Lingenfelter's Supercharged ZR1

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering of Decatur, Indiana has been around for over 30 years specializing in the performance engineering industry. Just this past December, the company achieved altering the fastest Corvette ever produced to go even faster.

After multiple altercations and LS9 supercharged enhancements, Lingenfelter’s 2009 Corvette ZR1 was ready to hit the Maryland International Speedway on the morning of December 7, 2009. Results?

First quarter-mile in 9.813 seconds at speeds of 145.74 miles per hour!!

The results blew everyone away, and can be attributed to the supercharger upgrades that included: cast aluminum air intake, 11-rib pulley, 11-rib harmonic balancer, upgraded air filter, four-inch diameter intake tube with mass air sensor and ported throttle body. Other modifications were made to the heat exchanger, intercooler reservoir, wheels and fuel system.

To see this baby in action, check out the video after the jump. Imagine sitting behind that steering wheel… Talk about adrenaline rush!

Nitrous-added C6 Explodes

Some Corvette enthusiasts just can’t seem to get enough.

For instance, the owner of this beautiful white C6 Corvette likely felt a need to impress his crowd of roaring fans. So, he made a simple (yet stupid) adjustment to his ‘Vette. He added a Nitrous Oxide System (NOS).

And look what happens… Don’t ruin your ‘Vette too. Be smart.  Check out the video after the jump.

Click here for NOS FAQs to consider before you repeat this dummy.

GM's May The Best Car Win Campaign

General Motors is finally stepping up to the plate with an innovative program to get conquest customers into the showroom.  If you haven't yet heard, they are offering a 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee through November 30th, 2009.

What this means is that if you take delivery of a new Chevy (say a Corvette for example), you keep it for 30 days and if you don't like it, you have between 31 and 60 days to return it to the dealership you purchased it from.  Chevy (and us) are confident you're going to love the new GM car you choose, and we're standing behind them.

The are a few stipulations to the program, including any negative equity, accessories, service contracts or any other additions that might be to the vehicle's purchase price must be paid for by the customer when they return the vehicle.  In other words, GM isn't picking up your negative equity or your accessories.  Other than that, for the most part, you are free and clear to turn it in.  If you have a payment during the time you have the vehicle (which you will), you need to pay that.  You can't be late in your contract.

If you're interested in more information, you can always call or email us at CorvetteBlog.  If you want to see GM's commercial about the promotion, view it after the jump.

May the Best Car Win.

2010 Corvette Grand Sport LS3 Dry Sump Lubrication System Video

We came across this great video featuring John Rydzewski, the Assistant Chief Engineer for Small-Block Passenger Car Engines at GM showing off the 2010 Grand Sport LS3 Dry Sump Lubrication System.  We have been fielding a lot of calls and emails from our readers about the engine, how it works and the features included.  The engines are built just down the road from us here in Wixom, Michigan and are signed and hand built by American workers.

To note though is that these engines are only available on the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport coupes with manual transmissions.  They are not available on Grand Sport Convertibles or with automatic transmissions.

Sit back, relax and enjoy...

First to Cross Mile Mark...

We can't think of a better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a fun Corvette video.  The 2009 Corvette ZR1 has a tradition of blowing away all competition on wheels. So, Motortrend decided to arrange a more interesting battle….

Corvette ZR1
(638-horsepower, reach 60 mph in 3.3 seconds)

VS.

Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet
(1.8 mach, 32,000 lbs. of thrust)

You be the judge on whether this race is fair or not. Personally, we are more interested in who will make it to the mile mark first.  Click on the video link below to view for yourself (race begins 8 minutes in)! Enjoy!

Another Hertz Corvette Crashes into 8 other Cars

Hertz Corvette CrashOnly 500 Corvette ZHZ were ever made for the Hertz car rental company. Now the fleet is down one more after a Corvette rental driver sped out of control within a Philadelphia neighborhood, hitting 8 parked cars along the street curve. The crash occurred Wednesday, April 8th just before 4:00am.

And who might this genius driver be? Well, we don’t know. That individual had already fled the scene before neighbors, police and paramedics even arrived. Injury from the crash must have occurred after blood was found on the driver-side’s airbag.

This is the third Corvette ZHZ from the Hertz fleet to be totaled within an accident. Hopefully the third, and last!  Click here to see our previous coverage of a similar event.  Also, check out the video after the jump.

"Racing Sells Cars" Says Wesoloski

Steve WesoloskiSteve Wesoloski, GM Road Race Group Manager addressed a group of car enthusiasts at the 12 Hours of Sebring’s Corvette Corral. He clued the crowd in about the future 2009 season of Corvette Racing.

