Mike Tells His Story
Mike Yager knows how to recount an experience. Corvette Funfest enthusiasts who purchased the Ultimate Package this year were provided with a special visit to the MY Garage Museum (right on the premises of Mid-America Motorworks), hosted by Mike himself.
Mike shared some of the backstory on his acquisition of a number of his Corvettes, including the "barn find" that is pictured on the front of his book, Mike Yager's Corvette Bible.
This vehicle had been housed in a barn about 30 miles from Effingham for decades! When Mike arrived, he discovered that there was a tree that had grown across the door, and that all means of access into the building had been nailed shut. After considerable effort, the barn's owner opened the door for Mike to discover an extremely poorly kept 1957 Corvette (sitting on a tubular steel trailer) with no workable anything!
Rather than spend way too much money on a restoration, Mike decided to preserve the "find" as an example of aging vehicles that are sure to still be out there in other barns across the country. After seeing this one, though, I'm not sure too many of us are going to be motivated to keep looking.
I'm not sure if Mike ever finished that cookie in his hand, he was so caught up with telling us how it came to be, including finding an opposum skeleton in the passenger side floorboards.
