The hottest topic on CorvetteBlog right now is the 2010 Corvette, and rightfully so.  The specific interest has been in the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.  We have all the details you need about the hottest addition to the Corvette family.

Let's go over some of what we know.  First of all, the Grand Sport will be available in both coupe and convertible, in every trim level (1LT, 2LT, 3LT, and 4LT). The most defining aspect of the Grand Sport has to be it's aggressive look and wider track than the current C6.  It will have a unique fender design and the Grand Sport badge will appear in the cove.  There will be a front splitter and tall rear spoiler.

The Grand Sport offers a Heritage package with fender hash mark stripes (4 stripe colors) and special two-tone seats with "Grand Sport" embroidery as an available option.  Every exterior and interior color will be available to order. 

Technically speaking, the Grand Sport will have functional brake ducts and additional cooling.  It has larger 6-piston 14" front and 4-piston 13.4" rear brakes, both with silver painted calipers.  The manual Coupe version will have a Z52 dry sump package with a rear battery.

Now a little bit about the wheels and tires.  There will be three Grand Sport specific wheels:  Silver, Competition Gray and Chrome.  It will come with the wider sized Goodyear F1 supercar tires (275/35-18x9.5 and 325/30-19x12)

There are many benefits to the 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.  First, there is a greater lateral acceleration.  The standard is .92 g, the previous Z51 offered .98 g and the Grand Sport comes in at 1.0 g.  It gains 0.2 seconds in the 0-60 test versus standard Corvettes  (4.0 vs 4.2).  All of this and even 26 mpg highway rating vs 24 mpg for Z06.

Well, wouldn't you know that GM has announced their annual "Memorial Day Sale" just 2 days before the actual Memorial Day weekend begins.  The sale this year really doesn't seem to have the 'bang for the buck' as sales in years past.  Perhaps that's because GM is offering 0% financing on many models right now, or perhaps that's because they know a bankrupcy is on the horizon and this is a last ditched effort for quick sales before they announce it.  Either way, the sale this year only improves the deals on 3 models:  the Cobalt, the Impala and the Silverado.  Corvette is left out in the dark.

So let's not waste time talking about the other models when we really only care about Corvettes here on CorvetteBlog.  We thought we take a quick minute to again summarize the current offers that are available:

On 2009 Corvettes:

• Some of you may be eligible for $500 off with the GM Spring Car Care discount.  There was a mailer that you may have gotten that had the discount as part of it.  If you don't know if you qualify or not, your local dealer can look up your name and address and see if you qualify for the $500 off.  Expires 6/30/09.
   
• Some dealers may be using Corvette Bonus Certificates.  This is a program that gives dealers the ability to stack up to 6 $500 certificates on a Corvette sale.  The number of certificates a dealer has is based on a number of factors including current inventory and total Corvette availability.  Expires on 6/1/09.

On remaining 2008 Corvettes:

Purchasing and owning a Corvette ZR1 gives you the automatic privilege of taking your gorgeous ride out for high-speed cruises often so all can view you in your prize vehicle.

One Texan man did just that, though the cruise did not end in his favor. Instead, the accident resorted him to auctioning off his precious ZR1 on eBay. Barrett Jackson visited us all again for another year during the middle of January 2009. As you may recall last year at Barrett Jackson, the big hype was placed on the $1,000,000 auction sale of a brand new 2009 ZR1 Corvette.

This year’s Scottsdale automobile auction brought about an older array of Corvette sales. Tuesday’s bidding began with the auctioning off the hot 1990 Corvette ZR-1, equipped with an active suspension. This vehicle was a crucial tool that GM engineers utilized to demonstrate hydraulic suspension systems. Only fifteen of the 1990 ZR-1’s were ever built, and the one that was auctioned off is one of two that is still in existence. “It’s a very important car to us,” claims retired GM engineer, Bob Johnson, who worked on the active-suspension project. “It’s a very, very sophisticated car.” The ZR-1 was auctioned off for $150,000.

