The lap count down qualification for ModSpace American Le Mans Series Monterey was held this past weekend, and Corvette Racing came in with a vengeance, especially Gavin.
Within the last (and quickest) lap, driver Gavin took the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R from sixth to second on the GT grid. “I knew that the car had it in it. I just needed to put a lap together without any traffic or sand on the track,” said Gavin. “It all seemed to come together on that last lap."
Corvette Racing’s fastest laps:
- Oliver Gavin (ninth lap): 1:23.124 at 96.925 mph
- Olivier Beretta (sixth lap): 1:23.566 at 96.412 mph
The lap winner, however, went to BMW M3 GT driver Joey Hand who clocked in 1:22.226 at 97.984 mph.
"It’s super close with everyone except Hand’s BMW, and we’re in with a fighting chance," Gavin added. "Six hours at Laguna Seca is a long race, and I know that Corvette Racing will make the right calls and we’ll be battling to keep ourselves in the championship."
