raised the CAFE level, requiring financial investment for technological development that profits did not allow.  Shame on that swamp on the Potomac!

Corvette Racing has a new addition to the team, a successor of the GT1, the powerful GT2 Corvette C6.R. It took only a year after the GT1 was constructed that plans were in the making to include a GT3 version of the vehicle. Now we have ourselves the GT2, which fits right in between the two latter models.

Next year proves to be the changeover period from the GT1 class to the new GT2. Now with the engineering complete, the vehicle is currently in the process of being assembled. With minor changes including a smaller rear wing and steel brakes, the team is thoroughly excited to see just how she purrs on the tracks. The team plans to have the GT2 revealed in her inaugural run on the mid-Ohio tracks at the Acura Sports Car Challenge in early August 2009.

Program manager, Doug Fehan, reassures audiences,

“Don’t look for us to dominate right out of the shoot – it’s not going not to happen… We know the challenges that lie ahead for a front-engine car and we are prepared to meet them. Let’s not forget too that we spent the first two years struggling with (the GT1) car. It took us awhile to us up to speed and we expect that same kind of learning curve. We are prepared for it.”

Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa said Friday that leaders of the big three automakers seeking a government bailout should do what former Chrysler chief Lee Iacocca did in cutting his own pay in 1979, when saving his company with the help of federal taxpayers.

“Lee Iacocca essentially worked for pennies to demonstrate leadership and forcefully prove to his colleagues that he was ready to make sacrifices to reinvigorate Chrysler,” Grassley said.  “Today’s executives could learn a lot from this example.  They should take every step possible, including cutting executive salaries and bonuses, and exhaust all alternatives before coming to the taxpayers for tens of billions of dollars in help.”

Grassley made his case in a letter sent to the CEOs of Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Chrysler.  The text of his letter of November 13 follows the jump.  If it were only so easy!  Not that we don't agree, but we need sacrifice and help to overcome the mess the U.S federal government chose to put the automakers in!  And, I cannot help but wonder what the good senator drives.

Where can you find the “Fastest 60 Acres in America”? Well, located in Phoenix, Arizona is Bondurant School of High Performance Driving. This driving school allows drivers to experience intimate handling under roaring high-speeds, tight turns, and other nerve-wrecking conditions. In fact, just this month, the school added the 2009 Corvette ZR1 to the 200 other fleet vehicles!!

A Bondurant 2-day training package now comes with the purchase of a ZR1. But for those of you who are not looking to purchase a $100,000 vehicle and would rather prefer a wild adrenaline rush, training lessons at the driving school start around $3,395.

The training begins inside the seat of a regular Corvette C6 Coupe, but then progresses as you absorb the information. Eventually, they move you up into the higher-powered Z06, and then ultimately into the ZR1. The school allows participants to spend 80% of their time on the tracks, too.

We have had quite a few questions from customers lately about the current incentives that GM is running and when they expire.  We thought we'd take a quick second to review what's available right now, and for how long.

2008 Corvettes & Z06s:  Currently there are a couple of options.  First, GM is offering 0% financing up to 48 months (for those qualifying), or 2.9% for 60 months, or 5.9% for 72 months.  If you don't want to finance with GMAC, then you have bonus cash options.

Many consumers view the Corvette ZR1 as an ultimate driving machine, designed and manufactured by Chevrolet. After all, it comes fully equipped with a 638 horsepower LS9 engine that can take you from 0 to 60 seconds within 3.4 seconds. The vehicle also carries relatively decent fuel economy: 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.

With all this great buzz on the new ZR1, what do the experts have to say?

Top Gear, an internationally recognized UK motor vehicle magazine, claimed both the good and the ugly. One of their lines claim, "Right, make no mistake. What we have here is one of the truly great supercars." It proceeds to mention that the vehicle has the highest car record for production cars on the Nürburgring. Quite an accomplishment!

