Chevy finally officially announced details today surrounding the upcoming 2008 Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06!  There will only be 505 of these beauties made, with only 427 going to North America, meaning extremely limited production. 

Here are the specifics on what the 427 Z06 will have:

• Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat (89U) paint
• 3LZ Package with NEW Chrome Z06 wheels
• New Dark Titanium Leather Wrapped Interior
• Chrome Exterior Badges
• New Z06 sill plates
• Special Certificate of Authenticity
• Special Hydrographic pattern for the center trim plate
• Special Hood/Fascia stripe
• 427 Hood badges
• 427 Seat embroidery and floor mat embroidery
• Painted Z06 spoiler and Body Color door handles
• Wil Cooksey (former Corvette Assembly Plant Manager will handsign and number each vehicle inside the armrest)

With the North American International Auto Show in full Preview-mode now, we are getting some great glimpses of the 2009 Corvette ZR1!  Today, Eric Bryant of AutoBlog had a fantastic write up on the ZR1 Chassis that is on full display at Cobo Center.

Chevy went all out by stripping down the hot ZR1 and giving us the bare bones of why this car is as great as it is, labeling each individual part with a number and giving show-goers the ability to understand what everything is.

This is kind of random, but also very unique and fun to browse through.  The website, HowStuffWorks.com has a huge gallery of various Corvette pictures from its inception to now.

Now when I say gallery, I mean a growing collection!  When I started writing this article, there was 803 pictures, and now as I finish it, there are 807! We'll have to watch how this fluctuates.

When Hemmings celebrated "75 Years of American Automotive Styling" in the inaugural issue of Classic Car Magazine a few years ago, Corvette was included as an illustration. 

Hemmings wrote: "From a heritage and design standpoint that was uniquely Detroit came the incredibly American Corvette, which had established itself in the American car market before its first total redesign.  The one-year-only split-window treatment has progressed from the most controversial aspect of this car to its most desirable".

It was inevitable that Corvette limousines be created, right?  There are Hummer limo's and Chrysler 300 limo's.  There are even medium duty truck limo's these days. 

Sorry, but I wasn't really ready for Corvette limousines.  I saw this white 1994 vehicle at the GoldAuction at Bloomington Gold.  The black 1979 Vette (below) was pictured recently at corvetteblogger dot com.

Attractive and unusual prints and posters of Corvettes can be found at a Motor Trend website.  Their Artehouse Division provides art on about five dozen GM vehicles, with special attention being given to Corvette.

Some of the artwork is in black and white, while others are color.  Prices begin at about $18.

Corvette question for the day: how does the new Callaway Corvette convertible deal with the torque?

"Equipped with Callaway’s 560-hp supercharged 6.0-liter V8, the C16 Convertible is also available with an optional Performance Package that delivers 616 supercharged horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 582 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 rpm."

For years, Chevrolet has stated that the Z06 would not be made available in convertible form because of the massive amounts of torque applied to the body under power.  Clearly weight reduction was, and is, important to the Z06 to enable "drive out of the showroom" speeds of over 200 mph, so a convertible's mechanisms would not help in this regard.  In addition, the upper part of the body cage also helps ameliorate the contortions a high torqued powerplant would otherwise provide.

Clearly, the Callaway C16 Convertible challenges this assumption.  And it is beautiful, too!

As I wandered through the Detroit Autorama at Cobo Hall on Friday, looking for Corvettes, and in total amazement at the beautiful display of sheet metal and rolled fiberglass composite, I encountered a former client of mine.

As we chatted for a few, Larry Baker explained to me that he had acquired a vehicle in which I, as an author of the Corvette Blog, would be interested. And was he ever correct! He is an owner of a 50th Commemorative Corvette!

There were many beautiful Corvettes at the Detroit Autorama this past weekend!

One of my favorite Corvettes, without question, was the 789, manufactured by n2a Motors of Santa Ana, California.

The front of the vehicle resembles the 1957 full sized Chevrolet. The side resembles the 1958. The rear is all 1959 Impala. All of this is assembled on a C6 Corvette chassis. Honestly, it may not sound right on paper, but this vehicle is beautiful!