He also stressed the importance of tying the technology of racing back into production, and ultimately marketing. This methodology is just what GM incorporates into their racing success.

Nevertheless, “racing sells cars”. And the more car sales made, the better the automotive industry is within our economy. Right?

Drag Racing: Nissan GT-R vs. The Corvette LS3 Rental?

Garage 419The Garage 419 team consists of a group of individuals, all of whom enjoy a good thrill drag race every so often. Who doesn’t?? The entertainment was booked when members decided to race a Nissan GT-R against any other vehicle. Bets were made even more interesting when the GT-R’s competition could only cost a maximum of $500.

Not only was this just a Corvette, but it was also tricked up with a bargain $300 nitrous system!

Dave Ressler's Newest Addition

Dave ResslerIf you’re a devout fan of Barrett-Jackson, then you ought to be familiar with a Mr. Dave Ressler.

Even if you didn’t watch this year’s televised annual classic car auction held in Scottsdale, Arizonia, you still may recognize the name, which is often associated with his popular purchase: a MILLION dollar 2009 ZR1 Corvette!

Dave Ressler, a Chevrolet dealer and Corvette enthusiast, continues to purchase new and auctioned off Corvettes to add to his growing collection. The Ressler family collection contains now up to 25 Corvettes of all varieties. Just recently, another was added to the count…

When the ZR1 entered center stage at the auction, the audience rose to gawk at this fine-looking vehicle. Jay Leno was present to announce all the car’s special features: a supercharged 6.2L V-8 engine, 620 horsepower, durable yet weight resistant carbon fiber hood and rooftop, and the exact same brakes as the Enzo Ferrari. This ZR1 Corvette is truly a collector’s item, as it is the only one painted a LeMans blue with a VIN number of #0001. All proceeds raised by this vehicle were given to benefit the United Way charitable fund. When the bidding began, Dave Ressler stood with all intentions of not going home without it. As the bidding climaxed out at $900,000, Ressler raised his own bid to $1,000,000 to secure his purchase. Quite an asset to add to the family collection!!

Take a look at this video to watch the car bidding take place.

Win Criss Angel's Corvette or $25,000

I don't know about you, but Criss Angel is one of my favorite magicians to watch.  While I've not had the joy of seeing his show in Las Vegas, his TV show speaks volumes as to his ability.  Some people aren't into his magic or magic in general, but either way, here's an opportunity to win a new C6.

This guy and girl in a Corolla follow a drunk driver in a Velocity Yellow C6 Corvette from a nightclub in Petaluma, CA.  He's clearly over the limit as he almost hits 2 parked cars and swerves around the lanes multiple times.  So why are they on a mission?  Well watch until the end and find out this videographer's motivation.

Video of the Week: Danica Patrick drives a 2007 Z06

This week's video is a short, but sweet, revving of the new 2008 Chevrolet Corvette's optional dual-mode exhaust.  The free flow RPO code is: NPP.  The exhaust gives you 6 additional horsepower and has an extremely aggressive exhaust sound, as you'll soon see.  The option is available on all Coupes and Convertibles, but is not standard.

The cost for the NPP option is:  $1,195 Retail or $991.85 at Invoice.

Video of the Week: Corvette Cruising at Red Rock Canyon

This week's video installment is what looks to be either a 2006 or 2007 C6 Corvette convertible in Velocity Yellow cruising around Red Rock Canyon in Las Vegas, Nevada.  There's some great shots and music with this clip, so sit back and enjoy a trip to Vegas (without the heat) in a Corvette.

Video of the Week: Winter and the Corvette

Continuing with our video series, here's a fun one - even in the midst of summer.  Check out this video of a yellow Corvette Z06 navigating the ice (with the help of some friends).  As easy as it is to get it out of the garage, getting it in proves more of a challenge for our Canadian friends, eh?  Have we mentioned how glad we are that it's summer?

Video of the Week: 2006 Corvette Z06 Flat Out

We love videos at CorvetteBlog.  If you can't own a Corvette, they are the closest thing you can get to it.  So in that spirit, we debut a new weekly post we call the  Video of the Week.

To start it all off, we've chosen a short, yet fun video of a 2006 Corvette Z06 going from 0-200 mph on the speedometer.  This is crazy!  Clearly maxing out a TrailBlazer is a LOT different from a Corvette Z06, so this is probably the closest I'm getting to doing this, although Detroit freeways would be great to try it out on!

If you have a video you like, let us know about it in the comments section and we might pick them up next week as our series "Video of the Week" continues.

Michigan Corvette Driver Arrested for Driving at 146MPH

It was another case of using Stop Sticks repeatedly to make those Corvette run-flat tires fail!