However, Top Gear magazine proceeds to enter the ugly. They mention the ZR1 is not a vehicle that easily catches one's attention. Also, the ZR1's body style looks like the base of any Corvette, but yet the price of $100,000 is what makes this Corvette exclusive against the competition.

Corvette vehicle-line executive, Tom Wallace, says, "We're still working on future Corvettes, but the scope of change is not yet decided. There are changes, some neat stuff, coming for 2010 that I can't talk about yet."  When pushed for details on Corvette in light of new MPG mandates from the Federal government, Wallace replied that these concerns haven't "inhibited Corvettes. No one is saying we're not doing Corvettes. We're still bullish on Corvettes."

In the same interview with AutoWeek magazine, Tom also indicated that plans are NOT tied down for the next C7.  In fact, it is not even known when the C7 will appear, a great disappointment to those eagerly awaiting its reveal!  Thanks to an article from our partner in Corvette promotion, Keith Cornett at CorvetteBlogger.com, we were alerted to these ground-breaking insights on the next-generation Corvette.

So, hang on tight, while GM determines how to survive further into its second century.  Corvette is perceived to be an important part of GM.  Let us hope they continue to impress us!

A local Minnesota resident and Corvette owner, Michael Shoop, has recently converted his 1987 ‘Vette into an all-electric powered machine. The transformation of the vehicle began when he realized the benefits of purchasing a hybrid vehicle, but also the expensive costs that ensued. After researching and finding the ideal eco-friendly Prius to be a bit too pricy, Shoop began allocating his funding to a new project: the Volt Vette.

“I wanted a simple solution for driving around town and doing it in style,” claims Shoop.

With the generous help from the Minnesota Electric Auto Association, Shoop has successfully converted his V8 gas-guzzling sports ride into an all-electric, environmentally friendly joy ride. As of now, the vehicle tops out at 40 mph, and has been able to go 20 miles just on pure electric charge. Still, adjustments are in the process.

The overall project has only cost Shoop an average of $25,000. Now, just think, that price also negates any extra payments made at the gas pump. “You wouldn’t believe the smile on my face when I drive past the gas station,” he says. If you ask me… that’s a damn good deal for any eco-friendly Chevrolet Corvette!

Foremost, congratulations to General Motors! They celebrated their 100th birthday last month. In honor of their celebration, the auto manufacturer named off its top ten favorite vehicles since the company’s very beginnings.

Not surprisingly, the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette made the list!

The very first 1953 Corvette came off the production lines in Flint, Michigan. The entire Corvette body was hand built and constructed out of fiberglass. Though it was an attractive vehicle, its high costs and low performance ratings deemed the car unwanted. During the first year of its production, only 183 Corvettes were sold out of a total of 300 built.

Now, the 1953 Corvette was only one on the list of ten of GM’s favorites. The overall listing does not follow a ranking, as it is just arranged chronologically from latest to earliest in production year.

Blue Fusion, a long-time surfacing supplier to Ford Motor Company, has recently been busy electronically designing, digitally engineering, building and completely funding their latest project: the Rossi 66.

The Rossi ’66 is a culmination of the workings of a C6 Corvette and a Sting Ray. This vehicle incorporates the well-defined lines of the 1966 C2 split window Corvette. The body of the Rossi 66 has been built on the same supports as the current body styles of the C6, Z06, and ZR1. Blue Fusion is aiming to premier this beautiful, unique vehicle at a November SEMA event in Las Vegas.

With the current state of the economic crisis, government, companies, and even consumers nationwide are simply having to cut their spending in order to stay afloat. This threat is very real and does not exclude anyone from being affected by it.

Due to the crisis, General Motors has decided to hold off the production of Corvettes at the Bowling Green assembly plant during the week of October 6th. With the high prices of gasoline and numerous vehicles that remain stagnant on dealership lots, GM has also decided to lessen the production of Corvettes produced after the plant resumes to work the following week. Instead of producing 18.5 Corvettes every hour, the plant will slow down to 15 Corvettes every hour. Not only will work stop for a week and less vehicles will be produced, but also GM plans to layoff up to 75 workers from the Bowling Green facility.