Then, there was the 1989 DR-1, a convertible ZR-1 prototype, which dates back to the C4 Corvette era. This ‘Vette was the top seller out of the Corvette clan, and was auctioned off for $286,000. The 1989 ZR-1 Coupe press car, brought in a pretty penny too, selling for $198,000. Rick Hendrick was in attendance at the auction and paid up on yet another 1989 ZR-1 Coupe for $176,000.

The ZR-1s, however, were not the only type of Corvettes at the auction. Check out the complete list after the jump.

Though no Corvettes raised close to one million at this year’s Barrett Jackson, the above auctioned off vehicles prove that the Corvette heritage collection still has GOT IT!

The 1992 Marocco II Corvette may be the Corvette no one has ever heard of.  Yesterday, AutoBlog reported that it is for sale.

I checked out my personal copies of some of the best books written on Corvette: Corvette: Fifty Years, Corvette Illustrated Encyclopedia, and Corvette: America's Star-Spangled Sports Car, The Complete History.  None of them mention this variant.

A rare 1953 Corvette will be sold tomorrow at an auction in Lapeer, Michigan.  The "no reserve" auction is being handled by RM Auctions on the grounds of the home of John McMullen, longtime successful Pontiac dealer.

McMullen is drastically trimming his world class collection of some 140 cars to less than a dozen of the world's best automobiles.  The Corvette joins two early Thunderbirds, a 1931 Duesenberg Model J, a 1934 Packard Twelve Convertible Victoria (shown), and many others.

The 9AM auction is open to the public in exchange for the purchase price of the $80 catalogue (which admits two).

One of only 399 being produced, a Ron Fellows ALMS GT1 Championship Corvette Z06 is expected to reach Al Yousuf Motors showroom in the United Arab Emirates in June.

Having written about the Ron Fellows Edition Corvette previously at Corvette Blog several times, the news is that one of these fabulous Z06's is now bound for the Middle East. 

Although the Dubai City Guide claimed that Dubai City is now the only city outside of North America to get its hands on the very limited signature series Ron Fellows Corvette Z06, the original announcement from GM was that a total of sixty-six were to be exported (not counting Canada).  Perhaps the distinction is that, while not exclusive, they are first.

Our parent dealership has just taken delivery of our Arctic White Ron Fellows Corvette Z06. And what a beautiful car this autographed #190 is (out of 399 total being built)!

It arrived in the place of honor behind the cab on the car carrier, safest there from bugs and flying debris. The vehicle had the typical clear stretchwrap on it, and it came with a trunk full of decals, the front splitter, the wheel hubs, etc.

Careful attention was given to prepare it for showroom display behind the stanchions, not too far away from our gorgeous Black and Victory Red Z06’s.

Of course, every Ron Fellows Z06 comes with metric gauging, so some feel that kilometers per hour and miles per liter are there to honor the Canadian roots of racing driver Ron Fellows. I haven’t checked, but the navigational radio probably calls out all the Tim Hortons restaurants across North America, eh?

Corvettes are everywhere at Barrett-Jackson in Palm Beach, Florida this week.  By my count, there are eighty-four classic Corvettes going to auction!

Twenty five C1 Vettes are available, including two of the one hundred Sportsman Red Corvettes built in 1954.  (Lot 709 is pictured.)  There are thirty two C2 Vettes, including a number from 1963.  Twenty three C3, five C4, and three C5 Corvettes round out the offerings.

The bidding begins this Thursday.  Be there, or follow the forty hours of live coverage on the Speed Channel.

This beautiful Can Am White 1969 Corvette Convertible with Saddle Interior has a 427/560hp L-88 and 4-speed.

This Shark was sold new in Kansas City and titled in a the name of a construction company.  Parts were gathered for about three years prior to the restoration.  A prize winner and a really smooth handler, the car brought only disappointment to its owner at the end of February for not selling.  Top auction offer was barely more than $200,000.