VetteTube provides the footage of a Detroit newscast reporting a high speed chase leading to an arrest.  146mph in a 70mph zone is not recommended for anyone's health.

Corvette Z06: Best Value Between Performance and Cost:

Motor Trend currently is showing a video of Max Angelelli of Sun Trust Racing driving and commenting on Corvette Z06

Describing the Z06 as "a kind of monster," he says the great positive is that it has "a lot of power."  Balancing that, however, he says "you cannot use it ... all the time."

In summary: "This is a great balance between power, performance, and price; probably the best.  Z06 has probably the best value between performance and cost."

Corvettes Particpate in Joy Ride Rally

Corvettes are often vehicle of choice for Cannonball Run type rallies across the country.  The Joy Ride Rally recently chronicled by SoCalSpeedZone included at least one heavily accessorized C5 and one C6 Z06.

Part of the beauty of the experience is the ability to have a lot of fun while helping raise significant funds for charity.  For example, $1000 of the entry fee for those driving in the Joy Ride Rally was designated for the Salvation Army's Hurricane Katrina Relief Project.  This adds up to a pretty nice sum!

Free Corvette LS2 6 Liter Engine Screensaver

We all love the fabulous 6.0L LS2 Corvette engine and what it does for the C6.  Now we can watch one being graphically assembled over and over again on our computer desktop.

Check out this website: Small Block Engine Screensaver.

The creator of the screensaver comments: These animations were developed from the math models created by the talented designers and engineers. The three minute long animation consists of 5400 individually rendered frames. The frames were rendered at 640 x 480 resolution, and each frame took approximately three minutes to render.  Thus: a total of 270 hours or eleven days were spent.

Flip Flops and Corvette Not a Good MIx!

And in other news ... The use of shoes when driving a Corvette is being recommended by a Corvette enthusiast who accidentally rammed a convenience store when his flip-flops got caught in the accelerator pedal.

Robert Pena introduced his Corvette to the window of the C & F Food Store in Clifton, Colorado about a week ago, and was cited for a driving infraction.

Nashville Police Have Difficulty Spiking Corvette RunFlats

Nashville, Tennessee Police recently had difficulty apprehending a stolen red C6 Corvette because of its EMT. Extended Mobility Tires, affectionately called “run-flats,” are standard on every C6 Corvette. The Goodyear Tire website explains the technology.

Apparently the tires on the runaway Corvette were spiked three or four times to no avail. Eventually the DWI candidate rammed a Police Impala, but was still not captured without aid of a police dog.

Dodge Viper vs Ford GT vs Corvette Z06

This "American Exotics Video Comparison Test" from Edmunds (in late 2005) is long on summary and a little short on heart pounding action (like we get from Top Gear), but it certainly presents an excellent nose to nose comparo of Corvette Z06 against the Ford GT and Dodge Viper.

Edmunds declares that the Corvette is the "easiest to drive in every day conditions," is just as fast on the racetrack, and is certainly the least expensive.  The conclusion: Z06 is best for "world class exotic car performance."  But then, as a reader of Corvette Blog, you knew that!

Ron Fellows Interviewed About His Corvettes

Corvette was featured in several short videos produced by Motor Trend MultiMedia in conjunction with this year's Chicago Auto Show.

Ron Fellows talks about his award winning Corvette C6.R racecar and his "first off the line" personal 2007 Ron Fellows Edition Corvette Z06 on camera.  He admits he doesn't use a Corvette for transporting his family, though.  Space requirements place him happily in a Cadillac Escalade.

Stand by for showroom pictures at this website when our dealership's first Ron Fellows Edition Corvette Z06 arrives!

It Must Be Corvette Love

Greg and Susan Wageman used to cruise down our nation’s two-lane highways, including Route 66, in his blue Corvette. Greg did the driving; Susan did the navigating.

Greg had always meant to teach his wife how to drive a stick-shift. But he didn’t get the chance as he died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism at age 48.

The first few days were a blur for Susan Wageman, 47. As weeks stretched out, she drew up a list to bring some sense of order to a life so painfully disrupted. On it: find someone to help her learn to drive a manual transmission. She wanted to keep alive some of her fondest memories of Greg, the man with whom she had fallen in love nearly thirty years earlier. Susan comments, “I know that it will be different on my own, but I don’t want to give up road trips in the Corvette.”  We wish Susan our best.

CorvetteBlog's OnStar Video Series - Part 4

The fourth and final installment of our OnStar Video Series is most certainly my favorite.  It's called "OnStar Command Center" and takes a look at OnStar's main center of operation in Detroit, Michigan.  Chet Huber, President of OnStar, walks us through the various aspects of the OnStar Command Center.