European Corvette lovers are aglow with the announcement this past Friday of a unique 2007 Corvette all their own!  According to the Dutch/Belgian website autowereld.com, the new Corvette Victory Edition (to be available in March) will celebrate Corvette's massive impact in automotive racing in Europe.

Just 250 units will be produced, each featuring a body color full width rear spoiler.  These Vette coupes will come in Black or Velocity Yellow and will be distinguished by Competition Grey aluminum wheels.  Interiors will be enhanced with two-tone leather, special door-sill plates, and carbon-look trim.

A 2007 Chevrolet Corvette convertible will pace the 91st running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 27, 2007.  Since it was selected as the Official Pace Car, Chevrolet will supply several identically prepared and uniquely trimmed Corvette convertibles – in new Atomic Orange paint with distinctive gold ribbon graphics – that will serve in the official pace duties of the race, as well as supporting activities.

All of the pace car replicas are equipped with the Corvette’s standard LS2 small-block V-8 and Z51 performance package.  A six-speed manual transmission is standard, with the six-speed paddle-shift automatic optional.  The navigation system with Bose audio, as well as OnStar, is standard.   Pricing for the pace car replica convertible is $66,995 MSRP, including destination.  The paddle-shift six-speed automatic is the only option, which brings the price to $68,245.

Just announced by Chevrolet today: the Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06 version will be available this spring. It carries an MSRP of $77,500, including destination. OnStar and the navigation system are the only options; and when equipped with them, the price is $79,945.

This special Corvette Z06 is the first signed special edition in Corvette’s 54-year history, and is the first Arctic White Z06 ever offered. Only 399 are planned for production: approximately 300 for the United States, 33 for Canada and 66 for other export markets.

Yes, the question is: "Do Celebrities Sell Cars?"

The General took a major flying leap to answer this question here in Detroit Saturday evening, January 6, by staging an impressive limited access venue called the GM Style Event.  On the banks of the Detroit River, under an elaborate tent next to the Renaissance Center, GM presented its newest bevy of concept vehicles and future product to approximately 1200 invited guests, in the company of eighteen or so Hollywood luminaries (Carmen Electra, Kristen Bell, Rosie Perez, etc.)

Autoblog covered it best.  See their amazing array of 216 high-resolution, paparazzi-style celeb shots.  Locally around Detroit, news coverage was all but non-existent.

The press is abuzz with the first photograph released of a beautiful 2008 Chevrolet Malibu interior.   The vehicle itself is to be revealed to the public at the North American International Auto Show in January.

Auto writer Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press reported (November 22): "The first picture of the car's interior reveals a far more upscale and inventive design than the current model's straightforward passenger cabin.  The interior features a dual-cowl dashboard reminiscent of Chevrolet's classic Corvette Stingray and a two-tone interior with optional leather trim."

This is kind of a neat tutorial for any of you Photoshop users out there. This Corvette fan used a picture taken at the Museum and changes the color of the classic Stingray Corvette. The Graphic Reporter, a fun web source for 'how tos' in graphics, starts:

I took a picture of a gorgeous Stingray not long ago at the Corvette Museum in Kentucky. The shot turned out beautifully, though, what if I wanted to change the car color to something else? It'd be easy enough if the turquoise was solid, but the car is shiny and contains reflections. You'd think making this car a bright purple would be a time-consuming and frustratingly tedious job. Not so my friends.

North American Car of the Year. That has a nice ring to it doesn't it? Well, DailySportsCar.com thought enough of the C6.R Corvette to give it the honor. The online magazine is considered a top source on racing and GT series coverage. The awesome yellow Compuware Corvette C6.R race cars raced to 10 of 11 victories last year.

In an article on WhoWon.com, I like the quotes that author Rick Voegelin highlights:

When you think of Daytona and everything awesome it represents, you always see inventive pace cars. This year is no different and boy do we have a great one. This year, a 2006 Z06 Corvette with one of the most striking paint jobs I've ever seen, with some down right dangerous looking led strobe lights for the top.