Much of these plans came up very recently in order to cut back costs during such a trying time. The gloom of the economy is affecting everyone in some way. Like most of us, General Motors is just reacting to the crisis, planning ahead in order to stay afloat.

GM sent out a message to its dealers today letting them know that they are beginning to look into customer complaints with 2008 & 2009 Corvette windshields that have cracks, pits, are broken or distorted.  They have asked that dealers contact their GM representative immediately before replacing any windshields that could have one, or all of these problems.

As a result, windshields will be placed on parts return for a period of time.  When we have more information on any possible issues or recalls, we will be sure to let you know.

As we all know, car manufacturers are feeling the blunt of the market now with car sales at an all time low. In an effort to appeal more to consumers, General Motors has issued an increased warranty coverage on Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.

This new warranty will come standard on all GM Certified Used Vehicles or Saturn Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles as of September 13th. When a consumer now purchases a certified pre-owned vehicle, the new program offers a 12-month or 12,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty.  This includes all Certified Corvettes.

Now, maybe you’re thinking, what’s bumper-to-bumper mean? Well, the warranty will cover the entire vehicle excluding items that wear down over time and usage, such as tires and brakes. Pretty good deal, if you ask us.

GM also offers a powertrain limited warranty of 5-years or 100,000 miles on all 2007 or later vehicles. This package is exclusive and also provides consumers with 24-hour roadside assistance, free history report on a vehicle, 117-point inspection, and a customer satisfaction guaranteed period.

It's hard to believe it's been a month already since the 14th Annual Woodward Dream Cruise.  The outdoor cruise spans every year from Pontiac to Ferndale in Michigan, attracting millions of people to sit along the street to catch a glimpse of over 30,000 cool cruising cars. From muscle cars to custom-built cars to historic street rods, this enjoyable event allows one to see any and all variations of transportation as it has been changing throughout history.

A few of Royal Oak’s police vehicles really captured quite a bit of attention with their special Corvette rides. The first was a Jetstream Blue Metallic Corvette Z06 with sirens atop and POLICE painted across the side doors. But even better yet, their newest addition cop car is an Atomic Orange Corvette ZR1!

This vehicle is a powerful, impressive ride, though it only crept along at slow speeds so spectators could “ohhh” and “ahhh” at its stunning sight. These two go fast machines were in full patrol this past weekend. For all you go fast gurus, hopefully you were abiding to the law, and not speeding or burning that rubber!

For the past two years, General Motors Corp. has hosted the GM Style Event as a pre-party for the North American International Auto Show, held each year at the Cobo Center in Detroit. This event brought the rich and famous to Detroit with fabulous entertainment from folks such as Kid Rock, Mary J. Blige and others.

This year, however, GM has decided to call off the event in an effort to reduce costs. The cost cuts are being made to allow for the company to get through a trying time, in fact their slowest sales time. General Motors, like other automakers, are experiencing rough times due to consumers making the shift to purchasing cheaper, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

The loss of this event not only puts a damper on the auto show but also the city of Detroit’s profile. "Obviously we'd love to have it," said Joe Serra, senior co-chairman of the 2009 auto show. "But you've got to respect the business decisions they are making. It's one of those tough ones."

This is not the only event that GM has failed to promote due to their cost cuts. They have also decided not to promote at the Emmy Awards or next year’s Academy Awards. Marking research analysts say that the advertising cuts that GM have made are not surprising given GM's restructuring efforts.

Should we have expected any different?  Today GM announced they will extend their GM Employee Discount for Everyone incentive program through September 30th.  The program was originally set to end yesterday but late Tuesday they told dealers they would be pushing the program into September.

With expected lackluster sales for August, GM is hoping the incentive program, and the newly announced Lease to Buy Bonus Cash will sway current lessees and conquest customers into GM purchases.