Staff at CorvetteBlog have gone to see the Command Center and let me be the first to tell you, this is exactly what it is like.  Very impressive and "NASA-like."  It really gave us a great appreciation for all that they are doing to monitor, assist and protect drivers.  The 911 information in the video is incredibly interesting and unique.

Remember, all Corvette owners that have OnStar as an option have their first year of OnStar service paid for complimentary.

CorvetteBlog's OnStar Video Series - Part 3

The third installment of our CorvetteBlog OnStar Video Series features OnStar's "Turn by Turn Navigation".  This service is great for any Corvette customer - with or without OnStar.  Just tell the Advisor where you want to go and bingo, the directions are sent straight to the vehicle.

You receive both audio and visual prompts (through the speaker system and Driver Information Center, respectively).  Remember, all Corvette owners that have OnStar as an option have their first year of OnStar service paid for complimentary.  You do get one route free, so try it out and if you want to add it to your service, it's just a few bucks more a month as part of the Directions and Connections plan.

Video: Corvette Plays with Others in Chevy SS Lineup

Our friends at camaroZ28.com have been showing a video of a 2007 Corvette Coupe playing with a series of other 2007 Chevy SS models.

Cobalt SS Turbocharged Coupe, Cobalt SS Sedan, Malibu SS Sedan, Malibu Maxx SS, and TrailBlazer SS all do some fancy moves to impress the one most fast and fleet: the 400 hp Corvette.

CorvetteBlog's OnStar Video Series - Part 2

Our second installment of our OnStar Video Series features the video "A Day in the Life."  This video shows the main reporting screen for OnStar services on a typical day.  It shows the entire US and where people are using OnStar, and for what purpose.

This video doesn't have sound, it's more of a watch the map fill up kind of piece, but still interesting to see the statistics behind OnStar and the actual areas of activity throughout the day.

Remember, the first year of service for Corvette customers equipped with OnStar is free!

CorvetteBlog's OnStar Video Series - Part 1

I've been thinking lately about how great OnStar is, and how so many recent Corvette owners have OnStar equipped vehicles.  Not everyone realizes all the components of those three buttons on your rear view mirror.  I'm not trying to sell you the service, just point out its high points that I believe Corvette owners would enjoy.

Over the next couple of days we'll be offering videos from OnStar about select parts of their service.  While yes, it isn't COMPLETELY Corvette related, it's still a great service to consider if you're looking to buy, or if you've not thought about it before and have it in your Corvette now.  Also, your first year of service is free!

The video series was produced in 2006, so it doesn't reference 2007 models, but 2007 Corvettes enjoy all of these same benefits.

"Ain't We Got Love!" Super Bowl Commercial

This is for all of you who enjoyed the Chevrolet commercial on the Super Bowl entitled "Ain't we Got Love!"  We had blogged back on February 5 about the Corvettes in the video, but you wanted to know more!

The fine folks at Campbell-Ewald (producers of the commercial) have been kind enough to give Corvette Blog readers the behind the scenes look at the commercial's participants.

Understand first of all that sometimes we think we know what we're seeing but sometimes it's something else.  I really thought some of the posers were celebrities.  Regardless, the official list of participants, vehicles they are seen with, songs, authors, and lyrics are as follows:

YouTube Loves Chevy Corvette

No doubt because of the remarkable performance capabilities of Corvette, especially coupled with the relative low cost, owners and reviewers are posting more and more video about Corvette on line.

For example, Corvette Blogger has begun a collection on YouTube for our entertainment.  Among videos currently posted there are segments from the First Gear show on Z06 and even a cutesy Chevy commercial on vehicles with 30 mpg or better, including a clip on a two door Chevy that gets only 27 mpg!  You can even subscribe to receive additional videos in the series.

If you discover other videos of interest, let us know, and we'll get the word out about them.

Corvette Stars in Super Bowl LXI

In an advertisement Chevy called "Ain't We Got Love" and I would have called "We're Not the Jet Set," three Corvettes were included in a variety show of musical entertainment.

Pictured in order within a longer montage of Chevrolet vehicles were a red C2 convertible, a C6.R, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. singing in a C6 convertible.  I particularly enjoyed the closing song by Tammy Wynette and George Jones.

See the ad again at www.chevrolet.com.  Click on the picture of an HHR with the words "Big Game.  Big Ads."

Top Gear Z06 Video Keeps Drawing Me Back

Ever find yourself drawn back to an amazing video creation?  Top Gear's superb review of the 2006 Corvette "Zed-Oh-Six" keeps coming to mind.

First , they show us the phenomenal capability of driving from "naught to 175mph" in one gear (5th)!  Then, how the Z06 out-accelerates a torched trail of petrol!
