Corvette racecar driver Danny Kellermeyer captured the 2013 Touring 1 Championship Sept. 29 at Waterford Hills Race Track (WHRRI) in Michigan.
Danny competed in the 24-race season and earned all podium finishes. His final scorecard shows 18 first-, 4 second- and 2 third-place finishes.
“The championship title was hard fought against other Corvettes as well as BMWs, Porsches and Camaros. A good field of competitive racecars and drivers were all challenging for the top honors,” says Kellermeyer.
“My Matick Chevrolet-Corvette Central-DJ Racing Corvette racecar ran flawlessly the whole season,” he says. “We completed every race we entered, not only in this WHRRI series, but in the SCCA Nationals. It was just one of those years that luck was with us. We had no breakdowns, crashes, or driver errors. That is good luck.”
"We're extremely proud of Danny's accomplishments again this season. He's an awesome driver and a really classy guy. He goes out of his way to make sure fans enjoy the races, from his maneuvers on the track to letting kids sit in his racecars. He knows how to entertain the fans," adds Matick Chevrolet Dealer Karl Zimmermann, who sponsors Danny's #37 racecars.
Kellermeyer also recaptured the T1 track record with an amazing 1:12.77 lap time the same weekend. “The track was fast, the air was good and my Corvette was prepped for a fast lap. Just one of those races when it all came together,” he says.
There is still a chance to see the Matick Chevy-sponsored DJ Racing Corvette team in action this fall. Next up is the Halloween Open Track Party Oct. 18-20 at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, MI. It’s an open track event during the day with horse carriage rides, a pig roast and Haunted Corner Stations after hours.
Track slots are still open for either or both days. Sign up at the Gingerman Raceway website.