Here's the break down on how the Corvette is impacted.  The GM Employee Discount offer is still available on all 2008 Corvettes and Z06's. 2009 models do not qualify for the discount.

GM'S Lease to Buy Bonus Cash gives current GMAC lessees $2,000 on all 2008 Corvettes & Z06's and $1,000 on all 2009 Corvettes & Z06's.  If you're coming out of a lease, it really is a sweet deal.

The current incentive and Bonus Cash offers end September 30th, 2008.

As we are all finding out fast, the economy seems to be revealing new unexplained problems to us on a more regular basis now. Part of the problem lies within the automotive industry, and the inability to sell cars to customers who can’t even afford fuel expenses.

When looking at the monthly delivery statistics on Corvettes this month, it’s not difficult to find that sales dropped EACH month from the previous year in 2007. The only month that acted as a savior to Corvette was August 2008 with a 47% increase from the previous year. This was the month that Chevrolet introduced the 0% financing and Employee Discount Program to all customers. There were a couple months where sales dropped 20-30% from the previous year.

With conditions worsening, GM is looking for anything to pick their Corvette sales out of the slumps. That is why the company has decided to extend the Employee Discount Program through this month!

GM announced the return of their GM Employee Discount for Everyone incentive program.  The program was the most successful rebate and incentive offer in GM's history when it was run back in 2005.  With times as they are now, GM dusted off the idea and has once again brought it to market.

The Employee Discount offer is available on all 2008 Corvettes and Z06's. 2009 models do not qualify for the discount.  The program runs through September 2nd, the day after Labor Day.

Dave Ressler, a Chevrolet dealer and Corvette enthusiast, continues to purchase new and auctioned off Corvettes to add to his growing collection. The Ressler family collection contains now up to 25 Corvettes of all varieties. Just recently, another was added to the count…

When the ZR1 entered center stage at the auction, the audience rose to gawk at this fine-looking vehicle. Jay Leno was present to announce all the car’s special features: a supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine, 620 horsepower, durable yet weight resistant carbon fiber hood and rooftop, and the exact same brakes as the Enzo Ferrari. This ZR1 Corvette is truly a collector’s item, as it is the only one painted a LeMans blue with a VIN number of #0001. All proceeds raised by this vehicle were given to benefit the United Way charitable fund. When the bidding began, Dave Ressler stood with all intentions of not going home without it. As the bidding climaxed out at $900,000, Ressler raised his own bid to $1,000,000 to secure his purchase. Quite an asset to add to the family collection!!

Good news for the 2008 Chevy Corvette Convertible owners! Just recently, HealthyCar.org completed an overall rating on the vehicle, and deemed it low concern to consumers’ health. The study is based off of numerous chemical findings, which may be embedded within the surface of your cloth seat, the carpet, or even on the surface of your steering wheel. Out of the 11 vehicle surfaces tested, chlorine was the only chemical found among the front seat and headliner surfaces.

Additionally, the vehicle gets a combined 18 miles per gallon: 15 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. With that kind of gas mileage, one simultaneously can save on fuel expense and protect their health.

Since the first details were released on the 2009 Corvette ZR1, there have always been rumors that anyone purchasing a ZR1 would get a free session at a High Performance Driving School.  We now have confirmation that every ZR1 purchase includes a free two-day driving school offer.

The offer will be valid for the original purchaser and be valid for 12 months from the delivery date.  The two schools that are part of the program are Bob Bondurant in Phoenix, AZ and Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Las Vegas, NV.  You can choose which you want to attend.

The purchaser will receive information at delivery including the name and phone numbers of each school's concierge to set up their dates.  Of course getting there and staying there is all up to you, but heck, a free two day high performance driving school is nothing to shake a stick at!

So let's say you aren't interested in the school but still purchase a ZR1, there will be no refunds or financial implications.  This is an offer everyone should take advantage of.
